Knew you miss 🍪 goal. 😂 Does your camera not have zoom for the far side of the pitch?
@@halifax1911 no, I tell you what happened, Cooke kicked the ball and I thought it was going into the stand, but it went into the net instead obviously, I don’t have my camera on every minute of the match, best to watch it with my own eyes, so I only switch it on when either A. There’s a potential goal coming, (I.e. free kick, corner, players in goalmouth, etc.) or B. Just simply get it out every five to ten minutes and film a random 30 seconds of the match, I didn’t think Cooke’s chance was going to be that good so didn’t have the camera on, (I’m an idiot 😂), I did actually try and look for it on one of our social media pages so people could see it and I’d credit whoever got it on tape but I couldn’t find it anywhere and wanted to put the video up before Sunday, hopefully I’ll film a better goal in the near future, I hate it when there’s a goal and I didn’t film it.

I think success on the pitch would bring the crowds. Ive been following Bromley for years and for most of that time the crowds were around the same size as Halifax as locals were more tempted by the nearer higher division teams (Charlton/Milwall/Crystal Palace) as well as many Premier league clubs within commuting distance. As they gradually started improving on the pitch crowds started increasing going up a few hundred each season to 2,500 last season in the National League and this season in the football league 3,500.
@@declanodonohoe9589 Halifax won an FA Trophy in 2023 and been in the playoffs three times so far within the 2020s, and the crowds have diminished instead of getting larger, to get more success (I.e. promotion, more financially stable), Halifax needs supporters, it needs people who care about the club and recognise it as a valuable asset to the town (same with the rugby), even in Bankfield Museum, a museum in Halifax for the town’s history, they have more for the speedway team which no longer exists, than the football club, Halifax may have been successful in speedway and more successful in rugby and that should be acknowledged, but so should the football, so we’re gonna need to get bigger crowds to progress and achieve more success on and off the pitch, they’re now saying The Shay might be bought by Huddersfield Giants’ owner which I don’t know what to think yet, but fingers crossed it’s a step in the right direction, he might make some decisions which changes the clubs for the better.
Has the Halifax Building Society ever sponsored The Shaymen?
@@johnsutcliffe888 I could be wrong, but I don’t think they’re allowed to sponsor us or any other club because they are a u.k. wide bank they couldn’t favour just one club and it might put customers off I know it sounds weird but that’s the rumour, they have put some money onto the club though, they invested in The Skircoat Stand, (West Stand), which has HBS written in The Stand.

Similar with my team Walsall. Most people in Walsall support Wolves, Villa, West Brom and Birmingham City all within 10 miles of Bescot. Its so frustrating that locals cant share the passion for there local team like we do. Having said that we have new owners now who have changed the mentality at the club focused on attracting kids with low prices and family/school days. That newfound optimism plus success on the pitch has meant our gates have gone up from 4,000 to 6,000 that may not sound much to some but its a big step in the right direction. Alty fan in peace. I imagine that the low crowds are partially due to the town, which is not big, also having a professional rugby league side. Altrincham have always traditionally suffered for crowds due to the big clubs down the road, which locals can and do watch. Yet we’ve done well in the local community especially to appeal to youngsters, who have been priced out of those clubs by their success.
@@Damaz22There are smaller towns with bigger crowds than us and rugby league crowds aren’t what they use to be, I admire Alty for getting the crowds they get, literally sandwiched between the two Manchester clubs and all the big sides in that area, I think you do better than you think to be honest.
@@styepen602didn’t used to be like this, hard work off the pitch including building a fan zone to attract the casual day tripper fan
@ very interesting that, we should take tips from Alty really to build up our own fan zones.
Firstly if you look at Bradford it’s a huge city 550,000 and of course there are lots of Man Utd/Liverpool/Arsenal/Leeds fans who live there but what Bradford city have done for a long time is the cheap season ticket deals across the board for adults/kids etc. This has enabled them to catch the younger fans early obviously many will lose interest or turn to the premier league clubs never less even if only 20% stay with them it gives them long term growth also as you mentioned there had some excellent cup success(cup final)which also wet the whistle for impressnable youngsters and there also have Bradford city in the community which goes into the schools/summer camps etc again some of these youngsters you’ll convert for life. For a club to get 17/18000 for mediocre league 2 football shows there are doing something right.I think for Halifax they need to copy bradfords model with the insanely cheap season tickets in the early days but it takes years to build up a regular support base.
@tescomealdeal4358 I agree with you that Bradford have a great model, but if we take that risk and don’t get the fans, in a town with a much smaller population, it could cost us a lot.

Hi. Shrewsbury Town fan here. I remember playing the old Halifax. Pricing is not good. With a membership at Shrewsbury, I pay £22 a game and we're in the 3rd tier. Kids under 7 are free and kids 7-13 years old get in with an adult for £1. That's how you get fans through the gates and how you get young fans following the club. My kids are Town fans for life already. Wish you and Halifax all the best. It'd be nice if you got more support and back into the league.
@@RojiVerdeVgn thanks mate and would love to play Shrewsbury Town in the league one day, good luck yourselves!!!
Thanks. One other thing. I remember visiting the Shay in the 2003-04 season (Shrewsbury's first and only season in what was then the Conference). It was a 0-0 draw from memory. Your stadium looks redeveloped now. Would I be right in saying that when I visited the away end behind the goal was quite a large, steep, open, standing terrace?
@ we have extended the ground, East Stand is great now, but only South Stand and East Stand with fans in, North Stand never has anyone in, unless the opposition brings a lot of supporters same with The West Stand, Most Oppositions (with 100+ supporters or less) just go in the far end of The East Stand.

considering that Halifax is fifth level & a small market team -- that would probably explain the small crowds........ 🙄
@@csnide6702 We’re not expecting anything massive, but when you take into account that teams like Altrincham are also based in market towns and play in the fifth tier to bigger crowds then you start to wonder why you can’t replicate that yourself, plus unlike Altrincham or Solihull, Woking etc., we’re one of the fourteen teams in The National League whose played in The EFL and for 75 years too.
@@styepen602 I imagine you lost some supporters when the original club folded . I think Darlington and Scarborough did when they folded . Although both these clubs as fan owned deserve huge credit for battling way up through the Divisions and up now against some much better financed clubs
@@Sportspenguin77 no I don’t think so, those who were there in 2008 when we folded didn’t stop, at least I don’t know anyone who ever did.
@@styepen602 Fair do . I think it helped that you didn't have to start at Step 6 like Scarborough did so started in NPL 1. Step 3
As a York fan I can sympathise . I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding from many though about the funding required to run teams at this level and indeed the league below ie National League North. At Halifax Town level you still have to travel up and down the country, still pay professional players and staff whilst receiving a fraction of the TV money and other funding available to teams higher up and with the Premier League gate money is dwarfed by other commercial factors that is not the case when you go down to Halifax level. So personally I feel criticism for on the gate prices is a tad unfair. The club has an obligation to its season ticket holders and has to cover its costs . You could reduce prices but then you may not make up the costs in merchandise and food sales .
@@Sportspenguin77 yeah, I mean most people want to pay £22 every week for football that is our level, but the club does need money too, we’re not the best financially stable club, but we’ve always tried to keep going, more supporters are needed though, hence why I made this video.
@styepen602 Of course but it is a hard balance to get right. The jump up from Step 3 to 2 is one of the most difficult and we have seen well supported teams like FC United not been able to compete I think once you get to that level even just having a decent fan base is not enough . There are some well backed clubs at that level Likewise we see a lot of teams who get promoted to Step one National League struggle when they are promoted including ourselves until this season. Personally I feel your board and teams like Gateshead deserve a lot of praise for putting a side together that challenges in this league despite the lack of support season in season as they do at the moment and that is the message that should be portrayed and if people don't get behind that then they never really will.
@@Sportspenguin77 we do try our best behind the scenes, but I think more has to be done supporters wise, someone to play for and just us who go every week but the whole Town of Halifax.
@@styepen602 but I think that is hard for you especially when you have seemingly more glamorous clubs nearby . At York we have Leeds not too far and nothing really in other direction until Middlesbrough or Hull . For us after years of having no money all of a sudden we seem to have ambitious owners who are investing in the team . FFP does not seem to apply at this level so I will say again your board and football management deserves all the credit for competing at this level given the depth of competition in the National League . I will include teams like Alty, Gateshead and Curzon in the League below in this as well who all seem to do well year in year out but don't really attract a big support .
@@Sportspenguin77 Alty get more fans than us actually, Gateshead are probably the best comparison to us giving how many Newcastle Fans, Sunderland Fans and Middlesbrough Fans are in the area, Hartlepool obviously get quite a few supporters for the fifth tier too, so I can see them falling behind, I feel for them, could be another EFL Northwest Side and that would be great if you’re a neutral.
Don’t forget that Burnley is also fairly close to Halifax as well, quite a few people from the hebden bridge and Sowerby bridge areas are Burnley supporters as well as your Leeds, Huddersfield’s etc
@@AaronPhelan-g8b yeah I know a few people who go watch Burnley, especially this season as they are pushing for another promotion to the premier league.
It’s down to who your dad or grandad follow. Football clubs in the main get handed down to the next generation. It takes decades to build a fan base that previously didn’t exist. My club Millwall are lucky to have a fair sized hard core, but even we struggle to get above 14/15 thousand for an average home game. Having said that ,,, a good cup run or promotion always helps. 👍👍👍
@@leewelch1247 it can help, but everyone chooses who to follow, I’ve known families where everyone has a different club they support and others where they all follow the same club, in the end it’s all down to choice and whether you can afford to go every week.

@@MarkSibthorpe-yg8zu it’s a long story, I currently work in Bradford and had some time off one afternoon, some of these people are friends of mine who are football fans, others I just asked that afternoon, the video was meant to ask people who were neutrals not necessarily people from Halifax and to some degree it was meant to be a bit of joke on most people’s reaction to seeing football that isn’t top tier sport (of course most people in Bradford aren’t gonna care about seeing Halifax Town 😂), although they all gave brilliant answers to my questions, I was planning to go to Leeds or some other towns/cities too, but I ended up only doing Bradford, plus at some point this month/next month I’ve got a video idea that involves The Town of Halifax coming up, so that will have more of a local feel to it, I’ve actually got a few ideas at the moment, but I can’t really say how many of them will be done this season, or at all, hope that clears it up.

Ticket prices is your problem, simple as that. I go to watch Boston and the average attendance is 100 higher despite the team being useless and no team bringing 2000 fans for a game to boost up the number. Make the prices right and there does become more interest. £22 at non league level is outrageous. We can pay £16 to stand if we pay in advance. It's not just the adult prices either. We charge £5 for under 16s who buy before match day and there's always notable groups of kids with no adults. They do actually behave and are the future of the club. Halifax charge them a tenner. How many 15 year olds can afford that themselves? The pricing is currently a big mistake which your club needs to address.
@@ryanking7787 as I keep saying that seems to be one of the big reasons, Boston have a decent ground at that moment and I thought your attendance was good to say you’ve been down in the 6th tier long enough, when I went earlier this season.
@@ryanking7787 It's not as simple as that though. If your attendance is only 100 higher in a League where you play some much better away followings than the National North then perhaps the club should have charged a bit more in order to put a more competitive team out on the pitch. The bigger picture is that this policy means you get fans for the future and unlike Halifax you don't have to worry about having bigger clubs on your doorstep but ultimately you can charge nothing but still won't get enough people in to buy drinks, merchandise etc to cover costs and outgoings at this level
Before automatic relegation from the 4th Division in 1987, there were a number of clubs circling the drain for years, who were protected by the re-election system. Looking at the National League table, Rochdale, Hartlepool and Halifax were in that category. While all of them had excursions outside the bottom tier, every year was a scrap to finish outside the bottom spots rather than a promotion push onto a consistent second or third tier spot. Clubs can fall on hard times and get relegated, like Oldham, Luton, Notts Co, Orient and maybe Swindon this season, but their structure and gate money suggests it will be a brief trip outside the league.
@@borderlands6606 and unlike Rochdale and Hartlepool who were in League 1, 10-15 years ago, we’ve been a non league club for 23 years this year, actually being liquidated in 2008, so I guess length of time might have something to do with too
@@styepen602 Since the 4th Division era beginning in 1958, only 5 clubs failed to gain re-election. Hartlepool had to apply 11 times, Halifax, Rochdale and York City were equal third on 6 re-elections. Crewe separated them on 7. That suggests those clubs had compromised a football meritocracy, and all with the exception of Crewe now play "non-league" football. It's clearly the case that the difference between the have's and have-not's increased since Premier League money attracted billionaires into the game. On the other hand there are clubs who benefitted from the closed league system for as long as most people have lived, and finally succumbed to the inevitable. We can agree that getting out the 5th tier is as hard as it's ever been since 1987, with half the National League comprised of former league clubs, and some of the others being backed by wealthy interests.

@@JosephSmith-zj9uk it’s certainly one of the big factors, as to why we don’t get many at the gates, just not sure if lowering the prices will get hundreds more though, I think there’s many reasons why we don’t get bigger crowds, £28 to watch second tier football is a bargain though (even if the football’s not the best at the moment).
@@styepen602I'm a Huddersfield town fan and I can remember getting my season ticket in 2018 for our first year in the premier League for £249 which worked out at about £13:50 a game. I didn't realise Halifax was so expensive these days as I haven't been to watch them in years.
@@kayeb222 I’ve always appreciated that (at least until a few years ago), Huddersfield and Bradford’s ticket prices were better for higher leagues than ours were for non league.
Hi Bud , since the last time a text you We drew at Barnet , a good performance (Their manager acknowledged that ) and today 0-0 at Altrincham for me an Acceptable performance we have a Chance of the play offs , and I personally Think Chris is as good a manager as there Is in the vanarama league , we are hard To beat and not far off being a top team .
@@peterdyson9590 thanks again bud, Yeah a good draw today and a good manager too, let’s hope for the best!!!
All the West Yorkshire clubs were fast-tracked into the football league for fear those towns and cities might be forever lost to rugby league. Whereas Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield have all had their times in the Sun, Halifax never have. A decent National League side may be their level. Crowds were poor even in the postwar boom years.
@@normanby100 hmmm, we did have 75 years in The EFL although most of that was lingering in the bottom tier, I’m not sure I can agree were a national league club at best, historically speaking, although most of our best moments in history have been as a non league side.
Unfortunately mate blame your own football club it's the same at evey club when you charge silly money to get in things won't change. Oldham for a family of 4 is about £60 -£70 for 90 minutes of in truth is awful why would anyone apart from the loyal fans attend. Interestingly last season for 1 game it was £1 to get in and our ground was full including the away end all in all we made the same money when including food and drink as 5 -6k attending. Clubs are not fan friendly. Empty seats are pointless
@@Jamesoafc85 I know what you’re saying, we have had some games where there’s been a special offer, cutting down the ticket price by a few quid, obviously that’s not gonna be good enough for the long term, and would be much better if people only paid so much every week, but as you said at the moment that seems to be every club in the country, but I look at clubs like Oldham and I know you were leagues higher than us for years, but I see a far bigger loyal local following for them and a town getting behind its club no matter what, (correct me if I’m wrong), I don’t feel like The Town of Halifax gets behind its club enough, it’s a town and a team big enough to get at least 2,000+ fans at the gate no matter the cost, and it’s a football club with potential to go further so its the little things that I’d like to see improve.
Sheffield united fan here my home place team we have the other club and sheffield fc, such a shame fc halifax hasnt been in league as far as I can remember 😢 but hopefully yoh will one day and hope to see you guys at the bramall lane in coming years!🎉
@@Mooreytheblade thanks for the comment mate and good luck getting back to the premier league!
@styepen602 hope the shaymen gets into the football league in next few seasons good luck, like I say hope we play you guys soon in a friendly or cup, definitely would come to the shay
@@Mooreytheblade yeah hope so too bud, I think last time we played in a friendly we won 2-1 at The Shay when Wilder first came to Sheffield United.
There's less fans than I thought tbh
@@Moses_leonard10 it was a really low attendance.
