Dunn and Reath Restored Funny Car Fire Up
Fired up the Al Weich owned and restored Dunn and Reath Funny Car from the famous movie Funny Car Summer.Video by our good friend Keith The car was in storage from 1992 until Aug 2016 when it was pulled out and in 59 DAYS it was completed for the HOT ROD REUNION in Bakersfield CA. to celebrate the 50th aniversary of the FunnyCar it is also Voted #11 of the top 20 Funnycars of all time by DragRace Fans! The Trip to Bakersfield was a disapointment as they did not allow this car or any other FunnyCars to paticipate in the Cacklefest so we decided to do this when we returned back home(with only 73%Nitro all we had).Thank you to all understanding neighbors!
Thankyou
Thankyou

That thing just looks like a death trap
Does that fire breathing machine run on nitro or alcohol?
There was actually a movie about “Fireman” Jim Dunn called FunnyCar Summer which came out in 1977.
I saw this car win at Lions drag strip
So awesome! One of my all time favorites!👍
Good Lord that thing is gorgeous! 😍😍
Beautiful one-of-a-kind rear engine AA/FC
I have a copy of Funny Car Summer on DVD and signed by Jim Dunn. Got him to sign it at the New England Nationals here in NH. Hung around his pit area and chatted w/a few people, managed to get it signed. 🙂
Let's see electric cars do that!
Where's the hood scoop ? The driver could have used it to see out of !
I remember this car. One of the most beautiful funny s ever built to me. I do remember that Big Jim was never able to get it to work right. Here's a bit more funny car history. John Force tried running a chain drive. That really never worked.
Fantastic job either way but I do not remember this car running a 426 style engine ( as in this video for those that don't know the difference ).
I noticed that too. They always ran Reath-prepped 392s (?). Gorgeous resto of a gorgeous car, however
I use to follow Big Jim Dunn at OCIR.
There Ya Go. ..... Put that Machine up on concrete blocks in your front yard.
I remember going to Irwindale and OCIR and watching Jim Dunn running this and it predecessor in the early 70’s. What a great car.
I saw him run at Irwindale. Loved that car. I didn't see it win many rounds, but it looked cool.
I don't always listen to my Dunn & Reath rear engine funny car, but when I do, so does my entire neighborhood.
Watched those guys at Irwindale in the '70's. Remember those Irwindale burgers?
To lift , or not to lift.that is the question.
I'm sure that Joe Reath is looking down at all of this and smiling!
Watch this car run at Sacramento raceway !!!! Back in the DAY !!!!
Funny Car Summer!
I wish my neighbor would do this.
Beautiful!!!
since when were funny cars rear engine?...thats what makes funny cars so awesome was its front engine ,to me this is more of a novelty like wheelstanders.Nice car though and the engineering and frame design is awesome. update: Just saw a history on her and I was unaware of this car on the circuit ,never saw her run in any national events to my recollect but glad to see she took home the bacon once.
Get the DVD called Funny Car Summer. Its all about this car.
🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽ปป
I think at all of these cacklefests-They should let em do like a 60 foot blast- Then idle down the track.
Jim Dunn, was partners with my (at the time) best friend's dad, Dick Lopez, at LACoFD. I was very privileged, one year, to be Jim Dunn's guest, via Mr. Lopez, at Pomona, for the Winternationals, back in the early 1970's. It got me hooked on Drag Racing, for life.
one of my favorites... beautiful
2-4years tops, r,/,e FC's would be viable . glaring contradiction***-, r/e wheel standers, dragster's OEM cars , NO way funny car not do able!!! Quiry was it politics $$&$$ issue, something to do with technology development? Mmmmmmmm....... Surley rear engine FC's would be safer to run and why can't the bottom end be closed off?what with proper venting ,and fans, etc ,this assistance would reduce air borne trips.
Man it sure would be a treat to see that thing run once again!
Don’t like how close he is to windshield I think I like the engine front mounted better your either in the back seat or in the fricken windshield I’ll take the back seat looks uncomfortable up front
Funnycar summer...
Not much nitro ?
No just enough to make it cackle and so you can smell it. Way to expensive to put high loads of nitro in just to hear it run.
大 動
Salut.
aaaaah, to see the r/e cuda Dunn/reath rebuilt, running condition! IF Onlythe powers that be gave more time for development!!! Who would be scared of r/e f/C's who🐒🐒🐒=-O:-$;-)^_^:'(:-$=_=(+_+)=-O???
How do you get out of that car quickly in an emergency?
As I recall the center of the windshield opens like an escape door. I belive the roof had an escape door as well.
imagine being the neighbor with a straight piped chevy. now imagine being the neighbor with a fucking nitro burning funny car.
It just dont sound right
Get that fuel can away from the exhaust!
There running it from a hose from the can.
Rear Engine Funny Car. COOL HISTORY.
Talk about stance...I have never seen a better looking funny car.
Black Magic.
Why not do the original graphics on the body?
Looks right to me.
Did Jim Dunn still own this car when you acquired it ?
Planning on building a model of this car. Thanks for some detail shot.
beautiful
This is where the word AWESOME was meant to be
yes this is so cool I saw this car in its hay day on the track awesome !!!
exeptionnel ce drag , avec son moteur a l arriere, non? je cherchais justement une bonne idee a reproduire au 1.43
Jim Dunn is over rated he wasnt that good of a race car driver and he sucks as a tuner and he doesnt win drag races now , Dunn should get paid for smoking the tires
You have no clue what your saying. He was the little guys hero. Going after the big money teams with with a small tool box and a bag of baloney sandwiches. He had outstanding reaction times, he had to it was the only way he had a chance of winning was to win it off the line. The man can drive, and was well respected for his abilities by the other drivers. Other teams had to turn it up to get by him they never took jim lightly they knew that if they did that's all he needed to win. I could go on and on but those that know all ready know and those that are like you aren't worth the time.
JIM had a SCOTT SLIDER Clutch(spring type) which Added to His Reactions. He Was One of the Few who could drive a rear engine Flopper
