What does it look like during a multi-class qualifying session in SCCA? Have a look at this quick session at High Plains Raceway to see how sometimes finding a clean lap can be quite difficult with slower traffic. Track and time management are critical to ensuring you put yourself in the best position in the starting grid!

Have a quick look at a reverse field start (slowest cars up front) in a real SCCA race at La Junta Raceway in Colorado! Pandemonium! These are loads of fun, I love having to navigate the slower traffic while not interrupting the racing going on in that class (the Spec7 guys are intense!)

Competed in my first SCCA event at HPR and set a new personal best of 2:08 and change. Need to shave about 5-6 seconds off my time to be really competitive in my class. The good news is that I feel confident I can shave at least a few seconds by being a little bolder on the throttle in a few corners and adjusting my line in a few more. All in all, things are progressing and I'm getting faster!

    From all that, I can tell you that doing so will cause the MIL to illuminate and codes to set. There are other things that will be affected also, but I don't know if they will affect the performance of your ride. That annoying MIL indication is enough to make me not even think of doing this..

    Thanks for the video, how have your oil temps been since and any impact on the radiator cooling?

    • @crisispointracing3423
      @crisispointracing3423 2 года назад

      No problem at all. Oil Temps have stayed below 250-260 since installing the oil cooler. Most recent race saw oil temps get no higher than 240 with ambient at around 80 deg F. No impact on radiator cooling, although I did replace the stock radiator with a DeWitts one at the beginning of this year. The only time I saw high coolant temps (pre-radiator replacement) was in July with an ambient around 100. And even then it didn't quite make it all the way to the red. So I'd say little to no effect on radiator cooling, especially if you remove the A/C.

    • @crisispointracing3423
      @crisispointracing3423 2 года назад

      It does not. Since this is a dedicated race car, no thermostat is needed as the car will get to operating temp fairly quickly on warmup laps. Might be handy on a cool day, lots of people have fabbed up a cover for the oil radiator to help get temps up while street driving.

    So why not fill the power bleeder with fluid like you are supposed to do? I have done both ways. Last week I filled it and used it for the fluid additions while I bled. Just curious why you don't fill the bleeder?

    • @crisispointracing3423
      @crisispointracing3423 2 года назад

      Great question, I'm probably over thinking things. Since the amount of fluid you need to replace isn't an exact science, you probably end up with fluid left in the container or not enough fluid in the container to finish the job. So you either end up having to move fluid back into the original container or adding to the tank. I figure its worth the extra 10 minutes or so not to bother with it and keep the leftover fluid in the original container.

    • @OCDRex11
      @OCDRex11 2 года назад

      @@crisispointracing3423 Thanks for responding. To answer having too much fluid, you then use that for the Ranger bleed! So, in effect, do the process reversed and you use it all! Learned this last week so I am not bashing. But, I have use the Power Bleeder for years.

    Hey guys, just a heads up that after a year of use I've noticed quite a bit of heat damage to the Taylor wires after this install. The internet will tell you (as it told me) that the metal heat shields on the stock wires/plugs aren't necessary, but I would HIGHLY recommend some sort of heat shielding on your wires, especially in a racing application. I am replacing now with MSD wires and DEI heat socks for next go around.

    Couple things I missed when talking about items that I want to have done in 2021. First off, brakes. Looking at a BBK for the fronts in 2021. Secondly, a race clutch. I don't have any issues with the stock clutch at the moment, but putting in a beefier model will be a good upgrade. Third, having the harmonic balancer replaced in about a week. Its a known weak point on the car and having it go out on the track would be a very bad day. Thanks again for tuning in and hope you enjoy the video!
