Why are bustier tops so difficult? Completing my dark academia set
Hello again! I finally finished this video which completes my matching set using my cool Pendleton wool plaid fabric. I have been wanting to learn to make a properly fitting bustier pattern for a long time - so I gave it my best shot and in this video I show you how I did it.

Making a pleated Dark Academia skirt
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
Hello! I'm trying to make a skirt using some of my favorite Pendleton wool - I had previously made a different garment with some of it, so in this video I have the added challenge of working with some pre-cut fabric. I also demonstrate how to sew an invisible zipper inside of a seam with both main fabric and lining, if that's something you've been struggling with. #handmade #sewing #sewingtutor...
Sewing my first Ren Faire costume, plus learning some embroidery
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
It's not too late to make a Ren Faire costume video right? Ren Faire is only during the summer where I live but I'm pretty sure it's still happening in other parts of the country. I went for the classic "hobbit tavern keeper meets lady pirate" look, using some embroidery to give the bodice some extra detail and more of a woven texture. I made a bustier top out of a red leather skirt I thrifted | #thriftflip

This was a new sewing adventure for me - I had made this top before already in a light cotton and it worked well so I thought I would try making it out of a red leather skirt that I thrifted. It was not easy but I am pleased with the results although there are definitely some issues that I might address in the future. Making a Quilted Jacket (A cursed project, but still beginner friendly)
Просмотров 1799 месяцев назад
Watch as I make many mistakes creating this quilted jacket from some scraps I had. Just because my project is cursed doesn't mean that yours has to be! It's a great way to use up scraps and flex some creativity without things (hopefully) getting too complicated. I used the Seamwork Easton jacket pattern as a starting point but you could easily use any jacket pattern you have www.seamwork.com/ca...
Trying Lace Insertion for the first time
Просмотров 4,9 тыс.10 месяцев назад
I decided to try a new (to me) technique called 'lace insertion' and thought I'd film it! Lace insertion is the technique of adding strips of lace between pieces of fabric - either for decoration or more practically for it can be used to extend the size of a garment. I made this simple blouse with some eyelet lace I had on hand and a piece of cotton that was otherwise not big enough to make a g...

@ thank you. It is real wool clan tartan material, but not enough to make a kilt. So, your skirt is potentially the route I will go.

Flat patterning is challenging! I have been sewing for donkey’s years but only flat patterning and making mock-ups for about 2/3 years. It’s definitely some kind of dark art!! Especially around armholes/shoulder slopes/necklines/boobs - all those curves and proportions!! I’m in a Lengburg bra dress rabbit hole and bra/bust cups seem to be highly challenging in any garment!! I think you did a stirling job! 😁 Thank you for sharing. 😊💝

Your next thing to learn about is, pattern matching. Very important with plaids.

    • @abbysilbert
      @abbysilbert 29 дней назад

The pattern matches really well actually. You can see that the yoke is cut on the bias, while the bottom is on the straight grain. So naturally that won’t line up. I also discuss this in the video, my choices for why I intentionally chose to match some places and not others.

A suggestion: If you ever want to sew an invisible zipper with a lining, install the invisible zip to the main fabric as usual. Then flip the lining down, right sides together, so the lining covers the zip. From the main fabric side, you can stitch slightly closer to the seam allowance and attach the lining. That way your lining should not get caught when you use the zip. Beautiful skirt. I wish I lived closer to the Pendleton factory.

Well done you! Congratulations for taking the plunge and having the self confidence to start - once over that barrier there will be no stopping you! You should be mighty proud of what you have achieved! It is all about patience and you have that in bucket loads!! You did a great job! One too I've seen from others making corsets that may help troubleshoot the shortened pieces is to pin (or, even better, baste!) the layers together in the position as they would sit on the body, is make it round (with the fashion fabric on the outside)! You can use a tailors ham or a bowl or whatever will fit ok into the rounded areas, like the hip-spring and bust. I've even seen one woman use a bucket! This should help reduce fabric gathering during sewing. Hope that help with your next one! I'm too chicken to try yet, but have watched sooooo many people make them that I feel well armed when I finally do.😂
