Rambling Wolfman
Добавлен 23 апр 2024
This is my (and sometimes our) journey into the world of physical media. I'm all about being able to physically touch the music and movies that I own. Join this GenXer (me Wolfman) and Millennial (my son The Tick) in our adventures in collecting, watching, and listening to physical media. We also will be sharing some opinions on the music, movies, and some gear that we collect and use along the way.

🙋🏼♀️Hi. I looked up that album🤭by Steve Karmen and it's in RUclips. 😟The MCA album is a reissue, the original issue is on United Artists. ❤🙂Thank you for the video
Aw man... There's nothing you can say that would make me happier than that my videos had gotten you through a rough time. We all need a little lift sometimes, and if i was able to give you that when you needed it, there's no accomplishment that would make me more proud. Thank you so much for the kind words, and for your support!
Man, you have no idea how much your videos helped get me through. I hate being in the hospital, and they were a great escape. Hopefully, I didn't get too strange in your comment section 🤪😆
Nice to see you back on your feet and on the mend. Grandma sure knows what you're talkin about on that Ambrosia album cover.
🤣 I hope not! 😆 Thanks, Slothsquatch! I'm feeling better and stronger by the day.🙏
Glad you're getting better 🦃💨👀
Thanks! It has been a rough one for sure, but I'm getting better every day.
Great to see you back on the interweb!
Thanks man! I'm glad to be back and upright!!
Welcome to the pleasure dome is a fantastic album.
I plan to do some Wolfman record reviews. As bad as my music reviewing skills are, I'm not sure they can be taken seriously, but I will try anyway.
You are very welcome. Glad it arrived in good shape. I was a little worried it would get damaged on the journey.
Thanks again!! It was kind of surprising that it was in perfect condition coming all the way from the UK!
Wolfman, great Walmart purchases. Good looking for the deals. Your flea market record store sounds more like an antique mall with the high pricing. That is not a good Yes album in my opinion. Look for Fragile or Close to the Edge. Don’t even compare Yes to Pink Floyd, you will continue to be disappointed. I am on your channel now getting a feel for your love of Pink Floyd. The Zonkman
So I have close to the edge coming soon, and I will give Yes another chance. I do love me some Pink Floyd, and I highly doubt that I will ever find another band or artists that I feel the same about. I really appreciate you watching and commenting. The Wolfman😉
Cannot compare Yes to Pink Floyd, Yes has some decent stuff, but not even close. They are good for the Lenny and Squiggy's version of Who's on First. My first 45 was Aerosmith Sweet Emotion/Dream On.
I agree. So many people have told me that Yes is right up there with Pink Floyd, but it's not even close, in my opinion. That's a pretty good 45. In my experience, the b-side is usually more of a filler song, but both of those are bangers. Thanks for watching and commenting ChuckU🙏
Get yourself a Spin Clean, makes a massive difference to popping.
I want to save up for the HummingGuru. What's your opinion?
@@RamblingWolfman I will have a Google. The Spin Clean was on Amazon deal of the day. I'm impressed with it.
@@RamblingWolfmanWoah that's a wedge of cash 😲
Wish you were here is probably my favourite Pink Floyd album.
I'm thinking that I'm probably going to have to do the usual my ranking of Pink Floyd albums like so many have done.
O.o Alan Parsons Project ❤ love his stuff, great producer/sound engineer too. I'm sure Wolfman knows Alan Parsons was sound engineer for Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon. Meddle and Wish You Were Here, solid pickups. Agree with you on the Echoes. Richard Wright was the genius behind that song. Man, you're getting me going Wolfman. Ramble On
100%! The Tick just gave me the news😞. Bummer, but we understand.
Thanks for sharing your latest treasures 👍
My pleasure! Thanks for watching man🙏👍🏻
Man, back in the 90s and 00s, when someone told me they were starting to collect records, I liked to tell them, "the first thousand are cheap". That's not really the case anymore, alas.
Haha, absolutely. Thanks for checking out my channel man👍🏻
Chicago in the 1970s was the best era for the band.
I have really enjoyed getting more familiar with Chicago recently. I have found them to be that band that sings so many songs that you think "I had no idea this was Chicago".
Today I learned that you're supposed to say "HUH, i'm just gonna look here, i'm just curious! to naked ladies" 🤣
😆😂🤣👍🏻
I just looked up the bongos bongos bongos because I swear ive heard of it before. Anyway its worth 19.75 used or 199.00 new on Amazon but these are third party sellers so they can literally ask for anything, it's just is anyone will to pay 199.00 for bongos bongos bongos 😂
I saw your comment and thought...dang it! I missed that one! Then I was somewhat relieved when I looked it up on discog and saw people selling it for as little as .75 cents(plus shipping, of course). 😅 I hate it when I miss something that has the potential for a good return on investment. Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.👍🏻
Nice relaxing video. Great family outing! Vinyl prices are pretty high at the moment. Before the boom records were practically being given away (well they were on this side of the pond 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧)
Thanks, man!👍🏻 Vinyl used to be that way here as well. I'm happy about the resurgence. I just wish that I had kept my collection and had been adding to it all those years when they were inexpensive. O well.🤷♂️ I'm not going to make that mistake again.😆
Great video. I have been following your MTB channel and was super excited to see you have your own channel. I used to be a audio engineer early in my career and love all this stuff 👍
Hey, thanks for watching, and I'm glad you found my channel. Hopefully, after watching some of my episodes, you are still "super excited." 🤣 Let me know what you think about all this miniture hifi stuff.👍🏻
ok you convinced me to follow along .... I have the same love for music .... now the question is .... are you interested in just hearing the music or are you interested in hearing the music with quality...what I mean by that is you can buy any turntable and listen.... now if you want to hear it hear it.... it will now depend on the equipment you play the record...for instance...music will play better with a quality needle...(shure) and then it comes down to turntable.... belt driven (rubber band turning the record plate) or do you go with direct drive (technics SLMK 1200) this was the standard turntable used by radio stations back in the day ; keep in mind that belt driven turntables tend to wear and the band stretches so the record will not spin in a consistent 33 or 45 RPM so the song will not sound right (kind of wavy like), direct driven turntables have a motor that keeps the RPM consistent without any issues. Now it will definitely depends on other equipment... amp/receiver and then speakers......you can buy he best needle and best turntable and a not so good amp/receiver and crappy speakers and it will not sound as it should...... I hope this makes sense. I was DJ back in the 80's thru the mid 90's and yes I carried all my LP's with my heavy DJ equipments to do gigs..so I have a little experience in this subject matter. Good luck buddy...... BTW. I can't believe the cost of records these days.... one suggestion is to buy compilations of records that have several different artist feature on one LP.....check Crocker Barrels Country Store ... the carry a bunch of these compilation type of records. Sorry for such a long post (comment).
I have a few episodes out with what I'm using for my stereo equipment. I went with an older Marantz direct drive turn table from a seller on ebay.
I had no idea that Cracker Barrel sold vinyl. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍🏻
Nothing wrong with starting a new hobby at any age.
I wish that I never took a 30ish year break from collecting music. Thanks for watching.
Also have DVD and HD Dvd's. Not many cassette or vhs but i still have a VHS player too. Simpler times will always be missed with me
Absolutely! I have always felt that the "simpler times" were so much better.
I still have a lot of CD's and magazines from from the late 90's and early 00's. Never getting rid of them
Haha I also love my old magazines. 🤣👍🏻
I found the cover of the DB Cooper album, is the cover supposed to be Jane Mansfield? Never heard of that first guy. I have heard of Linda Ronstadt off that compilation album. Old Man by Neil Young is a good song and then his stuff with CSNY. Hoping your son found you some gems. Edited because I remember the only Zappa song I know is Joe's Garage
I think the Neil Young album was my favorite from this haul of vinyl. Not sure if that's Jane Mansfield, but I love how risky alot of the older album covers were.
Enjoying the rambling. I'm off to look up the DB Cooper back cover 🤣
Haha thanks! Did you find the D.B. Cooper cover?😆
@@RamblingWolfman I did indeed. Also listened to it on my way home from work. I liked a few of the tracks, especially Small Town Talking.
Obviously someone out there wants you to repent your musical taste 🤣
No kidding. Hopefully, they don't get ahold of the crazy records I have coming in the mail.🤣
Do the headphones make horrible music sound good? Some teenager pulled the switcheroo! Did it have the little tape seal on the jewel case? If not you know what happened. I'm sorry this happened to you but I laughed at the part where you said touch the music you own but you don't wanna touch that.
The jewel case was wrapped in plastic but no extra seal. After looking into this further, I found that the Danzig 4 album is usually in a digi-pack cardboard case. This apparently has happened to a few people, according to a couple of Reddit posts. I chuckled a few times when watching this since it's been a few weeks ago.😆
@@RamblingWolfman 😂 I wonder how many people actually listen to the entire trash CD they get bamboozled with?
@slothsquatch5023 Yeah, if they are anything like me...not much.🤬😆
Danzig catfish 🦃💨👀
🤣 My first time!
Wall of sound, rattle the nails loose in your cabin...crank it to 11! The only thing that matters is if you're happy with the speakers and you get to enjoy your music using them. Please no Nickleback albums...
Haha. I'm definitely not a Nickleback fan! I have definitely enjoyed this re-entry into collecting and listening to music. We have a bunch more music hauls coming (if I can get The Tick to finish the rough edits). The speaker review is coming soon as well. Thanks for watching my little project.
@@RamblingWolfman That's good! You got me wanting to start a collection now too. Your channels are bad for the wallet lol. Tell the Tick you've been supporting him for years and it's time for him to start supporting pops! Looking forward to your speaker review and the little guy smiles at the tv when you're on there rambling away.
Now it's time to start collecting and you can upgrade your system if you choose too as you come across some good deals. Nice to see the total cost breakdown as well, tell your son to take notes on that part.
Thanks, man! I try to get The Tick to do running totals on our bike builds, but he is beyond stubborn sometimes.😒
@@RamblingWolfman He should really start doing that for the bike builds and the RC builds.
Chicago kicks ass man, just don't play it backwards.
😆 Chicago is one of the bands that I have finally embraced since starting to collect again.
@@RamblingWolfman I have only recently started to appreciate Chicago myself, they played them on the cheesy listening station when I was younger and that made them a non-factor in my eyes.
@@slothsquatch5023 Chicago The Terry Kath Years 1969-1978 are the best from Chicago Transit Authority(Chicago I) to Chicago XI.
@@RamblingWolfman Chicago The Terry Kath Years 1969-1978 are the best from Chicago Transit Authority(Chicago I) to Chicago XI.
@@RamblingWolfman Chicago in the 1970s was the best period.
Something about the hiss and pops when listening to vinyl and the sound always feels like it has more depth to it. Please Wolfman, get an old copy of Darkside of the Moon....the transition from A to B side is amazing.
Dark Side is definitely on my want list in vinyl. I used to have the cassette, but I can't wait to get it on vinyl along with Animals.
@@RamblingWolfman Hell yeah brother!! Both are must have albums for the collection.
Hey, it's not bad for $25 and it's got a headphone holder for ya or a helmet holder. lol, granny gonna pinch your turntable table.
She is definitely eyeballing that stand😆
@@RamblingWolfman haha, she's gonna use it for all of her CBD gummies
🤣
Wolfman says he wants criticism from us as he's waving a knife at the camera 🤣 I've been curious as to how you got that nickname, was wondering if "Clap for the Wolfman" by The Guess Who was written about you hahahahaha. better watch that beard around the player.
I actually got my nickname back in the 80s from a buddy whose nickname I can't put in the comments, or I might get into trouble 🤣
Is that opening drum machine noise a sample from Blue Monday by New Order? i thought you were a big 8 track guy? 🤣 It was always a blast to go to a record store and browse through all the CD's and Albums. lil squatch enjoys watching and listening to your rambling
I have definitely listened to some 8 tracks in my life. I'm glad lil Squatch enjoys the rambling because not too many do😆.
@@RamblingWolfman I bet more people enjoy your rambling than you think.
Good call on using protection, gotta make sure it stays clean and you don't pick anything up! I haven't had vinyl since I was a little kid but many audiophiles prefer it and i'll admit there is something to listening to records and not CD's.
I should have always used protection!😜 I hadn't had any vinyl since I was a teenager, but I'm loving it now. Thanks for watching.👍🏻
I also dislike Bluetooth headphones. I've just picked up some Sony MDR 7506 headphones. Really pleased with how they sound.
My Bluetooth headphones are Sony, and I love them for watching shows, but I just don't like making my music any more digital than it already is. Thanks for watching and commenting.
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🦃💨👀
🤢😆
Excellent presentation and congrats on pulling it all together! You’re already on your way to enhancing your system and I’m sure you’ll continue to buy more LPs and cassettes. You look really happy. Congrats!
I appreciate that, man. Oh yeah, I got some more LPs, and I'm absolutely hooked 😆. It feels great getting back into this after so long. Thanks again.
Hey Wolfman , found your channel from Australia . Nice pickups Chicago & Steve Miller on my wantlist . Thanks 😎👌
Hey, thanks, man. I just picked up some more good stuff. I will be giving a vinyl and cd update soon.
@@RamblingWolfman Awesome , look forward to it . Cheers
You won't regret getting the Fosi X3, I'm blown away by how good it sounds. I did get the upgraded matching General Electric tubes though.
I've been using the X3 for a few weeks now and absolutely love it! I will be doing a video on it after enough experience with it. Can you email us the model number of the tubes you used to upgrade? I might try some other tubes at some point.
@@RamblingWolfman My mistake, I have an X2. the X3 already comes with upgraded tubes.
The Wolfman has very similar taste to me.
I guess that means that we both have good taste in music.😄
I prefer vynl records over other physical formats because it forces me to listen to albums from start to finish the way the artist intended them to be played. Mainly because its a hassle to get up and move the needle to another song. I have actually heard music that I did not know existed from certain artists just by letting the record play. I also enjoy placing the record on the turntable and watching it spin. On CD it is so easy to skip through songs same for streaming services. I no longer purchase cassettes because I have found them to be very frail. Many of the cassette tapes I have owned, have been caught and ruined on the cassette player. Perhaps because they are so old.
Absolutely. I find myself doing the same. Don't get me wrong, I love my cds, but vinyl has an effect on me that I don't get with a cd. Cassettes will always have a place in my heart because that's what I mainly had as a young teen.
That Tracy Chapman album is cracking.
I had only ever heard Fast Car and Give Me One Reason until I got that record and I already owned the cd.🤷♂️ Something about vinyl.
I've been looking for that album over here, but it is ridiculous money.
@husky0877 I just looked at Discogs and the Tracy Chapman LP is my most valuable album yet. I found it for $1.49 in vg+ condition at a flea market. I guess I got lucky.
@@RamblingWolfman Over here we would call you Jammie.
I have the Fosi X2, sounds absolutely fantastic.
I literally had the X2 in my cart, but at the last second, I decided to go X3 mainly for the thought that it might have more gain. I'm now wondering if I should have gone with the X2.
@@RamblingWolfman Will be interesting to see the difference. I did get the upgraded tubes though. Did you get my email?
A company as big as Audio Technica isn't going to sell a turntable that will ruin vinyl and trash their reputation.
Tell that to an audiophile. I swear it doesn't matter if it's bikes, cameras, or audio equipment, there is always those people who will shame those who don't spend ridiculous amounts of money on stuff. I will never understand this.🤷♂️
@@RamblingWolfman To be an audiophile is someone who enjoys music, whatever it's being played on. Everything, every hobby has snobbery and elitist a**eholes who just want to ruin someone else's enjoyment by being a dick.
@husky0877 Here in America, an audiophile is considered someone who is in to hi-fi at a professional level. If the music is their primary focus they are more of a music lover.
Wolfman, Audio Technica do a replacement cartridge for your turntable. It's $30 on LP Gear. Search for AT3600L cartridge.
I bought a turntable back in November because i wanted to play the records i had when i was a kid. Didn't want to spend a massive amount. After watching loads of RUclips i got a Audio Technica and im blown away by how good it sounds. Vinyl just feels warm. It also takes you back to when you were a kid.
I almost bought the Audio-Technica lp60. I decided to go a little more retro, but something tells me that I will eventually end up with either the lp60 or lp120 at some point.
@@RamblingWolfman I got the LP60 on Amazon during Black Friday. I wanted something that just worked out of the box, and it just does. I have bought a tube valve pre amp and it just sounds fantastic through my Denon receiver and Jamo speakers.
@@husky0877 Sounds like a nice setup.👍🏼
Aww your green screen betrayal was like finding raisins in my chocolate chip cookie. Enjoy your journey back to physical media! Digital and streaming are soul-less platforms. Physical media indulges us through our multiple senses of hearing, touch, sight, and smell so it impacts our brain on a deeper, more satisfying level imo.
Haha, yeah, the green screen was my son's idea. Thanks, man. I'm looking forward to this getting back into physical media thing.
