Bourbon Review: Penelope Architect Series, Build 7
Too sweet for my taste. I had just one in Tuscaloosa in my college days. I wondered why the Crimson Tide fans didn't match the crimson; strawberry margarita or something with cranberry juice. Sloe gin isn't fit to drink; try it on pancakes. In my younger days it was mixed with Pepsi ("Sloe gin fizz") and used to seduce someone that shoulda known better. The only way I ever liked it was when it was used as a marinade or glaze or both, for roasted foul like pheasant. Interesting series, I'll stay tuned.
I wondered the same thing about why it wouldn't be more red. I tend to like sweet stuff so I actually like this. But Sloe Gin on pancakes??? I think I'll pass on that but THANKS FOR WATCHING!!
You could go with an non peated scotch. Thanks for the video!!!
I'll have to look into that - thanks for the tip! Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much ❤
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for making this video. Cheers.
@@OnlyDramsSonny You bet! Thanks for watching!
@ScalpersSpeakeasy We have some really cool new features coming out here soon. Would love to get your thoughts.
@@OnlyDramsSonny Absolutely! Let me know when the updates are pushed out and I’ll check them out.
OnlyDrams 💯
To do favorite, do the generic bottle not the one in your collection. So search Buffalo Trace and do the three dots there before you pick your bottle. Favorite, review and wishlist are in there.
Thanks for the info & thanks for watching!
Thanks! I'll check out Only Drams as well.
@@CrowSW-s3l I think you’ll like it. Thanks for watching!
This is perfect timing. I just downloaded only drams last night. Thanks for the reviews and tips!
Glad to hear it! I think you'll like how easy it is to use. Thanks for watching!
As a Texan, you’re welcome haha. I’m close to western Oklahoma, do you think any are still available and what general area? Thank you for the review.
There are some in the Tulsa area supposedly. Not sure if they'll last as I think they were going for $89 each. I know of one of my local stores still holding out and has a couple of bottles locked up with a price of $329 on them. Thanks for watching!
I have them both. I started with WhiskeyShelf because it came out first . They both do a great job of keeping track of your whiskey. I like the bottle presentation in only drams and the monthly bottle raffle. WhiskeyShelf allows you to track more information than only drams. I find the location feature very useful and it allows you to print out a report. WhiskeyShelf allows you to enter a purchase store, Only drams provides you a list that is far from being complete. I’d be interested in what you find as you use them.
That’s 351 just appeared in my local Costco for $200. So thanks for saving me money. Your video doesn’t seem like a ringing endorsement.
I really do like it flavor-wise. I just have a hard time paying high MSRP prices let alone secondary prices that this commands. I wanted this one bad enough that I bought it. I don't like paying $125+ for bourbon and this is 2x that. At $200, I would probably buy one more as a backup and then both will be brought out ONLY for special occasions with special friends. THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Also from Google: The Bond & Lillard batch that typically does not explicitly state a batch number on the bottle is the "standard" Bond & Lillard release; this is because it is essentially considered a "batch 1" and is not marketed with a specific batch designation on the label, unlike the limited release "Batch 2" which clearly states its batch number.
That's interesting. I still haven't figured out why they changed the bottle from the Batch 1 & 2 versions. Appreciate all the additional info!
@@ScalpersSpeakeasy no problem. Glad I could help
According to the Google: Yes, both W.B. Saffell and Bond & Lillard use the same mash bill, which is Wild Turkey's standard mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley; meaning they are essentially the same base whiskey, just potentially blended differently to create distinct flavor profiles.
Great info! I googled a lot and didn't run across that info. Thanks for watching!
@ I try not to miss an episode.
That looks great! An Old Fashioned is the best cocktail in the world, when done properly. I always thought Don went a bit easy with the Rye in his version though. He was making 2 cocktails and didn't seem to put much in. But it's television, and like you say they probably shot it several times.
I've found that I like the bourbon version more but if I use Rye I'll add in a touch more simple syrup. Thanks for watching!
I love making big batches of eggnog
Buck’s Fizz I love it with my Xmas dinner 👍
I agree! Thanks for watching!
Never do this but 2 drops of water opened this up and it tasted quite a bit better
@@THEPHYSICALSPIRIT yeah I should try that more often. It does seem to help. Thanks for watching!
Tastes like whisky to me
@@BillyBelk it has a lot more cinnamon finish to me than regular JB. Maybe a bit more vanilla too. I’m trying to think of a good cocktail for to use it in.
I’ve heard about this - never seen it but wanting to try it
Definitely worth the price! Thanks for watching!
Inflation? lol. I found this same bottle with the same day stamp for $49.99 tonight in Arkansas. Sounds like the $10 increase is your local shop price gauging, not “inflation”.
Well, Oklahoma is not a top tier state when it comes to allocation numbers so no telling how much the distributor is charging the local stores. This same store sold $400 Batch 12 Kentucky Owl for $99 so you just never know. Thanks for watching!
I just picked up a bottle that was marked down to $99 in Ky
Nice! I didn't think they'd drop that much in KY. There is still one store near me in OK that has it locked up and priced at $335. Thanks for watching!
@@ScalpersSpeakeasy it’s been sitting on the shelf for $250 for months. Apparently the price drop came after a conversation with Ky Owl rep.
Recently saw this available at a store near I’m visiting in NJ. Hoping I can find it along my travels! Also nice redskins sticker HTTR.
HA! I forgot all about that being stuck on the fridge. I'm not actually a Redskins fan but my wife stuck in on there because I have Indian motorcycles. I think you can find Blue Note nationwide. Thanks for watching!
Kevin, I’m glad you’re enjoying retired life. This looks SUPER fun!!
Well, retired but looking! So this is my fun in the meantime!!
You got me on the Knob Creek Maple, my friend and i finished a bottle in 18holes of golf, i had to go grab another bottle, it is sooo good! Just cracked open this Knob Creek 12yr today, Happy Thanksgiving! It is quite Delicious also!! 1\3 of the bottle gone already! :D
The maple is SOOOO easy to drink. I love it and the KC 12 was a very pleasant surprise. I've heard it's better than the KC 18 so I haven't splurged for one of those yet. Thanks for watching!
Just picked up one today in mid michigan for $59 , can't wait to try it 👍😬
Awesome! I liked it so much I went back and bought more from my local store and drank one this week. Thanks for watching!
W
Drinking tequila chilled defeats the whole purpose of tequila. You either drink tequila because you enjoy it or you are craving the burning sensation of it, chilling it cancels both, it just feels like you are drinking cold water.
So I've been told. Never tried it personally. Thanks for watching!
How is this guy not drunk.
By not drinking the entire bottle for a review!
In some country’s Brass Monkey is slang for junky
That's actually part of the lyrics. It opens like this: "Brass Monkey, That funky Monkey, Brass Monkey junkie, That funky Monkey". Not sure if they did that because it rhymed or because of what you said. Thanks for watching!
@@ScalpersSpeakeasy very interesting that’s where it must come from learn something new every day…Thx for sharing
Gen X From Detroit here. 1970. Now in Phoenix. Excellent Job sir. Great Vid.
Thanks for watching and for the shout-out from Detroit!
Id like to try that but replace the vodka with cachaca.
Hmmm. What is cachaca? I've never heard of that. If you try it with that let me know how it turns out! Thanks for watching!
@@ScalpersSpeakeasy Anthony Bourdaine describes it best ruclips.net/video/kbUHvKIAWrM/видео.html
A college friend, who was a lot older than me, introduced me to Brass Monkey back in the late 70's. Man, did we get schnockered on that stuff. I seem to remember that it was about 80 proof in the original version. Heublein introduced a 40 proof version later and it was not as good. When it comes to dark rum, I'm a Myer's man. What rum did you use here?
I used Bumbu XO dark rum. I only have one other dark rum but it is 20 yo rum and too expensive to use for cocktails. I do need some more though! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! For the mezcal, Try making a margarita, but with half tequila and half mezcal instead.
That's a great idea! I'm always looking for new ways to use mezcal. Thanks for watching!
From my experience with buying a couple bottles of McKenna 10 I will be overlooking them in the future and picking up the EW BoB at the cheaper price point. Flavor profile of the EW BoB has been on par with the McKenna for my pallet so the price point isn't there for me on this one. A lot of better bottles out there in the McKenna price point if not below. Kind regards as always
I like EW also. That review was published as a short: ruclips.net/user/shortsfgoUN7j6oS8?feature=share
Since that was bottled they have changed the label to indicate the campus as well as warehouse. Previously, warehouse noted could have come from any of the campuses. Camp Nelson bottles are excellent. Most of their premium bottles come from there (Single Rickhouse, and RR 13 &15). I have a CN-F that is terrific. Heard lots of good about CN-E too.
Good to hear! Thanks for watching!
I've only had the 10year, which is good. Looking forward to grabbing one of these soon 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
I'm canadian and I don't out bbq or soy in my ceasers
Well I assume that's like most other drinks of this type, it's all about personal taste. I searched the 'net and picked the Canadian version I saw the most. Thanks for watching!!
Knobel(n) is by the way a German word for figuring things out but almost exclusively used in cases of games, puzzles and riddles.
Always cool to know the original meaning of last names! Thanks for watching!!
Super Kevin!!!
Thanks!! Give me any additional suggestions of stuff you like!
I just picked this up because I like new Belgium. And I like anything bourbon barrel aged and I think it's pretty good
I really like these but DANG they are expensive for a beer!! Thanks for watching!
It's a decent single barrel, but as you sorta stated, not really worth the price. Rare breed is cheaper as well as higher proof and better IMO.
I still need to get me some RB. Thanks for watching!
Russell’s single barrel is aged anywhere from 8-11 years but more commonly 8-10.
Thanks for watching and providing feedback!
Try letting it sit for ten minutes before drinking it before you add ice :-)
Will do! Thanks for watching!!
This is a great bourbon!
Yes it is! Thanks for watching!
It was Doug Coglin who made the Red Eye cocktail. And he used Miller Genuine Draft as his beer of choice. Although Miller High Life will do.
And it tasted good! Thanks for watching!
Kept seeing it on the shelf & found the video 😅
HIGHLY recommend getting a bottle if you find one cheap!
I corked my SR. Itching to try the 107. Less than a year into my bourbon journey at 30 years of age. Have maybe 30 bottles. Only two I don’t love are bakers 7 8y6m & 4roses store pick osbo that has a dry oakiness.
I'm also not a big fan of Four Roses. Maybe I just haven't found the right one.
Fellow okie?! I’m in norman
Yep, I'm in the Norman area as well. Thanks for watching!
This is amongst the best Tequilas I have tried yet. Nice haircut Devil Dog.
@@ebenb9195 thanks for watching! But, no Devil Dog here, 100% Army!!
Tequila with grapefruit soda is most common mix akin to bourbon and Coke. Add lime juice and it's called a Paloma. Would also highly suggest an Old Fashioned with repo or anejo tequila. Follow same recipe as bourbon/rye Old Fashioned, just change it to tequila.
I don't like anything to do with grapefruit flavor and I'm on cholesterol meds so I can't have grapefruit juice. However, I am totally open to doing tequila OFs!! I'm also doing a Mezcal Negroni on 12 Nov. Be sure to check that one out! Thanks for watching!
