Can VW Really Outdo Itself? // 2024 ID.4 Review
Просмотров 56319 дней назад
We review the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 - their first "global EV" that should have been VW's answer to the Model Y but ended up falling short... except for one thing. This is the base RWD model with 150kw / 200 hp - the most common "daily driver" spec. We test it's launch time (0-100 kms or 0-60mph), discuss the ID.4 acceleration, the handling and steering feel, lack of one pedal driving, exterior s...

This Volkswagen Has CRAZY Torque // VW Touareg Review
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.2 месяца назад
Have you heard of the Volkswagen Touareg with the 4.0 V8 Twin Turbo DIESEL engine!? It runs a slightly detuned version of the pre-facelift Audi SQ7 TDI motor, yet somehow the VW Touareg flew under the radar despite being the VW with the most torque EVER in a production car (so far). We test the 0-100 km launch (0-60mph), sound, styling, interior, R-line parts, and of course the "plane-like" 900...

Why The Gran Coupe Might Tempt You // 2017 BMW 440i Review
Просмотров 2655 месяцев назад
The 2017 BMW 440i Gran Coupe is a car that might just be your perfect pick because there’s no 4 door liftback M4 in the lineup to overshadow it. You'd have to get the 2 door coupe, or get the 3 series sedan (without a hatch). We explore how this #B58 powered #F36 #BMW 440i delivers the ideal balance of performance and practicality, but is the styling too much of a compromise? Only you can decid...
A truck with a front bench seat finally!
Werent they working together in some way? Makes sense that the vehicles have similar intents and designs
With Volkswagen already in flames
Looks better than Rivian to me IMO
The last scout was produced 40 years ago. The first Rivian was produced a few years ago. Who copied who?
I don't see it looking like the Rivian
Really scout is just staying true to their old body style and making it new. Rivian just came out before this got to be. But it doesn't seem like they are phased by rivian at all. It's completely a different purpose.
Great review! Nice to see one that isn’t just wannabe Clarkson. Irish motoring journalists are especially funny, echoing UK concerns about range on an island only 600km at its longest by road. In Europe, many are realistically chosing between 1.5 petrol, 1.6 diesel and EVs. I think better performance (5-8s 0-100 vs. 9-11s for ICE) is an actually a selling point for those into cars, without the means to run larger engines. Ireland misses out on most fun engines, with precious few automatics if you needed one. We are many years ahead of you… in struggling to get fun cars that aren’t incredibly expensive. 😅
I've heard a lot about the car selection (or lack thereof) over there - we are really lucky here in New Zealand to get access to all sorts without heavy tax penalties. I remember when the Kodiaq RS first came out and it was a 2.0 diesel. We got that here too, but it was confusing to be competing against all the higher power GLC, X3/X5, Q7s. Then I drove one and was really impressed. I can imagine living in a country where small displacement or EV are the main choices and you'd learn to love what you have. Thanks for commenting, mate!
Certainly there is an element of learning to love what you have, I picked on EV over what I had access to, but something like the 193hp 2.0 hybrid Corolla tourer would have been mighty tempting if they sold it here, we only got the 114hp 1.8 at the time, and the Fiesta ST was on its way out at mad prices of near €40k. I love the little ST but it just isn't worth €40k, and the new baby ST in name only now it's a 1.0l Puma. Outside of Ireland I probably have made totally different choices, most likely being a two car household for a start. I did look at an id3 and didn't like it at all though. Styling, interior, driving and value there are competitors that beat it on all fronts for me. I picked up a MG4 and it's been very good, really cheap, no issues to report, it has been a brilliant cheap car. No cache whatsoever, but it drives very well. With €6k total in EV grants, €4 something to fill overnight vs €1.88 a litre, one pedal (OPD) in stop start traffic, remote heating/cooling, and instant torque... I would be wanting a lot more to go back to ICE. The sums also worked for me, but I see how they really don't for many, particularly based on where you are. You are very right on OPD and efficiency, looking ahead you can almost always eek out more efficiency by coasting than you can trying to manage balancing full OPD at motorway speeds.
See! This is what I’m saying, why don’t they make a good VW Buzz instead?
Whatever they say it costs, double it. Whatever they say the range is, cut it in half.
Gotta get the range extender to make it 500 miles
Re: Airbags off.. its so you can put a babyseat or child in the front seat and it won't kill them basically. Audi always usually put isofix points in the passenger seat. The are definitely in the B8/B8.5
Next Audi to review, Rs6 or Rs7 C7. I rexkon these are just a step above this Rs4 imo.
@@TheDarkhorse82 would love to. Know anybody in New Zealand willing to lend us one for the day? 🤩

What's with everyone thinking these are like Rivians? The Scouts are bigger, more utilitarian, and looks boxier. Of course, the Scouts do show some slight similarities, as in, they're trucks and SUVs. Barring the hideous Cybertruck, mostly all trucks and SUVs have the same general appearance. What are you expecting? An egg shaped cab, with the bed in front? 😆
Just bought a 2021 one owner this week, came from a Lexus 2022 RX350 F Sport. Very impressed with the power and the economy. Way quieter inside and more comfortable than the Lexus, and air suspension and 4 wheel steering sure work well.

VW releasing a whole new product line right before their Bankruptcy? Holy Toledo.
My dad have the this Touareg in a boring grey, they are on point. Because my dad bought this because he is very often out visiting customers on construction sites, gravel pits and factories. It goes so well under the radar, (he says).

@@nightb2759 yeah we were pretty shocked at the fuel economy. Big power diesels are our new obsession
Comparing to m550d x drive would be intresting. 3L 6cylinders and 4 turbos at 400hp and 760Nm
We're very keen to drive one (or an X5 M50D). On paper, it makes less power and torque than this Touareg - it made us wonder if any diesel engine can match this V8 TDI?
@@kiwiGTshow only Audis v12 TDI in a q7 i can think of
@@craigauty6756 true, that does make more power and torque. Need to drive one of those too. The 0-100 (0-62) time is slower, so I'm guessing it's the extra weight and the 6 speed transmission letting it down there
@kiwiGTshow yeah I heard it could make alot more than 1000NM but transmission couldn't handle it
From memory the engine is very similar but not completely same as the SQ7. The 4.0 TDi on the SQ7 has an electric compressor driven by 48v to eliminate low rpm turbo lag. (Practically a 3rd turbo). The VW didn’t employ the electric compressor (due to cost?) instead they played with the cams and valves at low rpm to try and reduce the lag.
"Came out of nowhere?" They announced it two years ago. 🤣
The stock redline/limiter on those rs4’s sounds AMAZING. Cracking production quality & great video lads, keep it up 👍
We couldn't believe that the revs kept climbing - it sounded like it was going to blow up but in the best possible way. Thanks so much for the kind comment, mate!
100% on the philosophical ideology of ICE over EV
Wagons are so hot right now....that many manufacturers have discontinued (their fault)
Yeah, I think the C8 RS6 had a lot to do with the recent hype around wagons (especially in North America). But to be fair they've been popular in UK, Australia, and New Zealand for decades.
Maybe this has something to do with VW ibvesting 5bn into Rivian
VW dealers groups suing VW over this.

it's legit a copy of a rivian, the interior, the exterior.

VW going bankrupt by following Electric/ Reason it not reliable, Charging time inconvenience, battery replacement price and etc.... The Ultimate comeback - Adding to German economy boost
Waiting on the horse and buggy option with you b4 I buy 😂
Used to own a B8.5 V8 RS4 just like this... That 8,250 redline didnt grow old. I was paying frequent visits to the gas station though! 😅
That's awesome, what did you buy after the RS4? They're definitely thirsty beasts. We used 1/4 of a tank filming this review with just a few pulls and about 20m of driving around talking smack.
A stage 2+ b8 s4 has more power (460awhp) and still has no lag with the supercharger and comes alot cheaper, it's down side is it will never sound as good as the v8 and dosent rev as high
@@craigauty6756 yeah we remember that video from Chris Harris comparing a tuned S4 to a stock RS4 and it won - it might have even been stage 1?!
@kiwiGTshow yup that was just a flash tune, I'm stage 2+ with wmi ontop and sit around 550-570hp. I'd love a manual b7 rs4 for purity and people do turbo them upwards of 1000hp just 35k for the kit
@@craigauty6756 yeah the owner of this B8.5 RS4 also wanted a manual B7 - they're so expensive though!
Definitely not going to be 60K and also VW has given them money, but it is entirely a US product. Meaning VW doesn’t own them.
They 100% own them. But you are right they are being run as an independent entity. American designed and made in South Carolina. And unlike other electric trucks it’s a body on frame with a solid axle……not saying that makes it any better, but those are the facts
Definitely not going to be 60k
Also while there is no denying it has some shared looks to a Rivian, it shares nothing with a Rivian, and is much bigger look up the specs these things are almost full size vehicles
A gas hybrid is available as well with 500 miles of range which definitely separates it for the all electric options on the market, I reserved one 😅
That’s makes it far more appealing
I won't buy a vehicle in its very 1st model year
Euro cars are beautiful but they are all unreliable. Yes there is going to be people that have been lucky but most are not.
Honestly... I've had 10 Euros over the past 5 years or so and besides normal maintenance, the only thing that's broken was a sensor that cost a couple hundred bucks. Key is to make sure you're buying a car that's been properly maintained, and keep that up. I'm not saying they're a Toyota, but I do feel as though they get flogged on when they're not as bad as some people make them out to be. Maybe I'll go backrupt tomorrow 😅
This is the biggest myth along with ‘Euros are more expensive to own’. Both really wind me up. ANY car can be unreliable. The key is looking after it, and servicing it on the correct service schedules. If you do that (with any car) you will go well. Too many people disregard service intervals, don’t service things like transmissions, so yea no kidding it will run into issues.
Myth
How did this one feel with regards to its ks? Still fresh to drive?
@@BenThomas089 this example has done 90,000kms and it felt tight. The DSG shifted well and the interior had no rattles and generally held up well. It's hard to say if the engine was in top condition given these suffer from carbon build up but it seemed strong all the way through the rev range 👍

Hey guys great start to the channel! Can't wait to see which car you'll film next. Just a couple of back seat driver pieces of feedback. Chuck in a few more B rolls - shots of the exterior walking around the car and shots of the car driving. Just to break up the conversations in the car. Otherwise, production quality is good and cool to see people speak about cars in such a passionate and interested way. Good luck for the future and you gained a subscriber 🇳🇿
