From the reading of your text, you're not happy that I used the word liars for those claiming that they have the Spiritual gifts today to prophesy and perform wonders. My brother I want you to read this from the bible: Jeremiah 23:16, 21, 25-26 ESV [16] Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. [21] “I did not send the prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied. [25] I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ [26] How long shall there be lies in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart". It is clear from these verses that those who claim to be prophesying for God but are not, are liars. Secondly, you referred to Joel 2:28-29 and Acts 2:17 to justify why you support what these claimers are doing. I believe you have not understood this prophecy of Joel which was quoted by apostle Peter in Acts 2:17. Remember this is a prophetic language and should not be taken literally as it is read. In the prophecy, Joel says, God in the later days will pour out his Spirit on all flesh, and sons and daughters shall prophesy. Even your males and females in those days He will pour out his Spirit. This prophecy has been misinterpreted by the Pentecostal and the Charismatic people as a result claiming falsely that they are being used by God. What is the meaning of this prophecy? 1. In the later days - here the Prophet was not referring to our time (21st century). Peter made it clear in Acts 2:14-21, that Joel's prophecy was fulfilled in their time (1st century). 2. To pour out His Spirit on all flesh - this is not to be taken as literal flesh (remember both animals and humans have flesh) therefore to interpret this literally as it is worded, would mean every human being regardless of status (even if they are pagans, thieves, believer or unbelievers) will receive God's Spirit. Absolutely not!, all flesh doesn't mean every human. According to the Jews, Gentiles were not counted amongst God's people. To them they were the only flesh ( people) that God knew. For the prophet Joel to use the phrase 'all flesh ' , he meant both the Jews and the Gentiles (who are also flesh). The term all flesh does not mean all individual human beings but simply referring to the Jews and the Gentiles. In Acts 2:1-14, the Spirit came upon the Jews first. Hence "Are all these who are speaking not Gallelians?" Verse 7, meaning they were all Jews (one part of flesh has the Spirit here) In Acts 10:44-48, the Spirit came upon the Gentiles (the other part of flesh also has the Spirit) the same manner as he fell on the Jews in Acts 2. These two incidents fulfilled Joel's prophecy of "All Flesh". Apart from these two incidents, the only time someone could have the Spiritual gifts was through the laying on of the 'Apostles' Hands'. Therefore without the apostles' hands, no one was able to receive the spiritual gifts. Please read these Bible verses carefully to confirm the above statement I have made: 1. Simon saw that only the Apostles could give the Spiritual gifts - Acts 8:17-18 2. The Apostles laid their hands on these disciples before they were able to perform miracles, including prophecy - Acts 6:6-8 3. Paul, an apostle, laid his hands on these Christians to impart the Holy Spirit on them - Acts 19:6 4. Paul, an Apostle, promised the Christians at Rome that he was coming to impart the spiritual gifts on them - Rom 1:11 5. Timothy had the spiritual gifts through the laying on of their hands - 1 Timothy 4:14. From all these biblical passages and many others, no one can claim he can perform miracles today without the 12 Apostles' hands involved. All the Apostles, who had this power of impartation, died within the first century. Therefore claimers today are all false. I hope this helps.
