Exploring Minehead trails - Great place to ride - MTB
After seeing some great looking trails on another channel we got out to minhead to take a look for ourselves. The ride was cut a bit short due to brakes failing but we will definately be back. Theres a big patch of woods out there to explore and trails are scattered all over it!

A roam round kings cliff with Eva. Main aim was to get comfy on the step up again as I haven hit it yet this year. Also did a bit of analysis of my jumping technique at the end, hopefully I can improve the problems I discover!

First ride of 2024, took a trip to Wind Hill Bike Park and Im now closer to 50 than I am to 40 🤔 Great place, really pleased with getting the drop on payrise done, seem to have lost some confidence on the jumps on Empuru though. Great first ride of the year, thanks to Josh for coming out with me, and cheers to Alex who led me into the drop and showed us down Ark At Ee. Great day out, nice bit o...

Triscombe is so much fun...thanks for showing us other option's
Yeahs its good up there, there's plenty of trails up there I havent found yet too. I havent been in a while, not been out riding since november! CAr dont like the weather n local trails all out of action too.
Is this in exmouth?
These trails are so sketchy in the wet!
Hi, is this still rideable @ wych lodge ?
no Ive heard its all been torn down by forestry a few weeks ago
Great Video !
thanks man , was a a fun day!
I’ve just started with my son (I’m 56) short and fat 😂 we live in Exeter so will be trying some of these trails.
@@clarity-in-motion9393 nice you have these nearby, theres some other good trails out on woodbury common too, all the trails close to me have been destroyed recently, forestry...
shame its all gone now
not been up there since I heard its been destroyed, shame was some good stuff to play on up there
idea, why dont you show the footage of you traversing between the trails/climkbing back up sped up or upload the raw files on a second channel.?
I tend to not record all that stuff normally, battery life and disk space is a consideration
@@midlife_mtb ye, that make sense
These are all destroyed now
Persistence! 😎🙌
Looks quality
yeah was a sweet place to explore, will be heading back to find more
Shhh! Don't tell everyone how good it is down here 😅 Worth looking on strava to locate the trails. Some secret ones to find too.
was a great place to visit, pretty close to home too, willl def be back looking for more trails we saw plenty we didnt try
That woodland looks beautiful! Nice trails too :)
yeah the woods isnt the only great scenery here either, didnt catch it on the vid but theres great views of the cliffs on the coast and you can see wales on the horizon! Its a lovely bit of the coast.
@@midlife_mtb nice! I had no idea there were any trails near Minehead.. although tbg ive only been to Butlins 😀
Looks class, what’s the postcode please?
TA24, if you turn off hopcott rd theres a carpark called lower hopcott, the first bit of woods isnt where all the best trails are though, but you can see them on the usual apps (trailforks, strava), its quite a big area with trails scattered about.
Love a bit of minehead, loam steepness for days but there are some really sketchy builds dotted about😂😂
Yeah was a good, glad my brakes didn't give out on the steeper bits! Didnt find anything too sketchy on this trip but we will def be back again to find more, want to find the trail usd for the southern enduro
@@midlife_mtb took me a while to find those, if tou head towards Bratton dh they begin around there, the easy way is park by the lay-by by the southern enduro field, there is a track going up to a fire road for those trails, check out Google maps, but officially that's off limits as its a gated separate wood.
indeed 😳 and i am only a youtube spectator
@@midlife_mtb those damn brakes !! seems a bit sketchy ... i just got laxed and went back to suspension seat post and rim brakes 😂
@@DonAltopio yeah I need to service stuff more, they are about 3 yeasrs old now n I dont do much to em 🤣, its thier first failure so not too bad 😅
The speed you hit those berms dude! Nuts! Some good jumping there, you'll get the third one soon. Just means there's still stuff to hit
Cheers man, jumping gaps has took a long time coming, feel like Im starting to get there though, need to improve my technique and rely on speed a bit less I reckon, wish Id started when I was younger 🤣, these jumps or jumps like them have been near me since I started riding 3 years ago, glad I can finally hit em (ish 😁)
@@midlife_mtb I feel that's the motto of MTB "wish I started earlier" 😂😂. Your jumping seems to be on point!! Yeah it's just gaps that do the head in.
enjoyed the slow mo analysis!
Cheers, I dont really know what Im doing but trying to work out how to get better 😁
Kings Cliff trails are shut for 6 months due to logging.
Oh damn, gutted, If Id have known Id have got up ther for a ride before hand
@@midlife_mtb You might be able to sneak a ride in, they've just started.
Nice vid dude. I’m a similar grey haired biker and just getting back into mtb past couple of years. Working my way through reds at BPW (was there Sunday gone) so it was nice to see something I can relate to. I don’t jump great but reckon next time will give A470 a go too. Have fun and thanks again pal.
Cheers man, I've been riding nealry 3 years now, been building jump confidence slowly. Starting to get there now though but it took a while to hit a gap! BPW is great fun.
Casually mentioned the casualty
Still there then?
yeah theres still things there, looks like its been looked after recently too, new jump, new landing on another one, very ridable atm
Lived near chard for 8 years didn't even know this existed 🙈🤣
Good riding there buddy, and KUDOS for doing Pay Rise. I've been there and looked at that middle drop about ten times, and STILL have not done it. As you say, the chicken line to the left is sketchier if you ride it quickly, and everybody says the middle drop is very smooth. It's just a head game for me now about being in the air for that long, well it's only about a second right? Any tips matey?
Cheers man, not got much tips except get someone to lead you in, makes it much easier to follow someone who knows and not worry aobut the speed. It is very smooth as long as you dont go to fast, a bit more speed and its more air time and a rougher landing, still fine though.
Nice riding mate :)
thanks man!
glad you enjoyed the new trails!
always good to have more to ride, Im not up to speed on em yet though, but Im liking the look of that tree stump jump one day!
@@midlife_mtbYou've probably jumped bigger step-downs at bike parks, however trail features are scarier to commit to I find
Hi I believe I saw you at orchard Portman a couple weeks ago you were on a vitus and your daughter was on a ragley ?
yeah not been out in a while though as the rear shock was a bit broken, its back in action now though so heading bpw later in the week!
Hi I saw you today at wych lodge
Hey, I remember you, was a bit slippy n slidey out there today!
My local 🔥
was fun riding there, wish it was closer to me to get some practice on regularly
I spotted the yellow jacket and body armour and thought that’s Mark! Video was awesome, I’ve not rode where you are but I do know it Might see you out these sometime 🤘
Im related to mark, so out with him quite often, cliff drop and the smaller road gap in my sights next time Im there
Mint spot. Fair one for keeping it quiet. Rode here a few times
yeah some good features, couldnt find the hip jmps Ive seen in older vids, and Im hitting the cliff drop next time!
@midlife_mtb the cliff drops fairly easy once you drop in. Just a hard one getting yourself towards it for the first time. Good luck dude
@@jameslines9794 yeah I suspected it looked worse than it is, its nearly just a roll in, wont really have to do much for the drop, just looks a bit grim from the top, wasnt feeling good on the bike that day
I recently discovered that spot! Great tracks for sure. Your mate did that cliff drop (as the lokes call it) nicely, I might have a go at it next time I go there 🤘
Yeah Im regretting not doing it, confidence is down a bit atm bike feeling like I have less grip, but it doesnt look too bad, just looks scarier than it is from the top!
I agree does look intimidating from the top. I reckon you've got that all day long! Hilarious how small it looks on camera!!
What camera do you use
Go Pro hero 11
Great edit - well done on the gap jumps! Loved the no brakes BMX!
Cheers man, yeah it tickled me watching him stop each time!
Nice job. How did it feel with that steep lip?
Floaty with a hint of panic 😄. Felt super smooth though, the landing didnt even make a sound! Only did it once though, should of hit it a few more times to get comfortable, next time...
Tracks look great - been meaning to get myself over there for some time.
Yeah theres plenty to try up there, a bit of exploring to find them all, theres quite alot I havent done out there, all the ones Ive found are quite techy, eeb will help with the pushups as getting back up is a bit savage in places, Im shocked I could cycle up it last year after having to push up this year 😆
daily dose of vitamin D right there - hope you were OK!
yeah no damage done at all, peak bounced off the floor!
Where's that mate ?
Kings Cliff Woods, down in Somerset
You should try rora woods near newton abbot, the trails are insane long and some have massive drops and jumps.
Cheers, not been there, looked around for info and sounds like the locals n land owner arent keen on riders
@@midlife_mtbYea they arent, Its because in covid their was loads of people up their buts its somewhat chilled out i havent had any one complain. and i go their all the time.
So smooth, nice job
I got the same bike. Size large. I'm 49.
Great bike, my daughter likes it and I love giving it a spin, much lighter than my bike, feels great on the trails!
Im starting at 42! You have my follow bro
Cheers man, I been at it for nearly 3 years now I think, its great fun
Gears are sounding sweet 🎉
Until today, need a new chain, might need new bb, wet sandy windhill bike park was a bit savage, few links out of shape on the chain, sand grinding sounds, brake disc a bit wonky, was a great day's ride tho! 😁
I havent done the middle drop yet its a bit scary atm for me...do you have any tips?
As you come out the corner at trail speed just free roll down to it, you'll have the speed, you can even dab brakes a bit but prob best not to. The worst thing about it is you cant see the landing until your right over the lip, but its actuall quite a smooth light landing. Hover near the top of the jump and hopefully a friendly local will lead you in, I find thats the best confidence boost. This feature is actually really smooth once you go off it, less sketchy feeling than the smaller line next to it, its mostly the confridence to go off it thats the struggle.
Sweet video you're ripping! Keep the videos coming :)
Thanks man, another year of videos coming up 🤜🤛
@@midlife_mtb awesome! Stokedd
Nice one buddy - I've still not managed to do that horrible chute with the horrible entrance & massive root, you nailed it.
Cheers, its tricky that, Ive only done it twice and the first time I clonked my head on the tree between the chute n the drop, this time I got my head out the way 😆
I'll remember to duck once I get brave enough to give it a try!
😮 great!
Cheers!
😮
😁
Was there yesterday , first time ive ridden payrise and managed to follow my mate off the big drop on the 2nd run in 🤪 my god it feels big
Well done going of the big drop 👊, Im a bit off that one yet, its lke a massive step down! Watching someone bottom out on it didnt help, maybe near the end of the 2024 if I get a few more visits in...
Nice mate, windhill is a bit sketchy until you done the tracks a few times..
Cheers, yeah want to get back there more often this year and run em a few more times, recon I need a few more runs to get my speed n confidence up on em, its nice to have some feature just out of range for progression 👌, hoping for skills to do full payrise with the jumps by end of year
Nice one buddy!
Thanks man! 😁
Nice work bud 🤙, that drop is pretty tasty. I've only been to Windhill once, and my head wasn't in the game, unfortunately, plus my rear brake was playing up, so I didn't enjoy the day much 😕
Yeah not sure Id have got off it myself if a friendly local hadn't led me in, it feels a surprisingly light landing once your off it though, felt quite safe
Wicked video bud and some awesome riding 🤘 I am looking to pay Triscombe a visit possibly this weekend, any pointers on where to park and how to get to the trails etc? Cheers
Theres triscombe stone car park, best place to start for the trails, then its kinda tricky to describe, cross the road, go over a mound and follow a trail alongside the path, then you end up at the top of the hill where a few trails start, old grumpy + more traiils, Id recomend starting up here, after each fire road you cross it will be a bit steeper. Alongside road from the car park there is a trail that runs alongside and eventually leads to more trials on the right, ski run, fully stumped, theres more about too, narnia and others but a bit further from that car park. If you search triscombe DH route on trailforks that shows the bit Im describing near the car park. Theres more to find out there too. Theres usually someone sorting thier bike out in the car park you can ask
@midlife_mtb cheers bud, hopefully I can get down there over the next couple of weeks. I will have a bit of an explore and see what I can find but that gives me something to look out for at least. If there is people about I will ask where to go, the place looks wicked though 🤘
Favourite place this year ??
Oooh thats a tough question, i think at the begining of the year I would of said Bike Park Wales, but thats a particular type of day out, Scadson has been great for my progress and jump confidence, one of my faveourite trails to ride is in Kings Cliff, lately Ive been loving Woodbury Common, but the place I want to get back to most to explore again is Windhill. Im not sure that answers the question but I dont think I have a faveourite, variety is the spice of life!
