1978 Suzuki GS550E Carb Clean Rebuild
Cleaning/rebuilding the carburetor on my 1978 Suzuki GS550E. Including trying the aluminum fuel rail tee's from ebay. This should be a similar process for most of the Suzuki non-cv type carb's. GS550, GS550L, GS650, GS750.

Part 1: 1979 Honda XL100s Engine Removal
Просмотров 3153 года назад
Removing the engine from a 1979 Honda XL100s. Would be a pretty similar process from a XL100, XR100, XR80, XL75.
For everyone wondering. These carbs are VM22SS model. My fuel screw settings are at 2 turns, air screw setting at 2 turns as well. I would start with fuel screw at 2 screws and adjust pilot using the side air screws so you don’t have to remove the carbs every time to adjust it. Make sure your fuel screw needle tips aren’t broken off into their carburetor ports. My jet sizes: (I’m using pods) Main 80 Mid 50 Pilot 17.5 If you’re having trouble with idle, get a bottle of starter fluid and look for air leaks. I’m chasing one as we speak.
If this was meant to be a tutorial, I'd say this video isn't very helpful. A lot of the action happens hidden from the camera, and the background colours and lighting was bad. And, You should learn how to use Your voice! It would also be nice, if You put in som info on the different circuits - and the parts for those, if You have such knowledge... Model of carburettors, should always be mentioned. Stamped on the flange nearest to the engine. If You don't understand the importance of using the parts numbers and model numbers for references, You shouldn't be doing this stuff.
Why didn't You pressure test them, individually - before assembling? Did You just use the old gasket under the fuel inlet seat, there? Good luck with Your fuel levels! LOL 🤣
I bought the 1979 GS 550E new for $1900. I loved that bike!
AWESOME! Thanks, I hit the "Like" button.
I had this version when it came out in 79. The bike was obviously a dog but it was extremely reliable and a great beginner bike. Awesome 1st gear too , for practicing going up inclines
That looks like a lovely example of a great bike, and I am so glad that I finally managed to realise my teenage dream of owning one of my own. It needs a bit of work but is pretty solid and will hopefully be as enjoyable to ride as yours looks to be.
Does there belong air vent hose between no. two and three carbs? That small black one?
I'm rebuilding my '78 GS550 carbs at this very moment and I was wondering the same thing, as I didn't see one for it when taking it apart. I recorded myself taking it apart and looked back and there wasn't one, as well as when I looked at the parts fiche online it did not show one. So pretty confident there are only two small ones: between 1/2 and 3/4.
Hey would this xl100s head be able to fit on a xr100 2002 model?
And i see that your needs a little fiddling to get in neutral -same as mine. I suppose thats because of the linkage system for the shift lever. Anyway…your bike runs like a dream, and i enjoy the turbine like engine at low rpm. Fortunately i was lucky to get a brand new original exhaust system, and my bike has the right quiet turbine sound. Greetings from Norway. Minus 23C below zero 🥶 as we speak. No sign of spring yet. 😢
Tnx for posting this lovely ride. I have a GS550EN myself. Soon fully restored. Only the paintjob left.
Love that gruff yet smooth 4 cylinder melody.
Does your machine also vibrate a lot from 70mph? Greetings from Bavaria
What were your adjustments screws set at? I have the exact same bike and I'm sure mine are off from factory.
😂
Where did he get the fuel rail/ inlets
Got and bends/corners in America? All seems a little bit straight...
Mostly straights here. Thus why drag racing is prominent here.
Yup. Plus it’s why bigger vehicles are more prevalent here. We often have to travel for 4+ hours on the road to get anywhere interesting. Especially if your out west.
WHERES THE PISTON
I'm rebuilding one now, can't find an exhaust for any of these, you know of any aftermarket exhausts for other bikes that can fit on this one?
if I had a nickel for every roundabout in this video 😂😂
nice. I've got this exact bike, first bike I ever rode. I'm still trying to make it nice (while also thrashing it, because I can't help it).
Good video. I need fuel tubes for 2 sets of 78 1000 gs carbs. Where is a good place to get them? Im not good online but will if i have to. South florida. Thanks
Hi mate good video I have a question: how to set the adgiustment screw? Thanks in advance and sorry for my English 😁
Nice video. Do you have a link to the aluminum fuel tees from eBay? Were they new or used? Thanks
These were new ones. I can find the tee at this link, but it looks like the non-tee ones aren’t for sale anymore. Just make sure you choose the right model for what year bike you have. www.ebay.com/itm/284272769290
Thanks
how do you like the bike ? I am going to look at the same year and model on Monday
I think it is great! It is 43 years old and still runs like a top. There is also a lot of resources available online for troubleshooting/maintenance.
