    Hi, I come from a business/sales background trying to get into IT. A friend suggested going for the CISA. Looking into this led me to your channel as well as UnixGuy. I’ve been studying for the CISA and GRC Mastery as well (GRC mastery is much more engaging than the CISA manual). I’m still early in my journey…based on this video, would you reconsider studying for the CISA/GRC first, and pursue a more technical certification in development, networking, coding, etc.?

    جزاك الله خيرا Thanks for the video. Makes sense. If you want to really get into programming and can afford to, go to 42 London (or any other 42 where you are based). I study at 42 in Wolfsburg, and it really is one of the best programs to not only learn real software development, but to understand memory management, syntaxes of different languages, CI/CD, Git, and APIs. Their curriculum goes way beyond what a bootcamp could ever teach. We learn C and Cpp and the alumni basically learn javascript or java to the point of shipping software in a matter of days or weeks of training when they get into a job. It is an extremely hard program, but if you stick to it 8 hours a day, 6-7 days a week, you will leave as a versatile and strong software engineer after a year or so. It is free, and the school helps you find jobs in development as well. Your background would give you an advantage, and the training would give you an advantage, just like you said, basically in every domain of IT and especially within Cybersec.

    Hi Salih! Great video outlining the steps in an incident response process. Just to add to this, we have clients who use different ticketing systems like Jira service mgt, servicenow to raise a ticket to report incidents. That ticket gets updated with a timeline of what corrective actions they took to contain the incident and to assist with post incident review. Great job on the video 🎉

    • @cyber_salih
      @cyber_salih 8 дней назад

      Thanks Aimee, yeah that’s a really good point. It’s also important to keep all the incident information in one place (I.e. same ticket). Just makes things easier for retrospectives, investigation’s and review. I remember something kicked off and this guy sent a email and said it was forbidden for anything to be discussed about the incident outside the email chain because it will be investigated by a third party - I thought that was a good idea. I.e. 1 central place for all relevant comms. Otherwise every IM system and meetings etc gets pulled into scope of investigation.

    Your review is pretty detailed, thanks. At the same time, and unfortunately, it is impossible to find RUclips reviews that have not been sponsored by him. Pretty sad that a person that support people for entry level jobs (where not even an interview is guaranteed) creates a $500 course, which actually is not a recognized certification by the industry.

    • @cyber_salih
      @cyber_salih 16 дней назад

      Any cert doesn’t guarantee an interview or even help you get a job to be honest. Some may “Grab recruiter attention” like CISSP, CISA, CISM etc… but ultimately the real value is the knowledge gained by going through the process of studying and understanding the topics. The real value is always in the “Do you know enough to do the job” I.e. have you actually learned and internalised the concepts/skills to do well in the role. You can achieve that with any cert, despite it being unpopular. Some of the best GRC certs like OCEG certs are not popular - but will make you a great professional. Ultimately, the cert doesn’t matter. It’s about knowledge and skills.

    • @amigazo3972
      @amigazo3972 16 дней назад

      @@cyber_salih Thanks for the feedback. I share a part of your perspective. I believe more in the content and hands-on experience you can get with a course like this. But when you see such expensive price and sponsored reviews in every single cybersec RUclips channel, in social media, etc. Then you get really skeptic about what is going on. Don't you?

    • @cyber_salih
      @cyber_salih 16 дней назад

      @@amigazo3972 yeah I understand why you would be skeptical I think that’s logical. But to be honest every course has marketing/promotion budgets etc or lots of time/effort spent pushing it - ultimately knowledge has a price when it’s put together in a succinct course/book. At the same time everything in cyber/tech/AI related is free and available if you know where to look or are prepared to spend a lot of time researching. You can probably research every content area in every course and find everything for free - but it would just take a lot more time than having someone explain it to you or neatly organise the knowledge in a book/course or whatever. So I guess it comes down to the question of shall I invest money in it to save me time? Or do I have time to do this the hard and long way? Nothing wrong with either approach and tbf the free and hard way is probably more beneficial to self-study and research skills etc. If you are skeptical, reach out on LinkedIn and irl be happy to give tailored advice given your specific scenario - because your right GRC mastery may not be the best step logically considering where you are right now - happy to explore that with you and shed light on other options.

    • @cyber_salih
      @cyber_salih 16 дней назад

      Yeah it will certainly give you a better chance - just tailor your LinkedIn/CV for an audit role and make it clear your pursuing CISA and you may get lucky and land one before even passing CISA. Just be conscious of the fact that an entry level audit role may not pay as much as a network security role with your level of experience.

    I work as a technical writer in the info-sec industry right now. My entire job is centered around writing clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. It's all based on user manuals for software and setting up cybersecurity controls, but I have some internship experience writing internal policies. Would it be realistic to leverage into GRC without going back to school? Would I need certain certs? It looks like GRC people are basically just IT auditors with documentation, so I'm not sure if my documentation experience is enough to break into this career. Any advice?

    • @cyber_salih
      @cyber_salih Месяц назад

      Your experience could be enough to break in as you are already in the info-sec industry from what you have described, It would just be a pivot in to a different role. I would advise working towards CISA, CISM, or CISSP in the back ground while also applying for jobs and also networking etc. I think you've got a strong grounding for GRC and having worked as a technical writer. However, there is more to learn which is why I recommend those certifications/exams in the back ground. You don't necessarily have to be certified just learn the knowledge and try and pass the exam and that will go a long way to helping you get in. Good luck - reach out if you have any more questions.
