I find it strange that the singer’s name is often not mentioned in RUclips videos. There are hundreds of songs and arias on this platform but the the thing that sets them apart from each other is how they are sung and who they are sung by. This girl is lovely, who is she? She deserves the credit.

Oh my, I finally found the song I learned in voice lessons as a teenager from my Italian voice teacher. I remember the entire first verse even though I had no idea what it meant. She does a great job with it!

I believe that this is in Bb major. That is they key I sing in for this song and I use this video to practice.

Try singing it in Bb and if it is too high or low then just adjust the key.

I totally agree with that and this is also my view on the song and personal interpretation, but allow me to add that many interpretations are possible, you can bring a melancholic/serious tone to it as long as you make sense of it :) Cecilia Bartoli does a more heavy version and I don't have any doubt that she understands the lyrics..

I'm italian. It's not Pergolesi, but an Alessandro Parisotti's prank (XIX century). A perfect imitation of a XVIII's aria. Parisotti was probably gay. In the the text a young man, not a woman, spoke to a shepherd who loves him!
I'm a contralto and like to sing this too. I change soletto to soletta, and from research I did I believe the text was older, if not the music, and it should have been Silvio not Silvia, because it's talking about what men typically do, then the singer says they won't follow men's advice/example. The image of choosing a beautiful rose also conventionally fits more logically with a woman.
