Welcome to Horseshoe Canyon in Canyonlands National Park (Utah), home of the most significant ancient rock art (now referred to as storied rocks by Native Americans) in North America. The petroglyphs and pictographs in this canyon are otherworldly and some believe were painted as early as 4000 BC based on finding clay figurines in the area with similar designs that have been carbon dated. Colorado Transfer Trail - Flat Tops Ep. 4
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.9 месяцев назад
We have Northern Colorado's iconic 4x4 Transfer Trail in our sites on this adventure as we drop down from the majestic Flat Tops Wilderness towards Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The Transfer Trail is rated difficult by Fun Treks and OnX Offroad, but what makes it so difficult is the sheer amount of water and mud found on the trail after a storm (or probably after the snowmelt). On this adventure,...

After having to ditch our last Colorado Flat Tops 5-day overland route due to an unexpected illness, we loved this area so much we just had to return to finish out the adventure. SO BEAUTIFUL THANKS FOR SHARING IT WITH US ❤ S AFRCA
Thanks so much for watching! Glad to have some viewers from South Africa!
What kinda roof rack do you have ?
It’s an Eezi Awn K9 roof rack. Very pleased with it!
@@xpadventure thank you for responding!! 🙏🏽
What tire size you guys have on T4R?
I’ve got the 285/70R17’s. Basically 33’s.
good job, try wilbur next
Thanks, we’ll check it out!
When my palms start sweating while watching a video, I know it’s treacherous. I lived in GNP for a summer, but never had a chance to hike Reynolds. Nice hike!
Thanks! Yes, I can still feel my heart rate rise whenever I watch that video and relive those moments.
I ben ther
It’s a great place, isn’t it?!
We were just wondering where you guys were. Great that you're back. Now get on that cookbook!
Thanks for being such loyal followers! We’re getting closer on that cookbook. 😀
Great video! What a cool place.
Thank you! Yes, it’s turned out to be one of our favorite adventures this year so far.
Amazing video, great work! Question for ya, what size goodyear wranglers are those on the 4runner?
Thanks so much. Those are 285/70R17’s. I have a 3 inch lift.
You all are climbing up the mountain on loose rocks. Is that even a trail?
It’s not really a trail you’d find on a map or something like AllTrails. It’s more of a route that’s been marked out on mountaineering guidebooks.
what time of year is this?
Labor Day last year. It’s a great time to go because the mosquitoes are dead.
the irony of saying your on mars without leaving earth, since nasa mars rover crews have been photographed in such areas, your tax dollars funding the biggest fraud perpetrators in history..!!
It’s interesting how Hollywood has partnered up with the government over the years to create propaganda.
Wow😮
💥ACTION!💥💋ADVENTURE!💋 💀DANGER!💀Its just a vacation for you.
Thanks for commenting! Yes, we do love that action and adventure, don’t we?!
Your videos are great, beautiful scenery. To ease some of the bumpy try letting some air out of your tires. Start with 20 lbs in each tire. Get a small air compressor to refill the tires when done wheeling.
Thanks so much! Yeah, we have an ARB air compressor under the hood and usually take the tires down to 15-18 psi depending on the terrain.
@@xpadventure Yeah about 5 minutes after I sent that suggestion, I saw on one of your videos that you were airing up those tires. But I was too late and had already sent my reply. Love your videos and content. Your wife should create a Cookbook for sale. Her recipes look delicious! Anxious to watch your next video! Maybe we will see you in the Swell one of these days! Last time I was there I camped at the Little Grand Canyon, was really cool waking up on the overlook! Buckhorn Wash was really cool with all the Indian Artwork and Dinosaur print!
Another beautiful and great adventure - glad Evan is doing alright!
Thanks Lorrie!
Every time I think I want a drone, a video like this pops up. You aren't the only channel I've watched this week that had drone issues. Sorry for the loss. Thanks for the video. It's been awhile since I was in that area.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, losing a drone sucks. I had insurance thankfully but it the deductible was still pricey. I think you can do just fine without a drone!
Great adventure. Sorry about the drone. Glad your son is ok.
Thanks, definitely appreciate it! Thankfully we were able to replace the drone as I had it insured.
We did the same trip over memorial weekend amazing landscape. check it out bctadventures
Did that in a VW Bug !
That would actually be a blast!
Can’t wait to go back!
Looks like a good spot to test skid plates!
There are some hairy spots!
Well done to each of you. You knew where you needed to stop. I have been up Reynolds Mountain maybe 16 times and each time is amazing. The rock is rotten for sure. Thanks for using my book as well. Blake Passmore from Climb Glacier National Park. Congrats on climbing one of Glacier’s iconic peaks!
Wow, thank you Blake! Your climbing book was so invaluable. I love Glacier, I grew up in Columbia Falls and have had the chance to climb a couple peaks but now I live in Utah and usually only get a short time up in MT during the summers. Any other peaks with a similar difficulty (or less) that you would recommend climbing?
Pollock is super cool and has way less horrible rock. Siyeh is another really cool climb.
Omg I don’t think I can do that.
My wife says there’s something wrong with my brain because I’m not too afraid of heights. I thinks she’s probably right. 😂
My home sweet home go up there all the time
You live in such a beautiful place!
@@xpadventure Yes I do I live in the little town of New Castle which is considered the gateway to the Flat Tops and I was born at Buford which is on the other side my dad had Meadow lake built in 1963 and I sent most of my growing up days back and forth in that area
The goats shouldn't give you any trouble. Just step a few feet off the trail and let them pass. I've had them pass by on the highline trail where there is basically no where to go but stand off to the side and watch them walk by about an arms reach away.
Yeah, they were good for the most part. Some tourist got too close to one of the kids and so the Billy goat was getting agitated and his hair was all standing up. They usually let humans pass just fine but here in Utah some dogs get gored every year.
I did this about 10 years ago. I'm not terrible with heights, but wouldn't say I love heights either. I didn't have any issue with it, but can see how some people would, especially if you're not comfortable climbing. Route we took looked very similar to yours, I don't remember the top being as bad, though. But, it was 10 years ago. View at the top was unlike anywhere else I've ever been. Fantastic.
Thanks Trevor! The views are the best. We did the Highline trail in Glacier this summer and that was fun. We hiked up to the Grinnell Glacier overlook which was totally worth it. Have you done in other peaks or fun hikes in GNP?
Hi thanks for the video , I m planning a trip to Colorado on Sep , however I did not find so much info for the blair mountain trial. is it possible for a stock 4*4 trundra to reach blair mountain overlook ? thanks in advance
Yes the road going up is a bit rough in certain spots but if you pick your lines you should be fine.
14 times i summited that peak.... in my opinion? the best summit view in the park. views of Lake McDonald, St. Mary Lake, Hidden Lake, the Garden Wall, and Logan Pass...... and the climb is as fun as any other (you can avoid an uphill scree climb, using it for descending). the exposure is exhilarating, yet fairly safe. Love this climb!!
I remember the scree field well. Took and hour to climb up and about 5 minutes coming down.
Thanks Jerry & Trevor. Are there any other great peaks to climb along the same level as Reynolds in the park? I was thinking Oberlin might be fun.
@@xpadventure Bishop's Cap and Pollock are fun. and yes, the Oberlin climber's route is worthy. Bearhat is fun, despite it being a "yoyo" (up/down up/down up/down) from the Hidden trail. check out the Lookouts too....great views and access using horse trails (Swiftcurrent, Huckleberry, Apgar, Numa Ridge, etc.)
@@xpadventure Oberlin is fun. Great bang for the buck. A lot easier than Reynolds. There are two routes, one requires a small amount of scrambling, the other does not. Depending on how fast you move, Oberlin can be done up and back down in like 2-3 hours. View isn't as good as Reynold's, but for a relatively easy/short hike, it's pretty great.
Isn’t the whole idea of a soft shackle so u don’t have to use the D shackle 🤷♂️
As much time as we spend in the staircase we have only hit the winds like that once fortunately. We ended up in Escalante in a hotel. Must say though Cottonwood Canyon is one of our favorite places. Great Video!
Yes, that’s only the second time we’ve been “blown away” by such sustained winds that lasted more than a day. The first time we all hunkered down in our Springbar tent and it was finding a way to blow sand into our tent even though all the flaps were zippered shut. My dad had a nice 3-season Columbia tent and it snapped the poles. We finally gave up and went to a hotel in Green River. Fun times!
Great video guys, I know this is a bit older but we are heading up there on Sunday 😃 Might be kinda fun👍🤣
You are definitely going to love it! Bring mosquito nets and repellant.
Haven't been on it yet but definitely doesn't look that hard. Been on other switchbacks similar on private lands. Might take my truck down it
In reality it’s not that hard, especially if you’re used to rock crawling. It’s more mental than anything when you’re coming down “the steps” with the big drop off on one side and visions of rolled over vehicles who weren’t paying attention in your head. But the switchbacks themselves are easy.
12:39 There are companies that make usb powered bug repellant bug sponge heaters. You can buy the active ingredient and just recharge the mats often. If there is no wind, it's like a 15' bubble of protection. Maybe a few get through, but it works like a charm. Let me know if you want more details of my setup.
Thanks, that’s an excellent suggestion. Are you talking about the Thermacell mosquito repellant? We bought one a couple years ago but I’d totally forgotten about it since we don’t get that many mosquitoes in Utah. We’ll definitely bring it next time!
@@xpadventure nitecore has usb c versons I prefer but they are basically the same
What’s the full ingredients of your taco soup? @xploradventure
Nice video!
Thank you!
Lol, Toyota drivers. Black Bear is a piece of cake.
👍👍
Looks awesome out there!
It’s well worth it!
Nice! We came down from Cannonville toward Grosvenor Arch. Later on that trip we visited Page, and later realized that you could cross all the way🤷🏻♂️. There is a place called Willis Creek closeby
Yeah, we wanted to stop at Willis Creek too but it was so cold with the wind. There are plenty of places to explore and nearby Skutumpah Road also looks fun.
Thank you for the video you guys are great
Thanks Ethan!
Welp - sorry your adventure was cut short by the wind, but you still got some beautiful footage. Glad you didn't have wet weather. Cute little Yuki - loves the wind!
Thanks Lorrie-we were lucky it didn’t turn into rain. Lots of fun anyway!
I am watching your video from Silverton CO, where I was blown by the wind from Wager Pass above Animus Forks ghost town. Just missed a bad SxS rollover. Of course as soon as I check in to a motel the wind abated and skies cleared up. We planned on visiting Escalante but weather forecast for mid June looked way too hot….
I love that area of Colorado. That wind can get nasty just about anywhere - too bad your trip was cut short. Yeah, the June weather is starting off with a vengeance. Thanks for watching!
Awwwww. To bad you guys got..... well ...... winded out.
You win some, you lose some! 😁 we still had fun. Thanks for being a loyal follower!
Love the food parts.
Thanks! We got a cookbook coming so stay tuned!
@@xpadventure I would buy that.
What a great adventure!
Thanks for being a fan! We appreciate it.
We were up to Alstrom Point Labor Day 2021. We had a perfect night with no wind. Smokey Mountain road was closed so we to Croton Road up to Escalante. 130 miles and we never saw another person. We enjoyed your video. Thanks.
Thanks for commenting! Yes, I love how remote it is. We took Croton road on the way down and Smokey Mountain for part of the way back. The southern end of Smokey Mountain around the Kelly grade area is totally worth it if you get a chance to come back.
Great video. Where were you at 22:45?
Thanks for watching. That’s Cottonwood Canyon Road south of Cannonville. We show a bunch more of it in our next video.
Very well done. I’m headed that way next week, from Denver. So many choices, starting at Poison Springs Canyon.
Thanks, sounds like a great trip you’ve got coming up. I’ve always wanted to do Poison Springs Canyon so it’ll have to be something we do soon.
