Sailing Monastrell
Австралия
Добавлен 28 мар 2011
I had this idea to dump the mortgage, but I lived in such an awesome spot, and was really difficult to give up!!
I don't remember exactly how I came up with the solution to my dilemma, but I decided to sell my home, buy a yacht in Europe and sail her back to Australia! That was in 2016.
Monastrell was in Greece, so it began there, & after preparing her and familiarising ourselves with each other, we set off together and slowly worked our way toward Australia, picking up different crew along the way. We explored some awesome places in the Mediterranean, visiting numerous countries and islands along the way to Gibraltar, where we launched the longest passage to date, sailing down the African coast to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, then crossing the Atlantic to Saint Lucia in the Caribbean! We had 2 seasons in the Caribbean before flying back to Australia late 2019, then Covid hit!..now I'm back🛫⛵️🏝☀️💪😁

After being thrown out of Tobago by Immigration, we begin the second attempt to get back to Chaguaramas Trinidad, via Grande Riviere to resolve the issue. After turning back from our first attempt to sail to Grande Riviere, because of a combination of strong current, poor weather conditions, and me not feeling confident of making it before dark, we attempt it again, this time was completely dif...

I’m still editing footage from the passage from Tobago back to Trinidad after being told by immigration to leave🥴🫣🙃 In the meantime here’s a short vid of pure sailing joy🥳What a delight to sail on Jeffs beautiful Grand Soleil 62 again, she is so quick through the water. She's just been launched again after a few months on the hard, so a sea trial was required. Only a couple of minor issues need...

After being thrown out of Tobago by Immigration, I begin the journey back to Chaguaramas via Mt Irvine and Grande Riviere, however, a combination of strong current, poor weather conditions, and me not feeling confident of making it before dark, I make the decision to turn back to try again the following day! On a positive note, I catch a couple of Kingfish using the new lure🐟🐟 Please like if yo...

Immigration throw me out of Tobago😱😏 Ep71

I get thrown out of Tobago within hours of arriving, in spite of being given the go ahead by immigration and customs in Chaguaramas Trinidad🥴😜 I was not given the required paperwork to enter Tobago, so they insisted I return! Fortunately I got to do my eye hospital appointment in Scarborough, and had a dinghy tour of Charlotteville before leaving! Can’t wait to return, Tobago is gorgeous🥰⛵️🏝🐠🐬🌤...
An anxious single handed passage from Trinidad to Tobago Ep70

After close to four and a half years I do my longest single handed passage to date. I must say, it felt a little daunting, especially with the knowledge that friends had lost their boat less than a year before, when they ran aground on the rocks shortly after arriving at Tobago😱 Please like if you enjoy this video, share if you think someone else might too, and subscribe if you haven't already....

This is a re-post as I accidentally deleted this video🤪 We watch as approx 200 boats make an escape to Trinidad from Grenada and further north, avoiding a direct hit from Hurricane Beryl! I spend the day before with Errol and his family at a beautiful Chacachacare, then after dropping back at Chaguaramas, I return to take refuge there while the edge of the storm passes by Trinidad and Tobago! After an enjoyable but rolly overnight stay, and a little exploring at Chachachacare, Bong and I buddy sail back to Chaguaramas. Bush fires in Trinidad🔥 & single handed buddy sail to stunning Chacachacare💪⛵️💨Ep63

Although I began very young and have sailed most of my life, most has been done on off the beach dinghies and cats! Big boat sailing/racing was done in harbours and coastal sailing around islands, with land always in sight! When I first began this adventure in Greece in 2017, it was rather daunting, it took time to build confidence in both myself, and Monastrell! But confidence and trust in eac...

Real Caribbean with all the conveniences. Sorry about immigration
So many strings !
Bellissima barca, complimenti! Navigarci deve essere un sogno.
The beautiful twin island of Tobago...Trinidad is my birth place. Thank u for visiting. Sorry u had issues with Immigration. U definitely need to visit again🇹🇹❤️
Thank you, I will definitely visit again👌😁
I went there as a little child in maybe 69,70 I remember being scared of the lepers. I live in Trinidad and I have never been back since .
Wow, it would’ve been amazing to see back then😊
Good vibes ,watching from Trinidad .
Awesome...Thank you Richard👌😁
Well don't feel bad. Immigration in this country is staffed by the dumbest laziest most racist bunch of assholes in the world.
Well, I can't comment in that regard🧐 however, I must say some have been really friendly and helpful 😁
@bruce3077 well, don't give out their names or they'll be fired for spoiling the reputation of the immigration department.
If your'e not joking, that's disturbing!
Yeah man nice video and it seems like you guys escaped one potential horror and that's the manchineel tree growing on the beach and all over the island , it's very toxic..
Thank you, I trust the quality of my vids will improve as I continue you learn better filming and editing techniques, which is happening organically😉 Fortunately Cyn was aware of the dangers of the trees, being poisoned by them doesn’t sound pleasant at all🥴 We probably dodged a bullet😌
The sea is majestic
It sure is👌😎
The scenery is beautiful
Yes, it’s very beautiful!
thanks for sharing.
You are most welcome! Thank you for watching😊
Great video. Love it how you talk us through your actions and choices. keep it up and have a great time.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it🙏😊
Excellent video! About Grande Riviere, it's French so it's pronounced, grand rivier.
Thank you🙏😊 and nice to know the correct pronunciation now😉😎
I hope you attended the Blue food festival in Bloody Bay while you were in Tobago
Actually no, I didn’t attend it, but I do intend to visit the bay😊👌
cool
i prefer boats than planes
I prefer boats than planes also😅
Ì love the sea ....❤
Great to hear👌
Wonderful Video Bruce! I Love the way you catch the atmosphere of the landscape and combine it with beautiful music 🥰☀️
Thank you Silli for your kind words of encouragement🙏🏻🥰🤗😌
Video quality is very good but video views are very low. Because your channel and videos are not proper SEO optimized.
Ok. Thanks 🙏🏻😁
The apt james was way better but all boats are great in my opinion
I may be biased but personally I like the external look of the Buccoo Reef more, however from my observations the APT James has a better quality of finish🤔 But like you say both a great👌💪
Thats one of Sailing Millenial Falcon's videos - not original content !
Apart from them up the lighthouse, it’s all my original content😊
How did you fear during the Hurricane. Were you still in Trinidad
Thanks for asking, all good👌I was at Chacachacare, along with about 28 other boats that came down from Grenada!
@@bruce3077 great, hope to see some video of that
It's coming 😉😁
Love these vessels. Have travelled to the Channel Islands and France many times on InCat vessels. Condor replaced the UK Channel islands route with an Austal built design, not as good as the InCat originals
Cool, they are amazing vessels, I lived in Hobart for 30+ years, and actually saw Buccoo Reef leave for Trinidad😊
L👀Ks like an InCat from Hobart, Australia.. 🇦🇺
That’s exactly what it is👌😊
Hello, I am Norman from Germany, Berlin. I plan to,buy a boat when I am retiered, in around one year. I am interested in that model you have. Are you happy with this? Can you measure the lenght of the benchs in the cockpit. Is it 2 meter or less? Thank you for an answer. Best wishes for your tour, Norman
Hi Norman, apologies for the delayed response😌 That's exciting for you, I hope it's everything you imagine it to be! Will you just sail locally, or will you travel? No boat is perfect, but overall I've been very happy with Monastrell! She's nicely laid out, very comfortable to live aboard, fun to sail, and so far has kept me and others safe. Having said that, there are some things you need to look out for before buying! The cockpit benches are 170cm long and although it would be nice to stretch out fully, they are an acceptable length for 😊 All the very best to you😁
Hope the hurricane isnt treating you tooo bad bruce
Thank you, wev'e been very lucky with very little effect from it🙏🏻😌
When was that fire Bruce. We saw a smoke rating but thought it was a mistake. Totally oblivious
Hey Cyn, they were in March!
You’ve captured it so beautifully Bruce, the serenity of just us in a lone anchorage and the beautiful desolation of the leper hospital. What a fantastic day that was. Good friends having adventures together.
Thank you Cyn, it was a wonderful day for sure🙏🏻😁
Those interested in going with the fast ferry, please ensure you have meds to suppress nausea or motion sickness.
Good advice, the motion of the ferry when there is swell would definitely make some people nauseous👍😊
Hey maybe ill wave at you when youre sailing close to scotland bay..im usually in chaguaramas
Cool, I'll certainly make sure to wave back 👋😉😁
Did you see any ghosts. The word on the street is that island is haunted
I've heard that...but no ghosts...maybe they only come out at night😰🫣😄
@@bruce3077 you may have to camp on the beach at night to meet a few ghosts.
Hmmm..🥺🤔😨😅
Wow is right. Lucky bugger😽
It's an awesome spot Peter that seems to be a well kept secret🤫 A bit like Tassie was all those years ago😁
Super footage Bruce- captured its beauty. And great to meet you.
Thank you Cyn for your kind words 🙏🏻 Great to meet and hang out with you guys😊
Hi Bruce👋 Susan & Martin here on Shenemere. Great to see you on the water again & sharing your incredible footage🙏🏼 we really enjoyed hearing your voice again and following your adventures XO keep up the amazing work
Thanks guys for your kind words...it is nice to be on the water again for sure!! I've been enjoying your vids also👌😁 Where will you be for hurricane season?
Great spot…
It certainly is👌😁
Enjoying your videos Mate. Nice job on the keel and rudder. S/V Seaesta Blue (2009BO46)
Cheers, glad you’re enjoying them, and thanks for the positive feedback🙏😁
Nicely done why is the chest cam stuttering? wondering if you should try a faster microSD card in that camera?
I did explain in the description that I accidentally must have had the GoPro set to time lapse, then had to slow it down in editing, hence the stuttering😊 Hopefully that's what occurred, and not GoPro defaulting to time lapse on it's own😜
@@bruce3077 LOL I missed that - thank you for the video.. getting to terms with parking my 47foot as well. and have a tendency to back in.. love seeing how others do this stuff.
I don't pretend to be an expert, but as mentioned I do love the boat handling side of boating! At this dock I reverse in, because often there is a side wind that pushes the boat against the dock, so it's easier to leave it facing forward😊 I'm also interested in how others do it👌
And no wind….
No to little wind helps,...but I've done it before and since with wind! One time in the Med, it took 3-4 passes/attempts with an off dock quite strong wind, with not a soul around to help😅
Unassisted? You had a diesel engine! Next time try sailing in.
Next time has already passed, but I'd love to try that one 👌 Have you done it yourself?
Nice one Bruce, enjoyed the opening with boats I recognise launching. Big moment for you. What are your plans when you finally leave Trini?
Cheers Andrew, it was a huge moment! I have video of many more boats but not sure about Calypso🤔 I’m still planning to get into the Pacific, finances permitting, but in the meantime I’ll head north, maybe as far as Dominica, after I finalise a few things in Trini😊
Cool , that dinghy frame is a bit high , the wind will get under that in a blow , get it at deck level, much safer .
Totally agree David, I won’t be using it on passage, the dinghy usually sits upside down on the foredeck. I use the frame at anchor sometimes and the height means I can still open the hatch while getting some shade😊
Congrats mate
Cheers Jamie🍻😊
Gorgeous boat! Well done👏👏👏. Looking forward to your journeys. Fair winds.
Thanks Charles, she is gorgeous⛵️😍 I’m looking forward to some journeys too😉and I’ll be sure to share them here😁
Awsome Video Bruce! 😀This Island is absolutely amazing… trank you for sharing this adventure! 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Silli, it was amazing😎😱
How did you make it to the top? I’m here now and they are telling us that the very top is off limit since 2019
I love this ship
It is an incredible bit of technology!!
✔️ P r o m o s m
Cheers🙏🏻😊
14:16 Brasileiros: 😏😏😏🤪
This is awful, did you see a name on the fishing vessel, someone could have lost their life by such reckless actions, at least none of you were hurt. Illegal fishing is just a form of piracy with the equivalent lack of concern for other people or their property.
Thank you🙏 No we didn’t see a name, it was very dark and they often were shining a spotlight directly at us! I agree, they were negligent to do what they did, especially to cut the net and leave without checking whether we were sea worthy still, or not!! Definitely lives were at risk!
Great job with the keel, not enough people pay attention to this joint.
Thanks for the positive feedback Mike🙏🏻😊 I agree, and I've seen some pretty dodgy things during my extended stay on the hard, in this boat yard! Fortunately overall it appears, from my observations, to be a minority of boats, but still disturbing that some people will use boats with obvious defects below the water line, but most disturbing when its an obvious keel issue😱
why would you not just take the shrink wrap off before stepping
Good question👍 because it provides great weather protection, and the deck area acts as a bit of a outdoor storage area and workshop while preparing the the boat😊
@@bruce3077 Are you planning on launching her soon? If not why did you step the mast? Just curious. Thanks for responding!
Yes, I sure am, I'm hoping to be ready to splash end of this, or early next week🤞😊
