What was wrong with the original engines? They made the driving of 2CVs one of their most enduring experiences and now they have a soulless electric one. This is a monstrous corruption of their legacy designed by people who are jumping on the retro bandwagon. Give me an original 2CV with a galvanised steel or aluminium chassis and better safety features, I would buy it tomorrow. The rustiness of the originals were their downfall. I don’t want a modern experience of owning a boring replica on the inside or outside: I just want that glorious experience back of driving a 'real' car instead of this modern reproduction which looks and sounds hideous to me. A touch screen in a 2CV and capable of reaching 60mph in 8 secs by electric power is ludicrous to me who owned a Dyane and a 2CV. This is not a 'real' car but a designer replica of one and I feel it is a gross insult to the legacy of these cars.

Besides the sloppy AI generated presentation: A Citroen 2CV inspired new car for 30.000 Euro completely misses the inspiration of the original vehicle. The design was not meant to look good, it was meant to be an extremely cheap shell on a extremely comfort oriented suspension combined with cost effective production to meet the needs of low income farmers, freelancers and workers. Despite its little horsepower it was a completely 4 seat car with trunk and spare tire. I think the current citroen Ami actually resembles that spirit quite well - its construction is aimed at a useful, yet extremely affordable car. But - and this is where a 2CV inspired car could come in - the Ami has only 2 seats, 45 kmh maximum speed and a range of only 75 km. That is by far not enough to even match the specs of the ancient 2 CV, keeping away the vast majoritiy of potential buyers. With a longer wheelbase, a better suspension, a bigger battery ian Ami inspired car could be sold for double the price of the Ami and still get the attention of a huge cost oriented potential buyer group. But I think it should not look like a 2 CV retro design, as it wastes space with its hood and the attached fenders. That's where the current Ami shines.
