    Does Lexi Classify Neurotypical Athletes?

    • @waterprairie
      @waterprairie 9 дней назад

      Hi @NoahEats! Thanks for the question! LEXI doesn't do the official classification, but it does help viewers understand the different classes of para sports. According to the LEXI website, para sports classes are set based on the types of limitations an athlete might have in movement, coordination, vision, and intellect. I would assume both neurotypical and neurodivergent athletes would compete in the Olympics if they are not affected in any of these areas, and both neurotypical and neurodivergent athletes would compete as para sports athletes if they meet the qualifications for classification under the areas of limited movement, coordination, or vision or if their IQ meets the range to be classified as an intellectual limitation. Does that help answer your question? I appreciate your comment!

    • @waterprairie
      @waterprairie 9 месяцев назад

      Welcome to the channel! I hope you find other episodes that help you learn how to support your grandson and your son/daughter too. Many of the interviews are with parents who share what they've learned about advocating for their children at school as well as being able to ask for help from friends and family. Even if those families are facing different challenges, I learn from each of them and think any special needs parent can take pieces of all the interviews and apply those lessons to their own life. As I meet people in my daily life, I find that the lessons I'm learning during the interviews help me see others in a different light. I no longer assume a child is just misbehaving and instead ask myself if there is anything I can do to help them feel less stressed or if I can see a way to support their parent. It's been pretty eye-opening for me to hear the stories my guests have shared, and I hope others are learning along with me.

    Love this. Growing up I was ashamed to walk barefoot at the beach. Even today as an adult. I’m missing a couple toes, one of my legs is missing the fibular bone and a fused right ankle that is less developed than the other. So I hid in my shoes. Never wore shorts or dresses. This has lead to negative body image. My grandparents raised me and they were “old school.” Everything was a secret. I felt like an outcast most of my life. Learning to accept my body as God created me has proven difficult❤

    I just finished watching the whole entire episode and I enjoyed it. Haven't watched the podcast in a few months but definitely going to start watching it again. This episode definitely struck a positive chord with me since I got speech therapy in 1992/93 in the 4th grade and speech therapy as an adult in 2016/17 with Kate Boddicker in person. Speech therapy has done wonders for my speech impediment and although my progress wasn't perfect I made tremoundous strides in communicating in a normal tone of voice. It can be hard to do though when excited or upset, but otherwise I got better at modulating my voice. Thank you for the interview with Lenora E. :)

      I thought she did a great job with her book! My daughter has albinism too so this was personal for our family as well. If you need help finding the book, I have a link to the Amazon sales page on the main webpage for the podcast episode this was originally posted on at waterprairie.com/2022/11/27/books-on-disability-and-inclusion/
