You can enjoy the view of these mountains if you're riding a train, but if you're driving you have to pay attention to the roads. Plus the roads might be at the base of the mountains so you can't see them but the railways are often far enough away that the scenery is pretty.

Chicago station looks pretty at Christmas~

Only been to Rheidol once, summer 1973. Had the apparent great fortune of seeing all three engines at Devil's Bridge. Beginners luck according to my group of friends who had been a number if times before and never seen it. 🤣🤣.

Well that was rather special. I spent a lot of time near steam in the 70's. Tyseley, Severn Valley, Paignton, and main line jaunts. Then I started work. Lol 🤣 🤣. I never made the Dart Valley as was sadly, but its one of my favourite video subjects now I've retired. I love the simple watch the scenery roll by, and the look at passing rolling stock in the sidings. Spotted one or two treasures lineside. A well spent half hour, thank you so much for sharing. 👍👍👍. Remarkable how people hiked this steep mountain instead of taking the train!

The cafe at the end has hot cocoa and hot sausage rolls and more -- yummy! Plus a gift shop.

Scones, jam, clotted cream, hot tea, and a relaxing train ride through the countryside! Sounds lovely!

The Abergynolwyn station has a lovely refreshment room where you can eat scrumptiously sweet, moist cakes and have hot and cold sandwiches and beverages, and shop for gifts. People also get off for a hike through the woods. I wished we had time to have gone walking, but we were there too late in the day.

Talyllyn is in Wales. This is the station where Rev. Awdry volunteered. He wrote the Thomas the Tank Engine stories, There's a museum dedicated to him in the corner of the station. There's also a lovely refreshment room downstairs with yummy fries.

There's a lovely historical museum near the Gwili station. It has a garden and tea room, too. Great day out -- museum and train ride.
