IS clipping one leg of the stock resistor really beneficial? That's so easy to do. But I don't wanna screw anything up. I'm fairly new to modding.

Dude! You made this video in 2017, it's now late 2024, and you may have saved my career! About 4 months ago, my pick started rotating. I tried different picks, different grips, different techniques, but nothing helped. Yesterday, I was coming to terms with the idea that my career was sunsetting. I watched this about 20 minutes ago, stuck some tape on a pick, and there is *zero* rotation after 20 minutes of playing! It doesn't change the thickness of my favourite pick, and I can hold it any way I wish while I focus on the music! I can't thank you enough!

Well.. if it sounds good to you, isn’t that the most important thing? Good stereo speakers from the 70’s and 80’s were made out of that same particle board. Just leave it. Save up for an AC15 or 30.

I was waiting for you to stop, yell "get off my yard!" and chuck the amp out of the room. To me, if it sounds good, I've seen much worse construction. Reference my Gorilla 30 watt bass amp - I've got it held together with Gorilla glue at this point, that sucker is absolute junk.

Your track might allow this, but most places state in their rules car must have everything equipped. You'll probably get away with the screws, but the nerf bar and top of the fuel tank are required. And they usually state the reciever must be in stock location. 🤷 anyone watching this best to check with your track rules.

They could have done a better job with the speakers too. Sounds honky and too bright. Didn’t like the EQ part either. The new Vietnam manufacturing is a total crap. I’ve got one recently and I regret it. My Marshall 10watt amp sound way fuller than this hollow box. :(

Yep you the man..I've been using Gorilla Snot..yep its a brand name honest. You only need a tiny amount ..works even better if the picks got recessed holes...but totally double sided tape be just as good. All those vids about holding your pick techniques are really total bollocks when all you ever really needed was something to stick the pick to your finger.

"2K2" means 2200 Ohms.

for a while i had to use sandpaper and crazy glue, I would glue a bit of sandpaper on each side (Herco heavy) and off I go, yes, it took a shitload of time doing 50 picks. then, somehow my strength in the pick hand came back, it was great, it lasted one year, now it's sandpaper time.

Hey Brian, I've been using this type of tape for quite a few years. I have Neuropathy and my pick tends to rotate between my thumb and pointer finger. It looks like you are using something similar however, I could never find tape that can easily be peeled. It looks like you found some with tabs that makes it easy. Is this correct and if so could you let me know the brand and type? Thanks Brian

This is one of those situations where any perceived difference in tone is completely in your head because your mod did nothing to affect the tone. Why you ask? Because the resister you changed out isn’t the NFB resistor, it’s a load resistor meant to protect the OT if the speaker comes unplugged. The NFB resistor is an SMT component that’s down on the main board. So you didn’t give the amp any balls at all. Lol I also find it funny how many people are commenting that this mod changed their tone. Sheeple mentality, I guess. If you put a 32k resistor in place of the 220, all you’ve done is effectively change the speaker impedance by about 1/5 of an ohm. Not enough to make any noticeable change to your tone. In other words, you don’t appear to know what you’re doing and you’re giving people really bad information with this video.

My car still has all the stuff on it that you took off here, plus a regulator and its only tipping the scales at 268g

I always see RC as another form of Motorsport and with Motorsport you're going to pay a pretty penny to be competitive. Especially with the stock/sec classes. Whether it be full size or model scale people always find a way to push the envelope and when that happens a cheap Class becomes really expensive. I think we just need to do a better job of cost control! Like instead of having just the spec motor with open timing and unlimited pop-ups. have a spec motor with fixed timing, spec ESC and blinking mode and spec tires! I would also say have spec gearing too but I know people like to complain about spec gearing so just let that be open. Then limit the hop-ups that can be used in the class. If people want to use the best everything they can do all that in mod class!

Researching for the term "Widowmaker amplifier" in Google, will show what this type of device is, and why it is so dangerous. They have killed people. The only transformer there is for output/speaker, so there is no power transformer. Without a power transformer, there is no ground. This is why they made them in plastic, to prevent the user to touch any metal parts while the device is on. By design, current flows through chassis on these types of models. Therefore, a three prong wire, grounded to chassis does nothing to protect from electrocution. The jack puts the user in contact with the chassis and the amp. Conversion of a Widowmaker amp like this requires adding an isolation transformer to provide some level of protection. As a radio it was safer because there was no user contact with metal or any parts of the amp. As I see it modified on this video, it is still extremely dangerous (even with a three prong power cable "grounded" to chasis) and could be deadly without adding an isolation transformer. Please feel free to research what I am saying in YT or any Internet search engine. Please stay safe.

Exactly why when I wanted to get into racing i started with a 1/10 Short Course truck (only real 1/10 class at my local 1/8 track- Epic Rc in New Port Richey- and looking to buy used for my first 1/8 ebuggy is the cost. Transponder alone is $130 per vehicle. Oof. Thinking the mentality of needing the latest and greatest with most average drivers when skill isn't even up to par yet is a choke point. Work friends that show interest have the interest quickly dissolved when the price of even a basic beginner setup is mentioned. Basic but still fast and fun spec class seem like a great idea, but I've never seen a spec class run anywhere that I've been. Would love to get my daughter involved in something like that.

Seems like the RD is cherry picking and favoring a certain mfg. How is the 71 NOT vintage? This is why I don't race RC anymore, politics, and control freaks. Last series I ran in was 2010, 10th OPEN (NO RULES) RC10 trans universal outdrives (short and long)RC10 CF uprights with stock shocks, on a CF flat chassis, short arms on the inside, long arms on the outside. 13 cell vintage NiCads, kyosho red with a bench wind, turning nearly 175k rpm, foam tires, and a bolink wingless. Made them brushless guys look stupid. Second weekend I won on all three tracks, and got banned. So that's that. I applaud your patience and long-suffering, I couldn't do it.

Just as a reminder to anyone doing this, if you wire one 5 ohm resistor in parallel to an 8 ohm speaker (I.e. between the the positive and negative terminals) that brings the resistance of the speaker down to 3 ohms. So if you want to maintain the proper total 8 ohm load to the output transformer, instead of a 10 ohm resistor inline use a 5 ohm resistor. If you put another 5 ohm across the terminals, total resistance will go up to 9.44 ohms which is close enough and slightly safer than 8 ohms.
