This video was made to try to help a commenter in Unveiling Elvis' February 1973 Fashion Mystery! about a two-piece suit Elvis was wearing in his Feb. 1973 Las Vegas engagement. In today's video, I talk about what I consider to be Elvis' last great tour. This tour took place in February of 1977 and Elvis is absolutely fantastic in this tour. When do you think Elvis' last great tour was? In these concerts Elvis was on fire and not just for 1977 I wish we had a full concert video from 1977 before the CBS special.

As Elvis continued his Las Vegas appearances he began to grow bored with them as they provided no challenge or room for a new show. Elvis' main goal was to always entertain the crowd since it's hard to entertain the crowd if you can't entertain yourself he would have fun and play around more. elvis' last truly great tour was his "in five days" tour dec of 1976 period.

I respect all the different opinions but the short tour at the end of 76 was the last hurrah for me. I thought February 77 was extremely weak. He’d given up on rehearsing and it showed! His voice was mostly poor and he sounded like he couldn’t be bothered. I thought that the spring tours of 77 were better than February 77.

Those leather (dear skin) suits were worn in Vegas in 1974, not 1973. They were made by North Beach Leathers, a leather clothing shop in San Francisco. Many singers and celebrities wore these suits in the 70’s such as Tom Jones, Glen Campbell and Jackie Wilson. They could be bought off the rack from the store or custom made. Besides the off white versions that were seen on stage in Vegas in 74. There is a gold or light bronze suit with what looks like wine glass designs on the front that he wore as street clothes when he arrived at College Park Maryland in 1974. You can find pictures of Elvis in this suit posing with police officers. Also the long rainbow fringe leather jacket and the silver with blue flames leather jacket that Elvis wore off stage were North Beach Leathers jackets. The 2 piece white suit at the end of your video was not leather and was designed and made by Bill Belew and worn in 1975. It was one of about 5 or 6 two piece suits that were actually sleeveless jumpsuits with jackets on top of them. White or light blue silk shirts were worn under the sleeveless jumpsuits. That all had belts made for them as well but Elvis never wore the belts with them or ever took off the jackets on stage. The belts made for those suits were worn with other suits. For example, the belt for the black with red scallops on the shoulders suit was work with the Gypsy suit. The belt for the white suit shown in you video was worn with the blue rainbow suit in 1976.

The Adonis suit is i believe the inspiration for the recent Elvis funko pop which was incorrectly called the Pharaoh suit
2 times,He did 2 shows a day in Vegas,this don't make sense
I would say the red one is my least favorite
So he only did like 100 concerts in the 70's ,lol He had to wear them alot more than 9 times each
@@paulorlando5877 So he did do about 1189 concerts from 1969 - 1977, this particular video doesn’t include his five most worn suits, but a big portion of this includes concerts mostly in Vegas where we don’t know what suit he is wearing and then of course you have to factor in all the two pieces he wore as well. :)

How does this relate to 2/73?
Because the commenter said that's when the picture was from. We had to get theoretical because that engagement has very little suit data.

@@GabeBoehElvis August/Sept 74 is the time when they were worn. However, he had one with Black Fringe and straight legged pants worn on 3/18/75 OS only.

I saw him in March of 1974 and it’s indescribable, it really is!! I was 16 and have never attended another concert before or since! I didn’t see the point bc Elvis gave His All in person!! I’m so Happy I’ve found your channel!! Idk what took so long!! ❤❤❤
Gabe, my 15 year old son wants to participate in the Tupelo Youth ETA competition next year. Any advice? Where do you get your jumpsuits? Thank you!
I get my suits from two places, either b&k (b-k-enterprises.com/jumpsuits) which made the suits for the Elvis movie, or pro elvis (proelvisjumpsuits.com/collections/custom-suits-belt-package-1). My advice would be, understand you will have stage fright the longer you go the better you are at hiding it but right before you go out you will be scared to death acknowledge those feelings and tell yourself get to work when the audience sees you. Next realize that almost no one can sound exactly like Elvis try your best but realize too that you will get better over time it's just part of the process. Finally the most important part of doing what we do be gracious no matter the result on and off stage, Tupelo is great, I started out in the youth competition there and its important to remember when a fan comes up to you nothing else matters, there have been times I was in the middle of talking to my friend or carrying bags out of the dressing room drop what you are doing say hi take a picture and sign what they want to be signed because without them none of this would be possible. I hope to see you guys in Tupelo next year, if the schedule is similar to this year I won't be able to watch the youth competition but if you see me at the arena come up and say hi!
@@GabeBoehElvisThank you for that thoughtful response! We had such a blast in Tupelo this year that I can see us making it an annual event in our family. All the ETAs were just so amazingly generous with their time.

I was 15 years old in 1976 when my mother and I seen Elvis in concert at the Capital center in Largo Maryland outside Washington DC

Yeah, Neil actually wrote it when he was kicked out of a session for Elvis to record. Elvis later found out that this happened and apologized, but I don't think there were any hard feelings since Neil wrote one of the greatest songs of all time.

@@davidcrowder5679 Correct there were jumpsuits Elvis didn’t like. He only had a hand in designing 1 jumpsuit the aloha suit. Now if he liked a suit like the phoenix (it was actually supposed to be a zebra originally) he would request different variations. So while no one picked what he wore someone did pick what design a suit had and if he didn’t like it after trying it out he wouldn’t wear it. Also the most hated suit is the embroidered flame suit he thought it looked too flashy

Since Gabe didn't say which one Elvis didn't really like, let me throw this into the discussion: I read in one of the biographies that the suit Elvis liked the least was the flame suit. The book said Elvis thought it was "too gaudy."

@ballybunion9 Not so much the suit, which I didn't really care for, but his hair didn't look good while wearing this suit. It was too long, bangs cut too short, sideburns out of control, etc.

I was fortunate to see Elvis perform in Springfield Mass in the summer of 1975. A close friend of mine said he hated the man so on a friendly bet I said I'd make the run with him to see the band Boston if he'd go to an Elvis concert. Elvis put on a fantastic show (as admittedly did Boston) and he came out with a whole new appreciation for him and his music. He agreed that his performance was Electric. Nearly 50 years later he still listens to his music. When I was dating my girlfriend (now wife) we had tickets for his 1977 show in August at the Hartford Civic Center. Sadly Elvis passed 5 days prior to the concert. She had never seen him and I was building him up prior to the show . His loss was truly devastating to the fan base. I wanted to keep the tickets, but before I told her to hold onto them she had already turned the tickets back into Ticket Master for a refund. I still asked her to marry me anyway. 😉
