Fixing Temperature Control and Mode Select on a Subaru Legacy with Dual Climate Control
Просмотров 25 тыс.5 лет назад
Passenger side was blowing cold air regardless of temperature it was set at. Also the mode was stuck blowing at face and I couldn’t switch to defrost or floor. Swapping the control modules/servos from a salvaged car fixed my issue. Which could also be because the heater core may be partially block blocked.

Throwing codes P0302 P0304 P0306 (cyl 2,4,6 misfire). EGR, fuel pressure, PCV, MAF all good. No vac leaks. New spark plugs. Runs fine for 100 miles after ECU reset. Compression was low at 150psi for all 6 cylinders so might have just been a bad gauge. Logging showed AVCS cams advancing normally: WOT advance to 40 degrees both left and right till 4k RPM where they taper back off to 0 degrees at ...

08' EZ30R, Raptor Headers,Custom Y-pipe with Magnaflow HFCs and 12" Vibrant bottle style resonators, Borla Cat-back with Resonator Delete. Borla's sounds much much deeper and more refined. The small resonators up front attenuated most of the rasp at 2.5K to 4K rpm. Bought the Borla's with the resonator deleted. May throw one in mid-pipe but for now, I love it!

As per a request. Here is an extended in-car and short drive-by clip of my 2008 Subaru Legacy 3.0R 5EAT auto with Perrin axle-back exhaust. I don't usually drive this... erratic, it was more or less for the video. :) OOH also, one big thing to note is that I just finished doing an audio install, so I went ahead and put down some sound deadener. I did some in the trunk and trunk lid, all four do...

There is some drone while cruising or on highway. Edit: Here is a Longer in-car/ drive-by clip of this car/exhaust ruclips.net/video/_Jb_bixHjhk/видео.html
I have an ‘05 Outback XT with a similar issue. After replacing all A/C components: Compressor, Condenser, Evaporator, Expansion Valve, etc., now the Climate Control Unit is not turning on. I verified the fuses are good and A/C Relay is good too (clicks). I checked with a test light and it does turn on for a couple of pins on the connector that supplies power to the HVAC unit, but it won’t turn on.. What do you think it can be??
How did you do that .
I thought this was a fix for me to make an old rack work on a new boost MRB. have attempted a similar mod and abandoned it. The sway shown in your video does not adequately show the forces involved when the bicycle would be riding on a vehicle. If you pull upwards onn the bicycle while holding the rack to the floor with your foot my guess is it would come loose. It requires the bolt to securely hold the bicycle in place. Also, the force required to push outward on the fork lowers to sufficiently "hold" the bike, is what ultimately put me off. This cannot be good for the fork lower.
You may be interpreting the mechanism wrong, but I’ve done full brake lock tests in a turn, slaloms, and not a single person out of the 60 sold have ever complained about a bike coming off or damage. The bike does not simply come off like you mention, brother. Feel free to buy it and critique it if you have a 15x110mm Boost fork. Ride hard.
Do you have to change the drivers side if it's stuck on cold
Yup
experiencing no ac climate lights cant use the dial but the AC blows perfect cold air so basically stuck on like level 2 or cut cant change the temp because the screen is black all other lighrs work even the radio lights work fine except that lower screen
Grab a used one online and swap it out. The soldering on the back of the screens go bad.
That's great and all but what about if you get no display and none of the controls work?
There’s probably a bad solder on the back of the display. You can pull it out and check the contacts for a crack or get a new lower display unit. Search around for it and you should find some good info for the fix.
@@shabbasay I've tried 3, so it's not an issue with the module or display.
I know this video is older, so I don’t know if you still monitor comments. My temp is stuck on hot on the drivers side. Is it just as easily accessible by taking out the driver side center panel? Only temp module there?
Sorry for the late reply. But yes that is where that is. Around where your right knee or calf sits up against the center trans hump panel.
Hey, I pulled out my glove box, and watched the servo as I change the temperature on the passenger side, and it seemed to still be working by that. I mean it moves. Is there anything else that can affect temperature on a single side?
There’s three servos and on the passenger side, and one one the drivers side. If the passenger side is the one not changing it could also be an indication of poor circulation of coolant in the heater core. Usually from a block but could be air pocket.
Guys, please use a digital thermometer and check both left side and both right side and see if they measure the same degrees. Mine differ in about 2 ~ 4 degrees celsious (whatever the temperature i set), i wonder if it's normal or within the tolerance.
Could be blockage in the heater core
Hi Shawn, are you doing another batch of these anytime soon? I’d love to get my hands on one
Just started another production run, I’ll post the updated eBay link soon. Thanks

Just ordered one. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS!!!
Hello Sam! very good solution. I'm interested. How can I get one?
Hi Shawn. Just wondering if you have anymore of these on the way? I would love to grab one.
I just began another production run!

That one you change pass side? That’s make the pass get cold air and warn driverside
Lower one controls the passenger side cold hot temp. My got stuck on hot.
Hey Shawn, any chance of another batch or updated order link? Very clean solution!

How much do the headers go for?
Check out raptor headers for the EZ30r. If you’re in the US id be willing to sell you my headers and the necessary custom y-pipe for your factory ones plus cash.

Hey Shawn, great solution. How do I get hold of one?

can you tell me if the motors are all the same for the blend door and the vent positions? i could then just get one motor and use it at what motor is bad. also i have a 2005 legacy i could not hear your year thanks
The servo units are different. I have a 2008 with dual climate control
So you just replaced them with used ones? I got confused when you said I swap them out/some people try to replace them.
Yup I picked up a used one from someone parting out their car
Thanks for the video, I couldnt find out which actuator motor went to what, my Subaru is just not blowing hot air out the passenger side. I didnt know which acuator did what thanks to your video I feel confident going in and changing out the right acuator. Which for me would be the bottom one that controls the climate on the passenger side. Thanks for the helpful video buddy
Hi Shawn, excellent solution. Thank you. Do you need two of your adapters per bike rack? One for each side?
Thank you! Nope, just need one adapter/bike. I am currently out of stock, but if you want want one I can get a new order sent to the CNC mill.
@@shabbasay Thanks for what your doing to help your MTB community during these weird times! Let me know how to move forward with two. I have two WB200 trays, one for my wife’s and my MTB bike. @@silved2 Hey D, so I’m currently out. But I can put it for another set to be machined. You might have to wait till mid to end of January. If that’s good with you, I’ll get the order in ASAP!
Hey Shawn! I need two of these. Do you have extras?
Let me know how they work out for you!
Hi, thanks for this, really helpful. Mine now working but the lights on the unit no longer show. Any ideas? Is it just a light failure or more complex. Thanks.
Glad it helped. Hmm sounds like either a bad solder or loose connector
i have this issue but on the opposite side. My drivers side is constantly putting out heat and wont get cold. AC works great on the passenger side. Is there a drivers side blend door actuator?
There is under the steering wheel way far back near the firewall I think
Bro... Have u regcognize wat cause ur driver side blowing hot ac while pasenger side cold..? It happen to me now and i still can figure out wat cause of it
@@fadzriabdullah8555 my ac still works on the passenger side, so i can change temp. drivers side blend door actuator seems to be the culprit. got quoted 50 bucks to put in the new unit, but then they canceled and said it would be more. so now i am stuck with a new actuator on the back seat lol
I changed one of those out and when I put it back together, my climate control won’t power on anymore. It worked fine prior to me changing the servos. Did you experience any of that ?
I did not. Sounds like something wasn’t plugged back in or seated correctly.
@@shabbasay I ended up selling the car but found that the power unit had went out somehow lol
Do you have a high pitch note/possible exhaust leak around 3500rpm? Trying to figure out if it's normal h6 noise or if I have a leak
high pitch as in like metallic raspiness?
Is it the same type of actuator for the blend door and mode or are they two different types?
They are two different modules. Internal stop points on the rotation are different I think. Not sure if that's what you were asking
Shawn yeah that’s kinda what I was thinking anyways. Where did you end up buying the parts?
Did you end up fixing the problem and if so what was it ? My liberty is doing the exact same thing but no codes are coming up if anyone can help that would be appreciated
Daniel Erich Yeah man. So I was monitoring perimeters in RomRaider and saw my left AFR readings oscillating between -10 to +10 by the millisecond.... decided to swap my upstream AFR sensors the next day from left to right... everything swapped over to the right bank. Swapped it for a spare I had laying around and fixed it.
Shawn I have already replaced both right and left bank 1 scensors , but there is no codes showing , so did you replace the rear scensors also ? I have not done that
Daniel Erich I didn’t have codes either. Also those AFR’s are very expensive and very specific unlike the rear O2 sensors. Stick with OEM only for the front O2 sensors. The downstream O2 sensors shouldn’t affect fueling too much but those are cheaper. Quick Cheap DIY stuff to check in order: -MAF cleaning/connection -Air leaks -exhaust leak -front AVCS OCV (swap left to right and can clean if needed) -plugs/coils -grounds to engine More thorough tests: -compression test (will tell you if bad gasket or bad timing skipped cam tooth) -leak down test (will show if bad head gasket or bent/worn valves this will) -check timing on chain for skipped tooth -worn or bad internal AVCS cam sprocket. All this info has been compiled from LEGACYGT.COM mostly from the 3.0R Misfire thread.
So you don’t think it would be the rear scensor? Sorry for all the questions but my car has been at the mechanic for a very long time as they can’t find a lot of it’s problems , I bought genuine o2 scensors both left and right at the front
Daniel Erich I understand. Cam shaft position sensor or even knock sensor could be possibilities. But look brother I don’t know what year liberty you have. There is a lot of info on both forum.liberty.asn.au and legacygt.com. You need to log your engine and check if both the OCV and the AVCS are advancing at the same degree at the same time. If one is slower than its either the OCV or the cam sprocket. If it’s OCV like I said it will jump when you swap left to right... it’s a one bolt and super easy to do in the front. The rear OCV controls the exhaust valves and wouldn’t affect timing to create a misfire. But if you or someone doesn’t log the engine it’s hard to say. Also do your misfires only occur at idle and light engine load and below 4K rpm? Do they go away at WOT or above 4k? If so that confirms it has to do with either AVCS or with AFR. I have given enough info and I hope you can figure it out. If all else fails you can check the screens on the bango filters feeding the left and right AVCS cam sprocket. If they are blocked you can remove or replace the bolts to fix oil pressure but again this would show up as a retardation in timing on the blocked AVCS side. forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=30105 www.google.com/amp/s/www.subaruoutback.org/forums/66-problems-maintenance/421889-another-h6-3-0r-misfire-thread-mystery.html%3ft=421889&=1 Good luck
Probably spark plugs
that or coilpacks but if that were the case it would be isolated to only one cylinder. not the entire left bank.
0:20 s14 spotted?
How did the Vibrant resonator change the sound? I was thinking of getting a Vibrant bottle style resonator with Nameless axlebacks for my 3.0 Subaru Outback. I am worried about the drone that the Nameless produces, but I hope that the Vibrant resonator will help.
how did you find a catback for the 3.0r from borla? been looking and havent had any luck
Joel \m/ it's the same borla cat back for the LGT. The only reason LGT cat backs don't work with 3.0R's is because the flange is rotated like 30 degrees. Luckily borla uses a floating style donut flange which can be clocked to match up to both the LGT and the 3.0r
Joel \m/ yup that's the one. So I bought mine used off legacygt.com and the previous owner removed the resonator on the mid pipe. I welded a vibrant ultra quiet in there. Also note I have raptor headers with high flow cats and no third cat. Honestly I think it'll sound deeper and smoother with the stock headers and cats. Post up a sound vid when you do it.
Thanks, i will be getting raptor headers also yeah ill see how it sounds as is and ill definitely post some vids up once its done
sadly i didnt go with borla as it was to expensive to ship to Australia but i got a xforce catback instead doesnt sound too bad
that is a freakin' 911 if you close your eyes... sounds sick
Have you had it tuned?
I'm pretty keen to get some raptor headers for my 3.0R. Did you get a tune as well? Was there a noticeable increase in power? Cheers
Definitely a noticeable power difference but man it gets raspy so make sure you plan it out with some nice resonators cause the stock one won't do much.
Will it be alright to get the headers first and then upgrade the rest of the exhaust at a later date? What do you mean by raspy? Does it sound bad? Cheers
TheJaisah you can do that. You'll need to weld a custom y-pipe because it's double piped (very restricted).
hey shawn, is there ANYWHERE i can get some perrin backs?
I might consider selling if I find another axel back I like. I want to try the borla and turbo xs mufflers. Otherwise, I hope you know this clip was open headers and this is not the sound that comes out of the perrin axle back.
+Shawn yes i know, but i know them perrins when i see em!
+Butch DehDeh haha gotcha. i'll let you know if i see anything for sale. just keep an eye out on legacygt.com thats where i found mine a year ago.
I've recently picked up an 06 3.0r, I'm wanting to do something along the lines of this. This system or similar should work fine, yes?
TCP auto axle-backs and the X-force sound similar. Also, look into STI Genomes and ProDrives. Guys from LegacyGT.com are a huge help, that's where I bought mine off of. Any cat back or axle-back I think will for from a Legacy GT.
Just got my 3.0r, need to get something similar to a perrin axle back. Any suggestions or sites for parts?
I Love that Sound ! Would it be possible for you to make a longer video while you are driving it? Just to hear the exaust from the inside while you are on full throttle. Please :)
Yeah I love the exhaust! I'll try to put up another video later this week.
***** Thanks, I'm planning to put that motor in my gc, and now I want the exact same exhaust that you have! :)
Alexandre Hamel ruclips.net/video/_Jb_bixHjhk/видео.html Just made the video, might still be processing. It's not the best but it should do, hopefully! I also just sound deadened the trunk to get rid of some the drone. It wasn't bad, but I wanted things a little quieter.
Nice sound mate. What did it set you back to do the mod?
I bought used from a member on legacygt.com for about $300. They bolted right up to the stock y-pipe.
