Piper PA30 instrument panel wiring-control cable interference
Просмотров 6458 лет назад
Posting this video for the customer. Initially one of our technicians was starting to "clean up" the wiring under the panel and discovered that the autopilot wiring harness was in contact with the elevator control cable. (the cable going across the screen diagonally). When I took this video, I discovered that the auto pilot unit was also not secured very well. I do get tired of seeing such bad ...

Piper Comanche Stabilator Bearing Removal
My favorite plane, the Comanche and my fav Comanche, the 260C.......thanks for showing
Very helpful. Never knew this level of detail about my Comanche
That's a really nice downlock kit Cliff - Where can I get one for my Piper Comanche???
What was the clicking noise in during extension?
I had no idea these came with turbos. That’d be great.
Looks so so good!!!!! I'm trying to put these on my comanche on my next annual!
Just filled up my PA24 over the weekend and drip drip drip ... guess what I get to do this weekend! So that is why I've been smelling raw fuel during landing for the pas couple of years - duh
beautifull aircraft
$$$$$$
What a wonderful aircraft and work of art. Easily one of the best light aircraft ever built!
Beautiful, I love the 260 C.
Did that F86 used to be in England..? At Duxford...?
Wore out hydro pump.
Very nice indeed.
I am very curious, how long the seals in my '86 Malibu will last. No rubber tanks but I wonder if the material that is sealing up the aluminum is any better than there bladders. Sometimes I wonder if the biggest problem will be leakage or little pieces of sealant clogging up the fuel filter, which as we all know sucks.
Nice job
Wow, pretty much every part on that landing gear was worn.
This would be a great airplane to put some money in.
Guess wat. All those lights are now made in Taiwan. No need to purchase any particular brand anymore - all consumer electronics made overseas
What was the problem in the end? Is the handle the emergency extension?
Eventually that could have been very inconvenient. Good catch
Nice video. Was the transmission from a twin Comanche? 12 volts?
Wow, you showed exactly where the slop is, great video. Was that a high time airplane?
Whelen Aerospace now proudly made in Taiwan
That red light how i can get Like same Please informed me..
Nice! Thanks.
I change two of my 10 years ago the other two could go bad. It helps to keep them full of fuel they last longer. It is a job . My plane was a Comanche 260. Great video explained everything good.
Any idea how to keep mud daubers out of your Comanche.
Excellent info . Thanks for putting this video together !
How would you remove those boomerang mounts to flatten them out? They got some sort of special rivet
shameful condition
So have to ask...Have a 1961 PA-24 180 that I would like to make this modification. What would be the approximate cost to purchase and have these installed???
Awesome! Will be contacting whelen for a strobe.
Cool!
Hi what was the cost to change one ? i might have the same problem...
They're about 1,000 bucks per bladder. Labor is about 10 hours so anywhere between 800 and 1k in labor per. Comanches with the aux bladders have a total of 4. So you're looking at 1,800-2000 dollars installed, per bladder. Life cycle of a bladder should be in excess of 20 years but in practice with weathering, top of the bladders remaining dry for a long time due to flying with partial or even empty auxes all the time, you'd be looking at 10 years before these things start giving you trouble again. I prefer Piper's integral tanks; unfortunately Piper didn't really have a replacement to the comanche (I don't consider the Piper Lance a bona fide in-class replacement in the least, as Piper argued), so you're kinda stuck with these old Comanche contraptions if you want something between an Archer/Arrow/Dakota and a 6-place airplane like PA32 and A36 C210 et al. Their competition being the Beech 33/35 bonanzas of course, which also carry the expense and hassle of these bladders, to be fair to the comanche.
FUEL bladders although a pain sometimes... MUCH safer than metal or Wet wing tanks in survivable accidents ! they absorb impact better and may not rupture vs the other style... I'll take my bladders any day.. IMO
Good call using whelen. Nice job
Hi, Can you explain the emergency extension procedure? People tell me to have someone below to cushion the fall. Once down, do you lift the gear back up to re-engage the transmission? Cheers..
Hi Nick, Yes, you should either have somebody below to catch the gear as it falls out of the well. It's not that heavy. Another way to do it is to only retract the gear partially. Maybe 1/4 of the way up or less and do the release from there. That way the gear will not hit with such a force as it would from all of the way up. Once the gear is down, you have to run the gear motor down and then you can re-engage it. It's not that easy to explain, but is fairly easy to do. You just gave me another idea for the next video. When I get a chance, I will show the emergency extension and then re-engaging the gear motor.
I would very much like to see this if you get around to filming it.
Hadn't seen one in years
Saw this at Barksdale AFB. Beautiful plane!
Considering l.e.d. Aircraft lights? I had a popping nav/strobe circuit breaker. My mechanic took off my AREOLEDS nav strobe lights, because they were full of water.( previous mechanic put them on) The previous annual he took off the AEROLEDS landing and taxi lights due to them not functioning. That same year he took off the aeroleds beacon, I had to turn the beacon off to avoid radio noise on 1/2 of my needed frequencies. I spent over $3,600 dollars on replacing my incandescent Cessna lights. I'm glad I made the decision to go l.e.d's, but not to go with the aeroleds brand. I made a you tube video,of the lights full of water " aeroleds full of water" Watch it before you buy. Learn from my misfortune, "I now have Whelen" Fly safe.
Thanks for the excellent video Cliff. I've attended a few of your seminars and the video adds to the learning experience
Always appreciate your videos Cliff! Keep 'em coming.
Thank you Cliff... great video. Jim
Thanks for the good comments. I am going to try to do these types of "Informational" and/or "How does it work" videos on a more regular basis.
That instrumentation looks original. Very cool restoration.
Is she still in Rockford? Probably my favorite aircraft ever.
+IAB98Raptor Yes still at KRFD. Hope to have at Oshkosh.
Thank for this. Very informative. I look forward to some more!
Nice video Cliff! Keep 'em coming!
