The bull is a small figure that I bought after I ran with the bulls in Spain. It was such a wild experience that I wanted something to look at that would instantly bring back the memory. I bought it from a small corner shop and although our interaction was brief I found myself slightly smitten with the woman behind the counter. Her beauty was wild and her eyes were bright and intelligent. I've since returned home and I look at the bull from time to time. I don't think of running with the bulls. I think of her. Thanks for the videos!

The reason why this object is important to my character is that it was in front of the room door of a person who stayed in my mind. The sister of a friend. It a bit of the art style of hers familly and so I associated it to this woman long time ago.. Sometimes I see her, she is a painter, I don't really like abstract art but this object helped me to understand hers paints.

I had the good fortune to study with Miss Hagen at the time Respect For Acting came out in 1972. She used to have all of the new students come to a lecture of what goes into good acting and how to strive to achieve it. Then she would give her demonstration of her system of exercises, each dealing with a separate technique to focus on ways to become more alive, more connected to the truthful involvement in the life of the play. I was present at the last Demonstration. Thereafter, if a student had a question, she would say, "Read the book." But the questions never stopped. Finally, she got her copy out and realized that, son of a gun, she had left some things out. This was in the mid-80s. Okay, only one thing to do. She wrote another acting book, which I like even better, called "Challenge For the Actor." I believe that I am the only student enrolled at both eras (with a break in between), a witness to the tweaks and changes between the two books. As she would finish writing a chapter, she would bring it into class and read it to us. Sitting right next to her, I recorded her, with her permission. As for Substitution, Miss Hagen used the term "Transference", which better describes the subtle method of introducing little investigations of like personal experiences into the preparation and also performance of the character once the show opens (so that the role never becomes static or stale). Substitution sounds more like surgery than movement, and everything rather is about forward-moving action and expectations. Besides, as Bill Hickey, a fellow teacher at HB Studio, and devoted student, like Miss Hagen, of Herbert Berghof, would say, "You can only add, you can never subtract." There is always a flutter of the heart.

I enjoyed your video. Though basic but think you actually did a fair job on the acting techniques and made is quite understandable to anyone. Personally as an actor I usually use Stellar Adler's imagination of course because it's not mentally and psychologically endangering however I ones tried Lee Strasbourg emotional recall. I had to stop it while I still had control on myself because the dark emotion that I evoked stayed with me almost through out the shoot even when I was unnecessary. I suddenly became cold and withdrawn. I'll ONLY try the emotional recall on a production where measures and resources are put in place to take me out of such emotion or if/when I have the resources myself. Until then I'll go with Stellar Adler. Thanks

Emotion memory is one of the most powerful tools used by professional actors with no ill effects whatsoever. However I add one caveat, one needs professional experience as an actor in many aspects of our industry to understand how to use this choice approach. It is a skill set that’s absolutely required in countless professional circumstances, as you get ready for a take on film for example: one has to be in the emotional being state of one’s character within the given circumstances of the scene your about to shoot. However if you don’t have security of process, a methodical approach to emotion memory, if you’re an amateur and dabbling, emotional recall and substitution work it is of no use to you…avoid it because it won’t work, nothing bad will happen to you, it just won’t work and you will ‘act’ the idea of the emotion, which of course is bad acting. If you’re afraid of your own emotions you’re not a professional actor. There is no shame in this, it’s just your facticity. Know yourself and be authentic with your self.

Hello, welcome to BookTube. I can't believe you dog eared your books, you monster. 😜 Love Dorian Gray, read it twice, definately better the second time. Thank you for the review of None of this is Serious. I've been really waiting for reviews before I decided if I would read it. Sally Rooney is exceptional isn't she, simple, but weirdly complex too and everything is just very well done. I don't get people who like Conversations, but not Normal People. Audiobooks count, I don't know if watching plays count, but why not and who cares it's interesting and it fits in with the video. Great wrap, surprised this is your first video you're a natural. Keep making great content. 🙂

Lol you’ll be happy to know my sticky tabs arrived in the post yesterday! None of this is serious was still an interesting read. One thing I forgot to mention is the we never hear any of the main character’s dialogue so she’ll be thinking about something and then you’ll hear the other character’s response so you almost need to guess what she’s saying which was quite interesting. Thanks for the warm welcome!!
