I mistakenly recorded a time lapse of the work on the horse, but not the forging. It came out interesting anyway, so here it is.

Its horses and days like this that keep me loving this job.

It has been a rough summer for horse hooves. In this video, I work on two horses. The first horse has good feet and gets shoes, but he second horse lost a shoe last time and busted his hooves up out in the field that I couldn't put shoes back on. His hooves don't look good this time either...

This is just a quick reset of a horse with just front shoes on a beautiful early fall morning. I'm starting to go through my rather vast amount of farrier footage that I've collected over the last couple of years. Expect a lot more to come.

I needed a spot to put my stabilizer that I recently started using for my Bay Horse anvil swing out, so I had to do a minor modification to it.

My favorite thing to make may be hoof picks from recycled horseshoes. They make the perfect gifts to clients. I usually just leave them at barns or give them to clients directly. Keeping horse's hooves picked is one of the most effective ways for owners to help their horse's hooves.

This is a 2015 Bay Horse Shoeing Rig set up with old-school sensibilities combined with modern amenities. * Forgive me, I wasn't even fully awake when I filmed this video. One of my favourite things in the world is looking at other farrier rigs, so this is my contribution to that end. I hope you find it interesting and that I don't sound as much like dieing Darth Vader to you as I think I do.

It is important to have a solid and properly fitted hammer for best forging performance. A jiggly hammer handle causes messy work. Mine was due, so I fixed it. I find that Forschners and a bit of color from the forge make for a good amount of tackiness and good looking handle.

We have to secure the heel area of hoof pads where there are no nails. These copper roofing nails work perfectly and are the standard way farriers do this task.
