Jehovah” is generally held to have been the invention of Pope Leo X.’s confessor, Peter Galatin (“De Arcanis Catholicæ Veritatis,” 1518, folio xliii.), who was followed in the use of this hybrid form by Fagius (= Büchlein, 1504-49). Drusius (= Van der Driesche, 1550-1616) was the first to ascribe to Peter Galatin the use of “Jehovah,” and this view has been taken since his days (comp. Hastings, “Dict. Bible,” ii. 199, s.v. “God”; Gesenius-Buhl, “Handwörterb.” 1899, p. 311; see Drusius on the tetragrammaton in his “Critici Sacri, i. 2, col. 344). But it seems that even before Galatin the name “Jehovah” had been in common use (see Drusius, l.c. notes to col. 351). It is found in Raymond Martin’s “Pugio Fidei.” written in 1270 (Paris, 1651, iii., pt. ii., ch. 3, p. 448; comp. T. Prat in “Dictionnaire de la Bible,” s.v.). - Jewish Encyclopedia www.yaiy.org/literature/MistakenJ.html While I do believe we have FATHER'S PRESERVED WORDS in the AKJV it would be silly to believe the names sound like they did in the original Hebrew or Greek but they should and be recognizable. Most ALL Names in the Bible do NOT have the original sound. The Names should have been transliterated (some were ) not translated to keep the original sound. Our English language and spelling etc. was not even standardized at that time. This doesn't even take into account that the Jews themselves , hid ( Niqqud ) FATHER'S name 6848 times ( YHWH ) replacing it with titles such titles as Adonai, Elohim etc. Our translators mistakenly read the vowel points as they sounded not realizing that was only for the reader to pronounce Adonai, Elohim and not say Father's TRUE NAME YAHWEH יהוה. God, Lord, Jehovah, etc was used in the AKJV mistakenly. Father's WORD says a promise to preserve his WORDS not Hebrew given names in an English Bible... Psalms 12:6-7. In Ancient Hebrew all those given names in scripture are preserved. I seek FATHER YAH ! and use his name. I want to speak and call HIS name, the name HE says in his WORD is above ALL names. I want to call on my Saviour by HIS name, not an incorrect one. Psalms 68:4 that's YAH in Hebrew and the letter J did not exist in English until about 500 yrs ago and never has in Hebrew or Greek and NOT in the 1611 AKJV. David knew who he was praising. Also see Proverbs 30:4 ( NAME...Father's and Son's ). Any name should be recognizable in all languages ( Transliteration ).
