River Yare - Postwick Fishing
The Postwick Stretch of the River Yare, near Brundall gives anglers great access to the prolific Surlingham Bends Stretch. 2012 Restoration paid for by anglers rod licence money, provides 23 all weather swims with flat level access. This video describes the stretch and how to fish it for Broads Bream, River Carp, Pike Perch and Roach.

Investigation in to Wensum Roach
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 года назад
In 1984 John Baily wrote that there was something wrong with the health of the River Wensum Roach. Nearly 40 years later a full in depth study is being carried out to try to find out why what was once one of the Countries top Roach venues, now has barely a handful of Roach for each mile of River. The Broads Angling Services Group, through its dedicated "Upper Rivers" team have enabled this proj...
It's really heartbreaking to hear how the Wensum has deteriorated, it's really just a drainage water channel now. I used to fish it regularly in the early 1950s and large shoals of 1•5-2•0lb roach were common. Halcyon days wasn't I lucky to have been there?
I fish the upper reaches of the waveney and it's the same. I've noticed once healthy waters full of chub and pike are now dead. I've assumed predation from otters and cormorants? It's a tragedy.
Just a shame a lot of the swims overgrown now
The late great John Wilson told us the reason of the vanishing Wensum roach years ago. It’s nothing to do with chemical or metal pollution, blame the brain dead morons who decided to introduce otters back into Norfolks river systems.
Have the results of this study been published yet? If yes, can I have a pdf please?
Just got back from a weeks fishing holiday on the Norfolk Broads, one of the stretches we wanted to try was Postwick, on arrival at the venue the River looked absolutely fanstastic, as there was 5 of us who had travelled from Sheffield we decided to have a walk down the bank to check the pegs out, as we walked down the path the fishing pegs were absolutley disgusting having reeds grown infront of the pegs/stagings making them unfishable we must have walked down 6/7 pegs and much to our disappointment they were all in the same state, we did not walk any further due to some older members in our party. It says that this stretch of water was restored using anglers rod licence money, and as a fully paid rod licence holder for over 40yrs, this just made our visit more dissappointing - Thanks Dave
Been fishing 40 years now notice the difference between upper river and todals , I believe the upper rivers effected more because of stronger farm pesticides not being diluted enough due to river width . Imo
Was this video taken near Hellesdon Mill?
Yes that's exactly where it was taken. One of 3 sampling sites on the Wensum,.
@@basg143 I thought so, I was down there not so long ago and there just didn't feel like there was any fish life at All so you videos kinda explains why, such a beautiful stretch of river aswel
Keep everybody up to date on this project, please,
We have been promised updates from the University as data becomes available and we will make them public, please follow our facebook page for latest on this and other Norfok/Suffolk natural water angling news.
If they don’t look good here, whatever do they look like further downstream, when you get past the old May & Bakers site and all the crap that went in from there…
Scary stuff Neville, Interestingly the populations of roach/rudd in the Tidal Yare look completely the opposite, numbers of healthy looking fish. Hopefully this study will give a little more understanding.
@@basg143 The Upper Bure doesn’t look very good though, I suppose it’s similar to the Wensum, but I am noticing a huge build up of silt this year…
@@nevillej9408 We have noticed you documenting this and its really useful reference, Keep up the good work at some point scientists will use the footage you are recording.
@@basg143 The Bure is the same downstream, plenty of fish, so it would seem that it is the upper rivers which are struggling ?
As a local boy, this is concerning for the future. Very interested in the outcome of the research. 🎣 Fishing_with_rory
Hi Rory, BASG is pretty much all local boys trying to look after our local fishing. Have a look at our website/facebook we have some good stuff going on.
