My Cozy Garden Cottage

Welcome to my cozy cottage. This channel is about teaching others to crochet, yarn, being creative, making pretty or practical things for your home that make your home and life feel even more cozy. It's about valuing quality over quantity and realizing that having lots of things does not bring real happiness. Stopping to look at the sky or squirrels or flowers, making something with your own hands that brings you joy, learning something new that inspires you, hearing the voice of a loved one, reading a book that lifts your heart, doing something special for someone else ...even a small thing that makes them smile....being a better person every day by being kind because everyone needs a bit of kindness these days....these are happy things that I love. Oh, and all things crochet and sewing are a big part of my life so you'll definitely see that here. :)
How to Crochet an Irish rose
Welcome to my channel! Thank you for taking the time to check it out. :)
This video is a crochet tutorial for how to crochet a beautiful Irish rose flower. This pattern is just one version of what is called an Irish rose in the world of crochet. There are other ways to crochet an Irish rose, but I really like this version.
This pretty crochet flower is beginner friendly, and I go through the entire pattern step by step. I know you can do it if you are persistent, even if you have only basic crochet skills. If you are a very skilled crocheter, this flower is still a great project. I never get tired of making it.

Look for my follow up lesson on single and double crochet stitches…coming soon. 🤗 Thank you so much for visiting my video. Best wishes. 💖
Great beginner tutorial!
She didn’t say the size of the hook that would really help
Hello! I'm sorry if I didn't mention it in the video. I wrote it in the description under the video. I used a 4.5 mm hook. You could use a smaller hook or a larger hook for this project if you wanted, as long as it works well with the yarn you are using. The size of your hook will make your project smaller or larger. Thank you for watching!
@@mycozygardencottage thank you
Do you have a written pattern for this ? TIA

Thank you so much. Sometime we lose power up here in the mountains and this helps out a lot thank you.
Please lose the music. It's not needed.. Could hardly hear you.
Thank you for your comment. My video editing skills are not very good yet. I'm still learning how to adjust things like the volume of the music and get rid of that stupid buzz.
Great explanantion and it turned out so cute!
I'm so glad you liked it! I always enjoy making this too. 😊
So cute ❤ I was looking for a cardamom pod pattern and this is the closest that I could find. I wonder if you could make a small cardamom pod pattern? Like the size of this pea pod?
Hi! Thank you for your comment! I’ll see what I can do and I’ll let you know. I was thinking that you could use beans for the stuffing so it has the natural bumpy look. 😀
Absolutely adorable ❤❤❤ !!! Nice n easy, thank you. long Island, NY
Thank you Clara! I'm so happy you enjoyed it. 😊💖
thanks ma'am !!! this is very easy to follow eventho mine's turned out a little bit uglier but im sure i just need a little more practice
You are very welcome! Thank you! I always tell myself and my students that our work will improve if we do the pattern a 2nd or 3rd time. 🙂 Thank you for watching! 💖
No written instructions???
Hello and thank you for your comment! I'm very new to creating videos and I'm learning a lot and improving along the way. I'll try to revise and repost this with subtitles as soon as possible. I've never posted entire patterns in the description box. I assume you were referring to subtitles within the video. Is that right?
Beautiful. But the music is tres distracting.
I'm sorry about that. My video editing skills are pretty bad, but I'm getting a little better with each video. Getting the audio just right has been challenging for me.
What a great tutorial! You’re a great teacher! ❤
Thank you so much! It's so motivating to receive such comments! 🥰
I've (finally) gotten a handle on the magic circle! Thank you so much. This is the easiest magic circle I've come across! Haven't been able to fit 4 sets of double crochet into my circle though. Help, please!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! You should be able to get all the stitches in the circle since it's adjustable. In the video, I said I like to make my ring about the size of a dime, but you don't have to. I pulled the tail to make it smaller, but if you copy what I did and it seems too small, you can pull the other side of the circle down gently to make it a little bigger again. (I hope that makes sense!) Alternatively, right after making the magic ring, simply refrain from pulling the tail as much as I did. But all that said, I'm confident all 12 double crochet stitches will fit in the circle. Here is a link to the magic ring video I made: ruclips.net/video/Wxdg1nz5BEU/видео.htmlsi=t55drols8X6jN94P I hope that helps! :)
Very sweet... thanks!!!
Thank you too! :)
Thank you for sharing us how to crochet the granny square. Your video allowed me to really understand how to do it. I’m new at crocheting and I knit as well. This was perfect. You explained it so well. Thank you so much!! ❤

What size hook ?
Hello, you can use any size hook suitable for the yarn you're using, but I believe I used a G/6 4.25 mm hook. I use that one a lot. :) I should really be putting things like that in the description box. I'll try to do that in the future.
@@mycozygardencottage thank you 😊
So many great things about this video 1 your voice is so soothing 2 I've never seen a granny square started with a magic circle but it looks so much easier than starting without it 3 I have some very poofy velour yarn, do you think it would be possible to make a granny square blanket with it because it's SO tough to work with and I've made 6 or 7 granny square blankets with regular yarn but it's impossible to see the chain with this velour yarn
Oh thank you! I know what you mean about the chenille yarn. You can definitely make a granny square with it, but I've had trouble getting the magic ring to close with that yarn. I ended up putting the magic ring tail on my yarn needle and running it under all the stitches of round 1, then pulling tight to close it. Another way would be to do it would be, instead of using a magic ring, chain 3 and put all the stitches of round 1 into the 1st chain. It will appear to be closed in the center with the poofy yarn....or almost closed I think.
@mycozygardencottage so I'm using velvet plus yarn and it's sooooo hard to work with even just to start a granny square... do you have any videos working with velvet yarn? Or advice on how to with with it?
Love this join technique! Thank u! Would enjoy seeing any of your favorite projects/stitch patterns. PS Your voice and music are soothing!
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I'm getting better at video editing and I'm hoping the process will get faster and I can make lots more videos. 🥰💕

@@mycozygardencottage I have a question. I've tried starting twice with the magic ring but it always comes out wrong and makes me mad. Can I start with just a slip knot and chain 4 or however many? I still want to chain 3 to make the corners. Will it still turn out the same starting with a chain 4 and no magic ring?
@@theresabeaman5522 Hello, yes you could certainly make this without using the magic ring. Just as you said, you could make a chain 4 and slip stitch to the 1st chain to make a ring, then crochet all the stitches for round 1 into the ring. ...OR, instead of making a slip stitch, you could put all the stitches for round 1 into the 1st chain (next to the slip knot). Here is a link to my video on the magic ring if you want to try it again: ruclips.net/video/Wxdg1nz5BEU/видео.htmlsi=BvmHumWc34oZICUj But for this project you definitely don't have to use it.🙂
You did fine, thank you.
Thanks Mary!
Lovely video! Thanks for sharing, your joining technique is beautiful.
Thank you so much! I was excited when I learned that technique too. I can't claim credit for inventing it. I learned it from one of the many amazing crocheters in RUclips land. 😊
@@mycozygardencottage We all learn from each other, but the delivery is something unique to each teacher out there and I really appreciate your calm and sweet style ✨
It would be great to know what size hook you did this with.
Hi! I used a 4.25 mm hook size.
Best butterfly tutorial. Very easy to follow along
Thank you so much! 🥰
Thank you for this! I have tried a number of videos for making small roses and yours is by far the best.
Awww! Thank you so much!
A big compliment for the way you explain how to make these beautiful roses ❤

Hello!
Hi Abby! lol...you found me! 😂
@@mycozygardencottage Yep! Lol
❤love this Thanks for showing us so clearly..for other small projects like this it might be useful to include a summary of the writren pattern plus hook sized used ,either on screen in a caption or below the video in the descriptor? I watched holding a pen so I could make a note of when you changed to each new stitch.Thankyou for taking time to generously share this..I know it cant be easy editing video ! ❤
Hi, thank you for your comment! I've put pattern titles on some of my videos in the past. I don't really have a reason why I didn't do it in this one. I'm learning how to edit videos, so I've been trying out lots of things. I will start adding the pattern either on the screen or in the description. I know I really like it when I watch other crochet videos with the instructions on the screen. Thank you for mentioning it. 🙂💕
@@mycozygardencottage thankyou....please don't take it as a criticism....I love what you do ! ❤️
This one seems complicated. First, the ring kept falling apart even after I followed the video. Then I get confused on where to put the hook in the circle, I can't "see" the holes, plus I'm worried to hook into where the tails were sewn in. Should I practice more before attempting this? :-(
Hi! I'm sorry you had trouble with it! I have another video for the magic ring that might help you here: ruclips.net/video/Wxdg1nz5BEU/видео.htmlsi=oicSY1DbZ26Ep-77 ....I know the yellow was really bright in the camera and it was hard to see the stitches. Sorry about that. The concept is the same for any project that uses a ring, working in a circle. So if you watch the video above and practice a little bit, I'm sure it will be a big help. Let me know if you need anything else. The magic ring took me many tries before I was proficient at it when I was learning it. But it's a wonderful tool to have in crochet.
Thank you so much for replying. Just one more question. Your yarn looks thicker than mine. Doing your other projects my items come out smaller. What type of yarn should I use? Tia!
@@user-bc4bf7sy2k ....I used medium weight (#4) acrylic yarn, not 100% sure exactly which one. I often use yarn like Red Heart Super Saver or Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn or something similar for projects like this. I like to use a 4.5 mm hook. I think that's what I used for this project. Keep in mind that if you use a smaller hook or yarn, or both, your project will always be smaller. Conversely, if you use a larger hook or yarn or both it will also come out larger. I will try to state what size hook and yarn I'm using in future videos. Thanks again for watching. 😊💖
If you’re new to crochet, I would suggest practicing on flat things like scarves, wash rags and dish towels first.
@@christinafidance340 I just saw your comment...Thanks for adding that! I totally agree. 😍

Hi!!
Hi Layla! :)
How to do a slip stitch? ❤
Hi! I'll have to include that in a video soon. But I'll try to explain it here....you insert your hook into a stitch, yarn over, then pull the yarn through the stitch and also the loop on your hook. I hope that helps! 🙂
