I'm i the only one thinks her cancer is a karma of all her previous action and behavior towards others. I can only imagine her being a teenager in high school being a huge bully to other kids.

This woman sounds like an entitled brat and has been her whole life and is willing to die as one. Even in the face of death and, depending on her religious beliefs, eternal judgement, she is acting like a bitch to everyone who will support her. Most dying people I know (I work in medical and have had a fair number of people I know and love on end of life care) are the exact opposite. They’re humble and thankful. Sure they have moments of anger and lashing out, but it’s more in the grieving sense like “why is this happening to me?” Plus, with the above mentioned facing death, most people think about their life and realize they will die, they will have a funeral, and people will have a memory of them. If they think it probably won’t be a good memory (and also depending on their religion, would do their damndest to stay out of Hell if there is a chance), so they try and make peace, ask forgiveness, sometimes to an overboard degree. SIL is thinking dying gives her special treatment which is guaranteeing she will not be remembered fondly by people who otherwise would support her. So this is proof even DYING isn’t an excuse for entitled crappy behavior.

First of all: Substance Abuse isn´t a crime per se. It is an illness, and a very bad one. But to draw a tighter circle, i speak of Opiates. Those are Heroin, Opium, Morphium, Fentanyl... and similiar subtances. If one has a soft spot for this stuff, normally has severe problems with his psyche. If one has not such Prioblems, he/She doesn´t need these shit, so there is no use in taking that stuff! But if you have good use for this shit, then it´s a nasty problem. So called "normal"people" won´t accept you, and damn you as the devil. That you have severe Problems, doesn´t interest these guys. They only see to their own tip of the nose, and then there is nothing! But the other thing is: You can never trust a Junkie! They lie to you for their drug - just as any others do for their stuff! Have you ever heared a smoker or drinker talk bad about their crap? Normally won´t happen! That in mind: Don´t trust your Family about your finances! Especcially not when they are fine! NEVER! It´´s just none of their buisiness!

The thing with substance abusers is they set a way too high priority on finding more substance to abuse. My old boss helped out a few drug addicts in his neighborhood with food, but the golden rule was always 'never cash'. If that meant making an additional trip to the supermarket then so be it, but money would without doubt go straight to his dealer. OP wants to help her mother, then offer to pay for the rehab clinic. But never cash in hand.
