John Deere Cylinder Rebuild
In this video we rebuild a John Deere loader cylinder. The cylinder is from a 420 loader, but it is a very typical style cylinder for John Deere. Let me know if I skipped something you need to know down in the comments. Enjoy!

John Deere D120 Engine Swap
Просмотров 7 тыс.11 месяцев назад
In this video we take the engine from a Craftsman mower and swap it into a Deere D120.
Yes you had a lot of great tech pointers but we failed 6 times and gave up what a stupid design everytime it tore the tool up we had to buy multiples of the tool and still failed ☹
Thanks for making this video. Helped me out.
Is there fluid needed in the cylinder?
Nope
Thank you for the help bud worked great 👍
My bucket cylinders on my 430 loader do not move at the same speed, is this an indication a rebuild is needed?
No
You were very helpfull, Thank you.
Best video for rebuilding my John Deere loader tilt cylinder. Lots of tricks learned, great delivery, instills confidence....thank you very much!
Great video! Just rebuilt all of my front loaders cylinders with no errors thanks to this video
At 18:40 - "There is a tool for this, but I never use it." I may need to order it. I've spent about 45 minutes trying to get this seal to behave. I am working on a smaller diameter cylinder so maybe it is especially hateful. What is this tool called?
a.co/d/bGAQ2qA This is the tool on Amazon
thanks for sharing, that is something else the way they designed that cylinder and needing a special tool for the snapring!
PS, the hack using the leather and a hose clamp is priceless!
The torque spec on this is... 'all of it'. LMBO!!
I'm well into my repair job on my 200CX FEL. Your video is my bible, sir! Thanks a million.
Thanks for explaining the orange ring. What a bogus design. Rebuilding a JD770 steering cylinder. Thank you!
thanks for posting video!!! where do you obtain the seal kits?
That was going to be my question. Hopefully a good quality reliable seal kit not from JD, Amazing or eBay and hopefully definitely not since made in Chy-Na! 😂 Being your question was a month ago with by response I guess we might be out there with Bob Dylan and left blowing in the wind! 😂
Thanks for putting this video up. It was very helpful. My local dealer in Van Alstyne, Texas had the kit in stock. This is for Bucket Cylinder 420 Loader 013054 - ST406437 with rebuilt kit part# AH176344. Be warned, the kit doesn't come with a gland removal tool. You have to buy it separately. Maybe another kit has it included but the one I got didn't have it.
Awesome video watched as I just rebuilt the cylinder on my skidsteer no leaks now
What about the o ringe on the rod behind the nut ?
Will a 2 cylinder engine fit on a mower that originally had a 1 cylinder engine?
hurts my heart. i tried and tried but mine would not go in any further. was like a suction that was fighting me in or out. ended up just dropping it off. $270 was the damage. and now i know i have another problem as the piston won’t extend up (out). only down (in). unless i reverse the lines. 😭
do you know how they fixed it? I'm currently stuck with the suction pulling the rod back in as well. It's like playing tug-of-war with an elephant
I appreciate your video my friend, you are the best!!!
I’ve watched all the videos and yours was a good one all the content needed and not long winded.
Ty brother for insight God bless you gotta do this on jd 850 tractor ty
Great job on explaining the process. Very helpful.
Very good I picked up a couple of cool tricks! I enjoyed the video!
Very good explanation of how to do this replacement of seals.
Appears you skipped the removal of the inner snap ring that needs to come out before putting in the "tool" in its place.
Nope….the tool is there to allow the snap ring to compress so you can remove the gland.
We are repairing cylinders from a 158 JD loader - the outer snap ring on ours does not have the holes in it to grab with the snap ring tool to spread it- do you have any suggestions as to how to get that back on? We’re having a dilly of a time trying to get it back in place.
Those retaining rings are the worst, my advice is to be creative… I have made at least 3 different tools just for those stupid retaining rings
Try these LEONTOOL 11-Inch Lock Ring Pliers Flat Snap Ring Pliers Special Circlip Pliers Reverse Pliers Angle Tip Retaining Ring Pliers Ring Opening Pliers Spreader Pliers for Transmission Transfer Cases a.co/d/5re7T8i
I used regular snap ring pliers that have the pins. Just below the pins, they have a flat area that worked great for those round snap rings. To compress the internal snap ring, I found that a CV joint clamp worked the best for me. It is thin enough to slide partway into the end of the cylinder.
Show from the beginning, like taking off the spanner nut, need to redo 1978 70 series john Deere lift arm cylinders, can't see any spanner rings on this model. Spanner nut turns and turns but won't come off any ideas thanks jim
I have a 1978 70 series john Deere skid steer. Trying to put new seals in lift arm cylinders It has the spanner nut at the end . It turns and turns and will not come off. I can't see a lock ring any where. What am I missing
What model is the loader?
I hate the jd cly type but I’ve done plenty of them over the years Thanks
Takes strong fingers and hands to force them in or buy the high dallor tools and there worth it once you start lolol
Like a piston ring compressor but home made type
no its not easy !
Thanks for the great video!! I have a JD400 tractor with a Brantly 420 loader and I’m sure the lift cylinders need rebuilding. I’ve been looking for a video that deals with this size and style of cylinders. Much appreciated. Great description and presentation. Thanks again. 🙂👍🏻👍🏻
This was an incredibly valuable video! Thank you!
Thanks for the video helpful!
Great video, man!
Find fix repeat i fix most of my mowers i cut yard's you gained a new sub I like your positive vibe
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Great second video ! Better than what I could do.
Thanks! Hope to keep putting out good content.
Watch Wes Work demonstrated a neat tool for installing the inner seal recently when he was rebuilding a cylinder for his skid steer.
I have the tool, but I have been doing by hand for so long I forget I have it. 🤦♂️
Wow! Such an informative video!! Looking forward to the next episode!
great video!Which JD dealer is this one? How many hours were on the D120?´Thanks!
Central Texas. Only 140 or so on the mower, it was just neglected and ran without oil.
It's a Honda. Built like a tank. Runs longer then any battery powered mower.
Worked on push mowers for forty years , never did much too riders tho. My LA 115 , 15 years John Deere runs perfect with a 19.5 HP Briggs on it . I thank you for this video , never get too old to learn .,
Nice work!
I think I woulda got riid of the Nikki and replaced it with a Walbro!
Just went to Lowes the other day. The cheapest rider was $2,500
That's why I fix them. I think in total I had about $75 in parts and roughly 5hrs of my time. Could be done much faster, but trying to film and work makes it tough.
@@ffrepeat Good detailed video
Great job. 🍻 please keep them coming.👍
👍
If you polish a turd 💩it's still a turd 💩!🧐
But it’s a shiny turd, no scratch that a functional turd.
@@ffrepeat Classic, we share the same sense of humor ! 😂
