When I was about ten I was transphobic and homophobic. It wasn't because my beliefs aligned with that, it's because I was introduced to the topics by someone who was transphobic and homophobic. Once I was actually educated on the topic (and learned *GASP* they actually have feelings and emotions) I realized the error of my previous belief. Basically, you're very vulnerable and influenced by your peers when you're younger, she was probably influenced as well. I personally think this was a good apology.
