Thanks
You're welcome
That is would be the ultimate mountain delivery truck 🦾🦾
Need to fix the running an starting problem also.
Did you ever get this kit installed?
No, I have not. It's been put on a back burner. Other things have become a priority over this particular project.
Did it seem worth the time and investment?
It most certainly is worth it. Especially if you already need new front brakes. The cost of the parts for the dually hardware, isn't much more than the regular parts.
Just so you know antiseize is a good thing but the lug nuts will work loose using it. Keep an eye on them...
Been doing it for over 20 years. Never had an issue with it yet.
*60-0* 😎👍 I'm with you there, buddy. I'd rather have more stopping power any day 🔧
Absolutely. Especially when you're loaded heavy.
It’s amazing just how many iterations of different parts Chevy used in such a short period of time for these OBS trucks. All those upgraded brake parts will be worth it. Like you said, it’s more important to go from 60mph to Zero than vise versa. Happy New Year Wesley
At least back then, the different iterations meant upgrades. Not so true anymore. Yes, I've had too many close calls with people panic stopping, because they're going to miss their turn. Nobody pays attention anymore. Happy New Year Cody!
Good video of tearing it down Wesley. I picked up a M6-15 winch at an auction a few weeks ago & according to the serial number it is a 1966. It has a Char-lynn motor on it & I got it to turn over in one direction but not the other. The dog is stuck & has no linkage so it's locked in & the gearbox is full of grease. In your tear down video you mentioned you have a parts book. I've tried searching internet & can't find anything. If you have a parts book & or a shop manual about it I would like to get a PDF copy if that's what you have. If you see this message me back & I'll send my email address. Thanks for the vid so far, it helps.
I ended up a similar situation as you. I called Sam Winer Motors of Akron, OH and they were kind enough to send me some pictures of the parts book & gave me some specs for the winch. My email is in the about section of my channel. Send me an email & I'll forward what I have to you. I'd be interested in the model of the Char-lynn pump yours has & how the motor was mounted to the winch.
Looks like a usable unit Wesley. I agree with Zane. I would customize it to your specific needs. Take a little work, but would be well worth it.
It definitely looks the part. The biggest issue I have with it, is the fact that it's 37" tall. That's a bit of a hindrance for certain applications. I need to sort out some things first.
Some of the early octagon machines have copper windings , I own a 73 black face and all is copper but the starter packs . not sure why they did , your year is basic and bullet proof
Yeah, they definitely did some goofy things when they transitioned. I'm looking forward to being able to weld with it. It's going to be an interesting project!
Nice buy Wesley! 😎👍 I say go for the chop and make it how you want it 🔧
I'm definitely leaning towards it. I'm going to have to sort out some other things first.
@@WesleyJohnsonMI, I agree with Zane. I like the looks of a chopped SA200. Just peck away at the projects as you have time. Appreciate you recording it, and sharing with us! Merry Christmas! You as well Zane!😊
@haroldphipps3457 thanks, I appreciate the support! Chopped SA200s just look more streamlined to me. We'll see what happens in the next couple of months. Work & weather permitting. Merry Christmas to you too!
Those old continentals are great old engines. Reliable quiet power
I'll find out soon enough!
Wow, I love to hear Detroit engines!!!
Not sure if you will see this, but if you do. I have the same welder. Did a lot of work and had it running perfectly. It sat for a while and when I tried to start it there was no connection. Replaced the starter button, cleaned the switches and replaced the starter solenoid. Does this welder require a special solenoid. The new one off the shelf did not fix the problem. Electricals are not my specialty. Thought you my have some incite. Thanks.
Check the cleanliness of both the positive & negative connections. Oxidation and rust build up can & will cause issues that can mimic a bad solenoid. I don't recall off hand how the starter is grounded. Whether it's by a cable/strap or if it uses the mounting face to ground it. I would start with that first & if that doesn't fix it, it's time to dig deeper.
Where cai i find a original gas tank for a weld power 225?
@brianmorse9655 ebay would be your best bet. You could also look for one for the engine itself. You might have to retrofit a generic plastic/steel one to it. Or just build one.
You have OTHER problems dude. Possibly stuck or worn out brushes or panel board problem.
It's quite possible. But welding machines/generators have been known to lose their residual magnetism, especially when they sit for long periods of time unused. This particular machine did this 18 years ago when I first bought it, fixed itself & ran/operated fine. Then it started doing it again occasionally 4 years ago. It's a backup machine, I'm not that worried about it.
94 cluster with rpm gauge
I don't understand what you're trying to convey.
I have a 1993 GMC Sierra 2500. All my gauges go wild at times. When this is happening, the brake light comes on, and the heater stops, and there is a clicking noise. Also, if I over rev the engine, my guages go crazy. Any ideas?
Bad grounds and/or a short. There's 2 grounds that attach to the thermostat housing. One is for the cluster, the other is for the speedometer. Clean all of your connections on the under hood power distribution block. Also, there should be a 10/8 gauge that goes to your starter solenoid. Make sure that connection is clean and that it hasn't melted to the manifold. Pretty much clean up every power & ground connection that you can find under hood. Fix anything that looks questionable. It's 31 years old and the electrical was just above marginal for these trucks, when they were new.
Always nice to be able to look up on RUclips to find the right fix to a problem without having to pay someone else. 👍
It most certainly is! Especially older and more obscure things.
Kind of you to help out Wesley 😎👍
I try too. It's hard finding information on old equipment. This is why I started my channel.
Do you still have this welder? I have one just like it a 1986 model and I need a photo of governor to throttle linkage with the spring to know where the spring hooks up to get mine to run right. Briggs nor Lincoln has a shop manual that old anymore. Any diagram would be a lifesaver.
Give me a couple of days & I'll post a picture under the community tab. There should should be an arm next to the points cover, it has a multitude of holes drilled in it. That should be the governor arm. No two machines are the same. You might have to adjust the vertical threaded rod to fine tune it.
@@WesleyJohnsonMI my engine is on a welder with a Briggs # 326437 type 0758-01 and code 8512121. Jacks small engines has the diagram. If you look at part # 690545 this is the spring in question. It slides over the throttle linkage rod #691791 but where does it hook to ? Even the Briggs people didn't have an answer, LOL. It seems to run ok without it but surely it serves some purpose. Thanks for your reply.
WOW VERY SWEEEEET
Thanks!
Yo tengo una igual y el engrane de la marcha se desgasto
Which gear are you referring to?
Installed same exact mirror in my dads 97 3500 which already had the same mirror from the factory but with no temperature just compass and auto dim only. Went and got one from a 99 tahoe and put it in his truck. Installed the factory temeprature sensor from the tahoe and ran wires to the sensor from the mirror harness but used the power wires from the original mirror and it works great. The temperature is perfectly accurate as well. Planning on doing the exact same on the 97 cheyenne 3500 im fixing to buy.
Glad to hear that some of the factory wiring is the same between the two different mirrors. I definitely like the temperature and compass combo. It's also great that we can add some factory options to these trucks, that didn't come with them. Good luck on your next project!
My neighbor bought my 88 moon gauges for his 93 because he likes them. Is there a way to make them work with an adapter or something. Should I just give him his money back?
There's no adapter or an easy way to swap these gauges around. He will have to cut off his pigtail & wire in the appropriate pigtail for the moon gauges.
Puedo poner un cluster 92 a una Chevy 91 ?
Only if you get the wiring pigtail from the '92 harness & DRAC module. You'll then have to splice it into the '91 harness. It's not a fast & easy process.
So does the 1991 tach dash from a diesel work in a gas vehicle or gas work in a diesel? I know what you said about the '92 to '94 but does that same principle follow with the 1991?
The same principle applies to the '91 tach dash, just like the '92-'94. The diesel trucks use a pick up on the alternator. I'm sure that if you spent some time studying the wiring diagram, you could figure out the proper way to pin it. You can actually get the GM wiring schematic books on eBay fairly reasonably priced.
Do you need this tool if you just wanna lower the ride height via the torsion bar adjusting bolt?
For small adjustments, either up or down, you shouldn't have to. I do recommend raising the front wheels off of the ground though. Just measure the bolt protrusion of each side & adjust evenly. The adjustment bolts are lock tite in the nut.
More progress! 😎👍 Nice buddy!
Yup, just about got the chassis back together. It'll be on to manifolds and and wiring before too long!
Did you ever convert the brakes over to hydro max brakes. If so, do you have the part #
There is a part 1 for the hydro max brakes, go to my channel & look for the 1979 F600 4x4 playlist. It should be in there, with part numbers.
That’s a 300 IQ quick fix, but the real issue here is your field flashing circuit isn’t working right. Probably hasn’t for a while and you got away with it because the rotor was inherently magnetic enough to self flash. The flashing circuit sends power to the + brush of the rotor from the engine generator through an 8 amp fuse and a diode. It’s in the manual for the machine which is online and free. Easy and cheap to fix too. I love these machines and have fixed quite a few of them now. All the variations Lincoln made seem to be good machines other than the slip-ring issue they are prone to.
This has been an intermittent issue for the 18 years that I have owned and used this machine. It's never really bothered me, so I just deal with it. Thanks for the info though!
Man, that is a hassle Wesley. I’ve never seen one of those OBS Chevy axles torn apart like that. Definitely a more complex design than a simple straight axle. Good work though.👍
It is a hassle, but I was already tearing apart the front end. Might as well fix it while I'm in there. All depends upon what straight axle you're referring to. The dodge CAD axles are a pain themselves. It's just a matter of picking your poison. Thanks Cody, I appreciate it!
I have moon gauges in my 1991 chevy c2500. Same one you have
Late style moonie gauges. They are definitely easier to read than the early style moonie gauges.
@@WesleyJohnsonMI I love my gauges except my fuel gauge is a little funky 😂
@fluffy_snipez979 how so? Does it bounce or does it read off?
@@WesleyJohnsonMI it doesn't read accurately. It constantly moves. It tells me relatively how much I have but it isn't accurately at all
@@fluffy_snipez979 have you cleaned the ground wire on top of the frame, near the filler neck? Also, check out the grounds at/near the thermostat housing. They are known for causing some goofy things to happen with the cluster gauges.
All worth it in the long run my friend! 😎👍
It is! I'm trying my best to give this old truck all the best factory options from throughout the production run. Thanks for stopping by!
Awesome 👍
It certainly is!
What does the plug look like on a 92-94 style cluster? Can i use the dashboard from an 88 into a 94 and use the 94 cluster in the 88 dash ? Reason I ask is my 94 dashboard is badly cracked and I found an uncracked dash in a donor 88, but was told the opening for the gauge cluster wiring is different. Can i just open up the hole in the back of the dash itself and plug my 94 cluster into the 88 dash without issue? Would be using all the 94 wiring, only the dash itself would be from the 88. Well, the radio too.
The 92-94 cluster pigtail has 'fingers' on the plug. The early style dashes will work in the later years, but you will have to cut out the opening for the plug some. Just take your time doing it. If you search GMT400 dash swap or other similar phrases, you should be able to find some pictures of it. There's an individual in one of the forums, who did exactly what you're looking to do.
@@WesleyJohnsonMI@ amigo! If truck its already swapped! 89 gmc, Can i ignore the drac? If using 94 cluster!? Just by running the tach and soeed wire to ls pcm? Correct?
I had no idea there was that many options for those trucks back in the day. Pretty amazing how much longer they are compared to the NP241
Yup, 4 different Borg Warner cases, with a couple of different configurations for the K3500 trucks & NP241C & NP208c transfer cases for the K1500 & K2500 trucks. Not just longer either, the whole case is considerably larger. The Borg Warner case just dwarfs the New Process case.
Can any of these transfer cases bolt up to any th350-400 transmissions?
They should bolt up to the TH400, with the proper transfer case adapter. The TH400 & 4L80E share the same output shaft size. The TH350 shares the same (smaller) output shaft size as the 700r4 & 4L60E and will not work with the Borg Warner transfer case. Remember, the Borg Warner cases need a switched power for the clutch pack.
Nice job with the explanation on the transfer cases. You ain't kidding, the size difference between them is pretty crazy! 😦 Work is work buddy, that stuff always comes first. 🔧
Thanks! I'm still constantly learning new things about this era of trucks. Yeah, the size difference is kinda mind blowing! Gotta work so I can keep putting money into my projects!
👍
Hi i have a 1993 chevy cheyenne and sitting in park revving up the motor the speedometer goes way up into the 60 mph zone and driving it realling bounces around clear up to 80 mph when im only going around 30 mph do you know what my problem would be ? it's a v-6 engine. i was going to check speedometer cable but looking at your clusters they don't use a cable mine is like the one you have on top right. Thanks.
Yeah, they stopped using cables with the square bodies. Check the grounds near the thermostat housing and the plug behind the ashtray. I have a video titled 'fixing a bouncing speedometer' in one of my playlists. It'll either be in the 1992 K1500 or the GMT400 playlist. Be sure to read the comments, I've helped a couple of others out with their problems.
What a Boss truck. Where is it now? I've got a 1952 F6 that rides like a drag box over rockey ground, but the sound of its flathead V8 is somthing else.
I still own it. It's sitting out back waiting on time, money & ambition. There's a whole playlist on my channel dedicated to this truck.
Its alive!!!
Machines’ definitely seen some hard use, but it’s cool that the engine still has good compression after all these years. Have a lot of respect for guys who ran those for a living compared to what we have in today’s market.
I've seen (and bought) machines in a lot worse shape. But the key thing is, that it was maintained. They even went as far as turning the pins & bushings in it. I do too. Those old machines definitely beat you up through out the day. Most operators won't even run a machine if it doesn't have a cab with heat & a/c.
It's worn but still very usable Wesley 🙂👍 Happy to see you help him with getting the engine un-stuck. Have a safe trip back 🔧🔩
It's very much both! He's excited to get it running & put back in service. Thanks!
Good to hear from you again! Those undercarriage parts are going to be hard to find. It might take some, or maybe more, imagination getting it up to par. Cool old machine, though. I'm glad it got saved with the added bonus of being a family heirloom. Cheers Terry
Thanks! Outage season has kept me busy. Not too concerned about the undercarriage right now. It's not going to be used much. I do have some old Caterpillar literature about refurbishing undercarriage with weld build up. But that's down the road. I'm glad that it got saved too. The machine is actually in pretty good shape considering what it's been through. The new owner is definitely excited about it.
Midland. Neon lights
They've got a bunch of good songs. I'm glad that I found them.
Thanks much,
Is it possible to put the moon gauge one (90s) on a 93?
Never tried it, most people want a factory tach dash. The biggest problem is going to be the drac/vssb. The moonie gauges are built in internally to the cluster, where the '92-'94 are external.
I have an Insley just like that. What is the hydraulic oil capacity? I have some work to do to it.
If memory serves me correctly, it's around 150 gallons.
@@WesleyJohnsonMI Thats more than I thought. I'm about to bring one home any time now that has sat for 8 years and had no oil when I bought it. Changed a couple of hoses, put a cylinder back together and fixed a few other things. It's about ready to fire up and try out before getting it on a truck.
@@be2570w gotcha. Yeah, the H875 has quite the reservoir. The H560 will obviously be smaller. There are 3 magnetic pickup screens on the passenger side, in a tank just below the pumps. There's a plate that unbolts from the bottom. I'd clean that out before filling the system. Does yours have a 4-71 detroit or a cummins in it?
@@WesleyJohnsonMIThanks. I'll look for the plate. It has a 4-71
Hey man. Do you know where I could find the fuel pump for this thing?
Bought mine off of Amazon. Do a Google search for Kohler CH20 fuel pump. Should be able to get a part number that way.
