Why do people that drive convertibles lock their cars?

It does seem like overkill, it is essentially a multi story garage for people who are incapable of going up and down ramps. I don't think I would use it either, I'd be too scared that my car would be swapped with another lol

I am a customer there. The system had a ton of problems in the past. Everything from mechanical failures to software issues. The software was written by graduates fresh off uni who sat in the technician's cabinet for months trying to work the kinks out of the system, and even then there were tons of issues like the garage simply claiming that your car was not parked there. It was apparent the developers just lacked the experience to work on a complex realtime system with so many moving and interlocked parts. The maintenance technicians also had years of nightmares there. One technician had a platform start to move and hit his head, he went to the hospital and then came back with a bandaged head to finish the work (!). But most importantly, the system is so mechanically complex that it is very prone to failure. Box 2 has been out of service for half a year now (May 2014 at the time of writing) and is just being used as tire storage for the owner. And if the system is not at fault, the other drivers will make sure that you will be stuck for hours there by not correctly parking their car, just giving up and leaving the car in the box (!) - as if to say "let someone else sort out my messy driving". And if that all works by miracle some other guy forgets to engage the parking brake, causing his car to roll off the platform underground, and grinding the whole system to a standstill. This is the Windows Vista of parking garages. Kudos to the maintenance technicians to eventually got it running reasonably well, but shame on the developers of that whole thing.

I once thought I had invented this method of parking based on the Numbers game in a square you got as a child sixteen spaces and fifteen squares you shuffled them round till they where in order! we have something better in Miami and because of how much more space can be utilized when parking cars with a system like that (no need to open doors, driveways, room to walk etc) it's actually about the average price, the trick is that were it used to park 40 cars, now it parks about 150... maybe 200, depending on the project.

Kind of flimsy the platform used, isn't it? maybe that's why you choose to park a "light" car...

The maintenance crews in japan and Germany are more educate the the people of the united states, the up keep on this kind of equipment would be extremely expensive because you would have to hire high trained people to do it, the good-ol-boys in this country have no were near the skills needed to keep this machine running.
