I went to visit some friends in Oregon who i had a fantastic summer with the year before. I got up there in April. Nobody was home. So i drove way up this logging road to a place that overlooked the lake where they had a house. I was smoking some colombian red which made me paranoid. I went to leave but was stuck in the mud on a down slope. The only 8 track tape i had was the Allman Brothers. So i tried to sleep in the back seat as it started to snow. Dreams was playing over and over as i got more worried and depressed. That song matched the scene i was in perfectly. I got out sticking my Army jacket under the wheels. I drove down to see my cousin at the lake. He had just gotten a divorce. I went to see a girlfriend who i saw the summer before and she was depressed because she had just been put in a foster home. Then my transmision went out. He had it fixed for me and was glad to see his uninvited guest leave. So i drove back home to California while listening to dreams that i never saw. I will never forget that trip and how spooky that song was for me alone at the top of the hill. The perfect soundtrack for a miserable time.

You are the true believer ! I just about done the same, but wasn't stuck in the snow. I ran out of gas with my friends onboard. On our way to The Brothers concert in, i think, 1970.

If you listen close when they go into the first instrumental of this song you can hear Dickey playing Da da dit da da…only does it twice in the first stanza.. they never played it after… leading me to believe it might have been Duane… saw them in Sept. of ‘71 and you really couldn’t tell when they switched up who was playing lead…Derek and Warren never played it with that hook…never

I think I remember the first time I heard this song. I was riding in a car with a friend and I think it was 1972 in Warner Robins Georgia. That was about 20 miles from Macon. Was kind of a cloudy overcast rainy day which we didn't have a lot of down there but I remember the somewhat eerie sound of the song the feeling I got when I heard it which I will never forget. That's eerie and awesome of course. I started out as a Black Sabbath , Led Zeppelin and mostly hard rock fan they are still great to me especially on their records sometimes live performances of them somewhat lacking in my opinion. I've listened to some of these original Allman Brothers songs hundreds probably thousands of times and it's the only band I still listen to pretty much on a daily basis. The most amazing American band ever. The Brits can fight it out over there.

We're practically neighbors. A guy named Flip Jones, who's one of the best guitar players I've ever heard much less played in the band with as a huge Dwayne Allman fan and he can nail those licks like nobody's business. He was lead guitar for a band called the US kids. I start to play on with them when I was about 17. Drummer was JC Cruz and a guy named Lee Godfrey on vocals. We used to play some things with Mike Causey and the two of those guys were just killer guitar players. All influenced by Dwayne.
