Stan Lee created quite a winner, because Spiderman is so human that we wonder what we would do had we those powers. Tom's Spiderman said it all when Tony Stark asked why he plays the vigilante when Stark recruits Peter in Civil War. Even our own mundane life, we also must face decisions on whether each of us could make a difference for the good of mankind. We must also face failure and learn from it. Obviously, Tom in his very early years connected with the character in this way, because it shows in public. Not just his acting or athleticism, but his emotional intelligence shines through his interactions with others and his charity.
