Deer Hunt Colorado 3rd season 2022 --- JS HUNTER

My 2022 3rd season Colorado Mule Deer Hunt with an unwanted leftover tag proved to be a memorable one. I experienced some harsh elements, time with a good friend, and success. Thanks for watching my first serious attempt at film production! JS HUNTER

During Bethany's cow elk hunt we repeatedly had animals walking our direction and getting very close. Deer like this slowed progres since we didn't want to spook them off into the calm woods.
Great video! Nice bull!
Outstanding presentation! Shots are great and simply diverse!
Good effort man and way to stick throughout. I know the unit you are hunting and there are way too many buck tags.
Good stuff
Wonderful hunt great video
Nice work! Ears and legs are a good size indicator, the longer those are compared to everything else, typically the younger the bear.
Where did you get that digital thermometer?
You didn’t just point the camera at yourself for the whole video. One of the better elk hunting videos I’ve seen
Never pass up on the first day what you would settle for on the last day.
Great experience and congratulations on challenging the elk and the elements. And coming out victorious. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks a lot! I feel lucky to have experiences like these, and glad to share.
What a Badass..
What zone are you in?
About as good as it gets so well videoed Thank you for bring me back to my memories
Thank you sir! Always happy to share and glad that others appreciate it.
Impressive multitasking with the cameras! The amount of discomfort and effort it requires for these hunts is difficult to capture. Well done.
Yeh, it's challenging to focus on the hunt but also on trying to capture it. Fortunately my camera set-up is pretty forgiving. Thanks for watching!
What a great hunt! Solo is not for the faint of heart!
Thanks for watching! Yeh, hunts like this are what keeps me going.
Can’t stand a lot of hunting videos that just take every opportunity to promote products. Excellent job showing a good realistic hunt! Tough doing your own filming.
I appreciate it! It takes a lot of effort to focus on capturing the experience myself, so Im glad you feel that way. And really there shouldnt be any marketing of products when filming on public land without a filming permit for legal reasons, but that doesnt stop many people.
I dont leave comments, but you did a fantastic job hiking the meat and head out. Solo camera and great attitude. I always hunt solo. Better connection with the wild. Congrats !
Thanks a lot. As you probably know, it takes years of hunting to develop these routines and to really appreciate your time in the wild. Happy hunting!
Great Hunt and Video! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Thanks a lot! Always glad to share, and will have a new sweet deer hunting video up soon .
Hey JS, do you have a sense of his distance from you (straight line) from you when you first saw him?
He was about 1000 yds away when I spotted him. Of course my route was a much farther hike as I was trying to avoid being upwind. Thanks for watching!
@@JSmithHunter Got it. Thank you.
They don't show the 4 other guys packing there gear
To be fair I did cheat a little by renting llamas this time. Normally I pack out the elk and gear myself in 4 trips which takes days. Thanks for watching!
You shot boo boo
what kind of rifle?
Great hunt. Great video. Solo is an amazing experience. The older I get I find that no wants to go in anymore. The last 8 years 100% success tho. Elk and two deer. Helps feed all 13 grand kids we have. Glad to see the younger folks out getting it done. Keep the passion alive.
Thanks, I appreciate that! Yeh, hunting can be very challenging and our society doesnt really encourage people to push themselves that hard or to kill for meat. The value one gets from hunting is tremendous. It sounds like you know where its at and are really busy trying to keep up with the grandkids! Thanks for watching.
What a clean kill, well done!
Thanks man! There's something about those 175gr 7mm Bergers that puts the animals down fast.
Those boot chains have saved my ass packin heavy loads in those conditions on steep terrain. Great elk man!
Yeh, those chains are some of the more important pieces of gear for rough conditions. Thanks for watching!
Really good video! Thanks for sharing. What camera body and lens did you use on this hunt?
Thanks! I mainly just used a GoPro 11, no lens, on a selfie stick. Also my S22 Ultra phone, and a phone skope on my Kowa 55mm spotter. Nothing fancy, but it does pretty well for solo hunting.
@@JSmithHunter great quality with that gear. We are the same over on my channel.
You did a nice job on the video.
Thanks for watching!
Sorry but you could have done better glassing. Way too young to have been taken.
I agree. The excitement overwhelmed me and I acted too quickly. Thanks for watching!
Very impressive, nothing better in the world!!
Thanks a lot. Yeh, there's definitely something about getting it done and suffering a bit while deep in wilderness that has a way of making a man feel whole.
Great video!
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Nice job. What’s the thermometer you have?
Thanks sir! Its the ThermoWorks Zipper-pull.
Great footage! Loved the terrain
Thank you! There's something about that terrain that keeps pulling me back. I'll be back in there this fall with a bear tag.
I have a dumb idea. How can I contact you?
A dumb idea sounds like you're cooking up an adventure! Find me at Jsmith_hunter on Instagram. I just got that account so there's nothing on it, but I'll start developing it.
Heck of a shot!!! Dumped him!!
Thanks man! Yeh, that Berger did its job!
Great hunt !
Thanks for watching!
hardcore buddy-great bull & video. thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching and always happy to share!
Beautiful hunt, beautiful shot, hope you and the family are enjoying him!
Thanks a lot! The elk is definitely being enjoyed. Now if I can get back the Euro mount already so I can stare at him on my wall!
a 73 pound pack is ridiculous and irresponsible. You need to cut weight where you can. That being said the videography was very impressive for being solo and also hunting.
It was heavy, but it's really not that bad given how hard I train year-round for this. I am always looking for ways to reduce weight, but in this case since I had a base camp I wasnt overly concerned. Thanks for watching and your comment!
Thank you for the effort in recording your experience and sharing it with the rest of us. And congratulations! Nice bull. God bless, Miles
Thank you, and glad to share! It's more or less a video diary for myself, but if others are enjoying it that's even better.
Really cool video man great work!
Thanks PNWild! You have some great films out there, so I really appreciate that.
awsome hunt i give you a lot of credit for doing it solo. what state are you in i enjoy your videos
Thanks a lot! I live in CO but I hunt other states as well, and I try not to give out too much info. So many great hunts out there to be had! As for hunting solo, it's almost a spiritual experience for me, and therapeutic.
Hi Sir i am thinking of bear hunting solo in Idaho Panhandle, i can't get anyone of my friends to get in shape. i am in very good shape and work out three times per week. i don't mind hiking up a few miles in mountains to find a bear. i bought a Ruger American 270 with vortex scope what do you think and can i ask what state you hunt? pete...
Sounds like you've got the making for a good adventure! I'll give you a hint- this video wasn't filmed far from you. I made a point to look for the most rugged wilderness area around and I found it. I try not to give away the state I hunt in, but I hunt multiple states in the west (CO, ID, MT, NM, AZ, WY are my focus).
Snowshoes are cheap
I own snowshoes but it's hard to justify packing them for light use. My goal was to stay below snow line, just happened into a snow field or two... Thanks for watching!
Yessir cant go wrong with Leupold Optics 👊 Great hunt man "Rain Snow or Shine still getting the Job Done" 💪
Thanks! Leupold is a great brand, and the VX-5 is a great blend of durability and weight. As for weather, hunts are always memorable with bad weather!
Where did you get the thermometer that’s attached to your backpack?
Garage Grown Gear is where I found the thermometer. Lots of cool, unsual things there. Thanks for watching!
Great solo hunt and incredible shot! well done how much does a lama guide charge to come pack that out for you?
Thanks a lot! The llamas I rented from Shining Mtn Llamas were $85/day, and you retrieve your meat yourself with them, since anyone coming with pack animals would need a hunting guide license.
lol I would have called horse or mule guys and rode instead of walked with llamas! Sweet bull man nice work!
Where I hunted only licensed guides can retrieve your meat. i called up the local guides and all of them don't pack meat unless they guide you. Guess it's not worth their time. I was only able to secure 2 llamas also. Plus I would feel cheated if I didn't have to pack out some meat, almost like enduring a form of suffering as a way to show respect to the animal. Thanks for watching!
Amazing video! Congrats on a nice bull.
Thanks!
i can understand you shooting the first bear but you should never have shot that little cub that was sick!!
Sweet. I have done a lot of Colorado backpack hunting, though usually from base camp to spike camps. A lot of fun and a lot of work. I had an Alaskan Guide backpack from Cabelas which isn't the most comfortable frame, but it was affordable and better than most at the time. Carried a lot of meat out on my back over the years. Nice bull, great shot.
Awesome! There are so many options with base camp vs spike camp vs carrying camp on your back. Yeh, I wouldn't say thats a high-end pack, but whatever gets you out there is all that matters really. Thanks for watching!
