"rational individuals, with self interest, will not act to achieve their own common or group interests ". OLSON, Mancur. The logic of collective action. Cambridge, Harvard University Press, 1977, page 2. I open my argument with the previous quote. People not getting together in organizations is not a new phenomenon, as Olson stated. Other approach made by psychologist and sociologist Sam Vaknin states that nowadays individuals are becoming solipsistic, schizoid, solitary. Lack of trust in organizations will be more common in the future. In Japan there are classes to learn how to date. Virtual reality will increase that trend.

Timely; Lithuania has the factual & experiential history of who Russia is & the reign of terror it brings with its imperial expansion. During the past 30 years, the US government aggressively embarked on Western corporate globalization. Western globalization exponentially grew the economies of China, India, Middle East, & South America and massively enriched their governments. Today, the US is locked in fierce economic and political competion with each of them. US globalization created an intense challenge and race for economic dominance among the major powers of China, India, Middle East, South America, and Africa in the wings. Holding one's economic dominance demands political and military dominance. We, the citizens of planet Earth are now faced with the high probability of a global war. The US corporate aggression for global economic dominance has placed the regional and national security of each democratic country in jeopardy, while eroding the global security of the US. The appeasement policies of the US towards authoritarian & imperial regimes were guided by the profit demands of their transnational corporations and it's corporate oligarchs. The elected officials of the US government and the governments of its major Western partners have been reduced to corporate handmaidens doing the bidding of their corporate oligarchs rather than ensuring their national and regional security. Each continues to minimize the threat facing them; the Baltic States and President Zelensky stand in strong contrast to them.

Hmm... I think one should keep a close eye on the development of the NB8 format of cooperation, regarding the development in this region.. It appears to me that since Finland & Sweden has joined NATO, the development of NB8 cooperation has evolved a lot, & there is a considerable inherent potential there.. while that region only has somewhere around 30-33 mil inhabitants, it has a total GDP of 2+ trillion US$. It is also one of the most innovative regions in the world, & while like many other regions it outsourced much of it's industries over the last 30 years, it still has the capacity to rebuild it. Working together, I think these nations have the potential to become a democratic powercentre/counterweight in the geopolitics now evolving..🧐

When experts and authorities adopt ideological agendas, they abandon their role of impartial, evidence-based guidance. Instead, they become promoters of a particular worldview, which can lead to harmful consequences. Credentialism is advanced by indoctrination to shallow uncritical imprudent fashionable orthodoxy. By prioritizing ideology these professionals unaware, betray the trust placed in them, have no independent thought to imagine valid resistance, unintentionally foster societal distrust and feelings of betrayal, among those who relied on their expertise and can see the problems which are minimized or redefined as success. Once trust is gone, society collapses into permanent strife and conflict. Partisan Populists rise and exploit this for their own flawed simplified narratives and ideologies and trust keeps falling. Welcome to America 2024.

I recommend everyone read or listen to Jonathan Haidt’s work, among many others who see the ever tightening false world view being imposed by the ascendant progressive left, where family is erased for queer glitter families, where trans ideology has male women and real women reduced to body parts and called bigots for saying no to male colonization. And DEI ideology with diversity reduced to identity categories and oppressor/oppressed forced framework, punishes hard work and success which hurts Asian students more than Europeans, and inclusion that says all boundaries are oppressive.

Thank you, Dr. Fukuyama (or as I like to think of you, Uncle Frank*). I don’t lay all the lack of trust at the feet of MAGA, Donald Trump, or even the GOP generally. Nor is all of the lack of trust unjustified, given our political history. The Democrats have certainly done their fair share of dirty deeds which you have witnessed and even experienced (thinking of Roosevelt and EO 9066). Trump represents what is hopefully a peak of distrust, although he will escalate distrust and polarization if elected. Even if he isn’t elected, he is not going away. But I don’t think it can be argued that he was and is the “man of the moment”, harnessing what was already there and pumping it up to fulfill his ambitions. I parenthetically touched on the unjust imprisoning of loyal Americans by FDR because I think this is a case study in the topic being discussed. After the concentration camps, Japanese-Americans had good reason to distrust the government and the country as a whole. But the overwhelming majority remained loyal Americans. Perhaps in some cases there was a specific distrust (my grandmother became a life long Republican and never voted for a Democrat again, but she didn’t hate Democrats), as opposed to a general mistrust. I think we should study this ugly episode of our history with a focus on the topic of trust. Likely it has already been studied. In any case, we need to take the lessons learned (or to be learned) and bring them into the debate. * My fond nickname for you. We’re not actually related. [A side note: I recently saw an exhibit on immigration from Japan and the Japanese American in the camps at the Japanese American National Museum in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. I’m already familiar with the history and I’ve seen many of the photographs on display. Nevertheless it was quite moving to see them all together, as well as artifacts and photos I hadn’t seen before. One thing was very special. It is a book with the names of all the people imprisoned in the concentration camps. With the help of a specialist, I found my mother’s name (Margaret Iwasaki) in the book. I placed a dot under her name to represent that I was there as a member of her family, a witness to her unjust treatment. Again, it was quite moving, even more so than the more general exhibit. If the book makes its way to your neck of the woods, I urge you to go see it if you can.]

Culturally, sure. I think that sensibility saw its political expression with the GOP’s takeover of Congress in 1994. There’s a direct line: Limbaugh, Gingrich, W Bush, Trump. To treat 2016 as the turning point is to confuse cause and effect. Conservatism had achieved its positive goals of ending even the legitimacy of the New Deal and victory in the Cold War by the 1990s. They lost focus after that, descending into the losing strategy of social conservatism. FWIW, Liberalism was in the same boat in the 2010s. The Crisis is in Imagination.

The USA pressures countries with blackmail, if you don’t vote our way we are going to destroy your economy. This is not an effective foreign policy strategy

Have to listen to this a second time, the six Justices are not for the little guy. The Right has figured out that if they give the MAGAs all the no cost, not any one's business issues the MAGAs will elect them so that the Right can change existing laws for their actual constituents: Major Corporations and the Billionaires. It will be too late when even the MAGAs will see what the Right has done and how much it affects their lives.

Oh, the person who predicted the end of history, who supports US imperialism, claims a no war president is a threat to his moronic proposal to invade otjer countries in the name of "democracy.". Fukuyama is a threat to the basic ideals of the founding of the US.
