It is a disaster. You have covered the unreliability issue, but the running cost per hour, is impossible to meet for most countries. Coupled to that fact, is that only 29% of these aircraft are available at any one time, because the rest are in the work shop. Those figures are for the f-35A which is more reliable than the B model, but I dont have work shop figures for the B model, but they would be worse than 29% grounded at any one time. These are supposed to be fighters and ground strike planes, but they dont do either job well. With only one engine, they are so underpowered that they cant reach mach 1 without afterburners and will overheat if the afterburners are used for more than a short time. It is a fighter that is too slow, without the momentum to maneuver, it is a sitting duck for other fighters. In its ground attack role, it is little better, because it cant carry a reasonable payload of weapons. Russia, South Korea, Turkey and China are building far better alternatives.

US & its manufacturer suffered no financial losses as they scammed their allies, had them pay more than enough for the R&D as contribution with carrot of sharing tech & lowering costs !! Ahhhh.....that's what the US is about !@#$
