1.8 billion years of tectonic motion with geologic eras and periods
This tectonic dance of Earth's plates over nearly half Earth's history was created by Xianzhi Cao based on our recent study (Cao et al. 2024 www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1674987124001464) integrating the geology of the world with high-quality palaeomagnetic data.

Global plate reconstruction between 330 and 150 million years ago, showing the distribution of major ocean basins and continental plates at 1 Myr intervals. An approximation for the extent of the continents is shaded brown and present-day coastlines are shaded green. Black lines with triangles indicate subduction zones, and black lines denote mid-ocean ridges and transform faults. The tropics, ...

Interesting lion dynamics on the Pom Pom private concession, Okavango delta, Botswana (24 May2014). The lioness is in a heat but the male is not the dominant in the pride - perhaps that explains why she is not so welcoming? She is the grandmother of the cute cub (7 months old) that is getting in the way. If you listen carefully and you will hear the distant roars of the dominant male (about 100...

Ooo Wow that's a cool simulation of mantle dynamics. Did you use CitcomS or CitcomCU package, Prof. Flament. @ekeiram8.

Aside from tracking it doesn't seem there's anything to do to control the growth of these "blobs" which is well...terrifying.

What kind of technology they used to discovered this phenomenon?

Hello! We used scientific software to compute and visualise mantle convection. CitcomS and GPlates were used to compute the model, and Paraview was used to visualise it.

@@ekeiram8 Can we use gamma ray - X ray spectrum analysis with a special device for example to have a proof of the existence of this phenomenon???

@@StefanosBand seismologists have developed a technique to image Earth's interior. It is called seismic tomography (see for example en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seismic_tomography).

I wonder if the depletion of fossil fuels is causing an imbalance in the Earth? Perhaps the fossil fuels are important in the Earth's biology.
