What a great academic engagement?❤
Intelligent conversation!
Inspirational. Thank you.
There's no way that you can learn ifa in English. Anybody who wants to understand ifa properly and deeply will have to learn it in yoruba language. We muslims do claims that anybody who wants to understand the Quran properly has learned it in Arabic.
Why should any African who has an understanding of African history want anything to do with Islam. Islam destroyed and is still destroying our culture. Converts bear Arabic names, whats is wrong with African names? We were enslaved by Arabs practicing Islam. A brutal slave trade, I dear say worse than the European slave trade. Our brothers and sisters are still oppressed in Sudan. Morrocan muslims destroyed muslim Timbuktu for its wealth. They enslaved renowned scholars like Ahmed Baba. Perhaps its time we looked inwards and returned to our own indigenous religions which predate Islam or Christianity and are peaceful. Thank you.
Great conversation.. am a content developer In the Gĩkũyũ language Wikipedia and I was very happy to hear Prof. Salawu mention the site.. I still hope to see more African indigeneous activity on the site.
I have liked the conversation
You should be working to decolonize systemic racism and provide equal opportunities for people..that doesn't mean destroy the country for lack of better words. Progress and equal opportunities for ppl should be the goal, not devolving.
Great job, God bless you all
African Pentecostalism and its distinctiveness in the 21st century: a case study of the Church of Pentecost African Pentecostalism, particularly exemplified by the Church of Pentecost, showcases several distinct characteristics in the 21st century, reflecting both its historical roots and contemporary realities. Here are some key aspects: Explosive Growth: African Pentecostalism has experienced remarkable growth in the 21st century, with millions of adherents across the continent. The Church of Pentecost, founded in Ghana in 1953, has expanded rapidly, establishing branches not only in Ghana but also in other African countries and around the world. This growth is driven by a combination of factors including dynamic evangelism, emphasis on personal spiritual experiences, and effective use of media and technology for outreach. Charismatic Worship: Worship in African Pentecostal churches like the Church of Pentecost is marked by vibrant and expressive forms of worship, including energetic singing, dancing, and speaking in tongues. The emphasis on spiritual gifts such as prophecy, healing, and deliverance adds to the fervor of worship services. Holistic Ministry: The Church of Pentecost, like many African Pentecostal churches, engages in holistic ministry that addresses not only spiritual needs but also social, economic, and health-related challenges facing its members and communities. This includes initiatives such as education programs, healthcare services, and poverty alleviation efforts. Strong Leadership: African Pentecostal churches typically have strong and charismatic leaders who play a central role in guiding the church and shaping its doctrine, practices, and mission. These leaders often have a prophetic or apostolic authority, which is respected and followed by the members. Adaptation to Local Contexts: While African Pentecostalism shares common theological and experiential elements with its counterparts in other parts of the world, it also reflects the cultural and social contexts of Africa. The Church of Pentecost, for example, incorporates indigenous cultural elements into its worship and ministry practices, making it relevant and accessible to its predominantly African congregations. Emphasis on Prosperity and Success: Like many Pentecostal movements globally, African Pentecostalism often emphasizes prosperity theology, which teaches that God desires financial and material blessings for believers. This message resonates with many Africans seeking hope and empowerment in the face of poverty and socio-economic challenges. Missionary Zeal: African Pentecostal churches, including the Church of Pentecost, are increasingly becoming major players in global missions, sending out missionaries to other parts of Africa and beyond. This reflects a shift from being recipients of missionary efforts to active participants in global evangelization. Overall, African Pentecostalism, as exemplified by the Church of Pentecost, continues to evolve and exert a significant influence on the religious, social, and cultural landscape of the continent and the world at large in the 21st century. This is great! Congratulations sir
Amazing stuff, thank you to all the great minds who put this together. 🎉
I'm not convinced....
Thank you to all the participants and Professor Falola.
Great discussion, was nice to hear Oyerenke speak, did a bit of reading on her works during my PhD. However, thanks to Sabelo for his response to Oyerenke's confusion. As a decolonial scholar, I believe most scholars especially those from the postcolonial school, tend to get caught up in the so called universal thinking spaces, ergo academic orthodox. Again, thanks to Sabelo for responding to that. I was also pleased to see Walter and Nelson.
Hi! I was wondering if you could please point to the specific timestamp of Prof Sabelo's response?
Great panelists and discussion !👏🏾
The philosophical, scientific, and religious potentials of IFA and its actual performative acts are represented and analyzed in Fashina (2009, 2010) " Ifa Literary Corpus and the Integration of Epistemology".
Dear Professor Toyin Falola, sir, there's the need for an exclusive Interview on the interface of tripod epistemes - IFA, (CHRISTIANITY/ISLAM) RELIGION & TRADO MEDICINE.
Over 2million subscribers...that is wonderful,a great progress.
I am impressed with Madam Samia's interview. God bless Ghana. And Good question to Hon Samira Nkrumah and hope she will give it a good thoughts about the need to follow her great father's dreams and fulfill it. Hope ÇPP will progress to come up in full swing, under the leadership of Madam Samia Nkrumah. Even, CPP comes to be in opposition, that will be fine and good start.
It was a great day to the new and old students.
God bless you seun kuti ❤❤❤

My prince, I have learn a lot about art from you over the years. While growing up as a sister to you. I noticed how much you love arts, but I thought that you will grow out of it. However you have made it a hobby that has turned to passion for you. Brother mi, am very proud of you. ❤❤
Secondly, I am showing my sincere gratitude to my Esteemed Prince, for the great and outstanding works and contributions in the African art society also helping to preserve both modern contemporary art and cultural artifacts. Thank you my Prince.

This is one of the most enlighten and educational conversation which needs permanent documentation for future references. Now, my question is, where is the way forward in our cultural innovative system? We Africans dwell somuch in our past glory and forget more creation of our cultural antiquities or artifacts. Technological innovation is no where to be found.
A lot to learn and imbibe. Thank u so much
Quite an interesting session. Big kudos to the organizers for putting this together
A powerful take away for me is when the President said We need an Organized, Conscious and Active Youth to lead us.
Very strong youth movement for South Africa and make a decisive contribution in rebuilding the country.
According to President Thabo Mbeki, the fear of counter-revolution felt by the ANC resulted in the policy choice by the the ANC to perpetuate a discriminatory child grants system dating from apartheid during the 1995-1999 period. Is the fear of counter-revolution greater than the damage of 300 years of racist colonialism. What is the meaning of liberation if supposedly successful liberation movements keep looking over their shoulders and decide to continue with racist discrimination to prevent a counter-revolution? Isn't freedom worth dying for?
A lot of people share your sentiment. The struggle did not yield the expected end for many, even outside South Africa. However, the revolutionary/ liberation process is yet ongoing, even if the armed phase is over. Whatever change South Africans want to see must now come through democratic resolutions. Like president Mbeki hinted, an organized youth is key to whatever transformations we aim at going forward. So, organize, articulate your aspirations and unite behind them. Utilize your democratic rights, rise up to your civic duty and let your voices be heard.
Thank you so much for this 4hours plus video.

Seun Kuti is a smart and knowledgeable guy. I can pay just to listen to him speak.
…so we are back to square one. Economic security Cultural security Border security These are the three key areas a country that defines itself as such needs to address. Nigeria has failed miserably on all accounts. China has 9 political parties in practice, 8 of which are minor and they actively contribute to the political process, although the CCP has overall control. The question is by whose standards are we measuring the concept of democracy? The US ? Well today that country is effectively running an ‘inverted totalitarian’ state if we are honest. Professor Wolin astutely coined this word and was effectively correct. Who is next the EU? Dare I deconstruct that aberration? The U.K. ? Is the U.K. truly democratic ? I mean seriously…if we think about it are people really close to power today in the U.K.? Why was Brexit such and issue where a set of shadowy people tried and continue to try to overturn what appears to be a democratic wish? What is liberal democracy ? Nigeria is way too incompetent and corrupt to be a large country. Diversity, a new buzz word or a cop out used by the current oligarchy to create a diversion, is an entrenched illusion. But the issue is far deeper. There are deep cultural differences that have been suppressed which needed to be celebrated and expressed but instead we have today a fake construct. In the end everyone suffers in silence. The only beneficiaries of this suppression is the political class and the ring of oligarchy that protects it. What are leftist policies ? I struggle with this concept, why because I see it as a red herring. These are just vehicles used to link the political ruling class. Change is not what leftists want, acceptance into the ranks is what they truly yearn for. The US democrat party is a working example of this. The so called progressives are nothing but a mirage. They are the complete opposite of progressive ideas. The current constitutional framework can never, not in a million years provide good governance or indeed address the needs and aspirations of the people. The hi-jackers have ensured that all bridges are burnt down in this regard. We are back to the central question. Nigeria is a construct. Professor Olorode hits on the point accurately. It is an ‘illusion’ and the ruling political elite, corrupt I may add have rode that horse for decades, but we are at the cliff edge now and that violence as a pushback is about to erupt; this is actually a foregone conclusion now. The short answer is neo-liberalism itself is a completely bankrupt philosophy. This is not a philosophy that should be adopted by the new configuration of this landmass which I hope will be born the day after the inevitable collapse. Socialism itself is an imperialist conception. We need to completely break away from these dogmas and build societies according to our own reflection. What do we want as a people? To find that out we first need to define our nationalities or re-define it and to to get to this point we need self determination, it’s really is that simple. 1986 as mentioned the world bank informed Nigeria in Harare it did not require university education, what it needed was basic education. This is a revelation and further investigation is needed to track down all the culprits of Nigerian extraction that were involved in that conversation. India is a closer comparison to use not Singapore or Malaysia. India had the luck and astuteness to complete the separation and as a consequence Pakistan was born which in turn gave birth to Bangladesh after a bloody war. In India the real tensions with large states like Punjab who sought for self determination is real despite the centre managing to keep a lid on it. But broadly these regions have their autonomy now. Let’s not forget about Goa where troops were sent in to suppress the agitation. Today Goa and the people truly believe their distinctness from India and in reality have a much closer tie with Portugal and yet still harbour a grudging annoyance towards India that they consider still as an overseer. These feelings are deep and no amount of coersion can change this. India is a much better example as it is a patch work of nationalities. It has been lucky but it is not a country really at peace and that has stunted its growth. It is still poles apart in comparison to Nigeria and will continue to be. I suspect the accident of history will soon see India rise. As the world splits now into two geopolitical zones the real energy is clearly coming from Asia. With China and Russia clearly aligned the possibilities of that geo political block is endless. With India joining or at least staying on the fence that will elevate India to new heights and through this new economic prosperity maybe a nation or a republic of India will finally emerge and all the benefits of civic nationalism realised. Nigeria cannot even dream to attain this as it does even want to acknowledge its own status and worse it is trapped in a geo political myopia with the U.K. and the US and has now set up a subservient relationship with China via the stupid loans it keeps collecting. There is no hope under the current configuration. The crisis of leadership is not the issue in Nigeria. The transatlantic slave trade and subsequent European domination is at the root of this nightmare; it stunted the growth of the nations that inhabit this land. This historical injury, broadly self inflicted cannot be overstated. We have to rediscover ourselves individually first. Back again to self determination. Until each section is allowed to express itself we will forever be wandering in the wilderness to use a biblical adage. I will stop now. I think I have made my central point. The world is moving rapidly away from neo liberalism and Obama’s disastrous reign was a final nail in the coffin. The world is at fork in the road to use a blues iconographic idiom. It has coincided with the dismantling of the unipolar hegemony and now we are moving swiftly into a bipolar world, most likely punctured by a violent interruption as the US recognising it’s failures will do it’s best to create chaos and is already well on that track now. But, Nigeria to be viable in the years to come it needs to go back to its foundation. Let the respective nations evolve naturally. Alliances will be made naturally and maybe in 100 or 200 hundred years in the future the concept of Nigeria might become a reality but that reality has to be an organic process not a forced one or artificial construct, which is what it is today. Alas, for Nigeria today, I am a realist. This will soon end up violently. Mark my words the whole faulty corrupt eco system will crash in approximately 10 years.
"We need to completely break away from these dogmas and build societies according to our own reflection." I couldn't agree more.
Engaging, informative and constructive conversation as usual.
I agree but I sense a ‘fear’ in The first segment driven by Professor Olorode, that fear of real change holds them back. Until this country is divided up into manageable chunks not one iota of change will happen. They adequately capture the nightmare and they are right but they keep suffering & smiling as Fela indicated. Nigeria is deliberately been dumbed down and now we know international bodies were supporting this regression; that was I think a key bombshell.
Interesting presentations and comments on the passions of TF for Nigerian unity and progress without adequate strategies to sustain his dreams for the country. Can Nigeria remain united and flourish without productive knowledgeable youths trained in an environment that values education and knowledge? Prof. Segun Ogungbemi.
Need the scripts of the interview. Thanks and it was a great interview with Kabiyesi. Admin

Until we start electing presidency based on merit and not sentiments or ethnicity, we will just be having incompetence in governance.
I had my notepad out for this one - such rich discussions!
So thankful to have been able to attend this interview virtually. May Dr Obadiah Mailafia's soul rest in peace and may his good works continue to speak for generations to come. Very sad to have received news of Dr Mailafia's passing this morning.
A very educative experience
This was very instructive - I am glad I was able to join.
