Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - A Beseechment Twofold Bass Cover
Просмотров 552 месяца назад
What's up yall! I'm still in "play a bunch of black metal before recording black metal" mode so here's another D.N.S. cover, "A Beseechment Twofold". This has one of the coolest riffs on the album in my opinion. I think it's in 35/4, subdivided into 6/4, 7/4, 6/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4. I have no idea if that's even technically correct, but it's a super weird yet natural feeling riff. I really enj...
Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - T.O.W.D.A.T.H.A.B.T.E. Bass Cover
Просмотров 922 месяца назад
Hey everyone! I'm practicing my tremolo picking today with some Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult. My band Nighthämmer is recording in a few weeks so it's time to get workin on that picking hand! I'm a huge fan of DNS, they always bring some very interesting riffs and I'm a particularly big fan of their use of odd time signatures. Listen for the really cool slower riff towards the middle of the so...
Mercyful Fate - Night of the Unborn Bass Cover

What's up yall! You know what the season is, it's getting pumped up for King Diamond tour season. So why not between work, band practices, shows and recording sessions punish myself (I like it) with learning another Mercyful Fate song? This ones been requested a few times because it's got such a killer bassline. Here is Mercyful Fate's "Night of the Unborn"! As always Timi kills it on this whol...
King Diamond - The 7th Day of July, 1777 Bass Cover
Просмотров 5563 месяца назад
What's up everyone! It's been a while since I've posted. Got too many bands going haha, just kidding never too many! In honor of King Diamond's upcoming tour I thought I'd hop in where I left off on Abigail. This one is "The 7th Day of July, 1777", what a ripper! By the way, I love the intro to this song, but this is a bass channel and there is no bass in the acoustic guitar intro! I love Timi'...
Voivod - The Unkown Knows Bass Cover
Просмотров 1805 месяцев назад
What' up! I covered "The Unknown Knows" by the mighty Voivod! The bass tone and performance on this album are incredible! I wanted to try something new and used my Marshall 9001 tube pre-amp which is meant for guitars. I plugged it into the effects loop of my Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2, then ran it DI into my interface. I was really happy with the tone and I think it's super cool how useful th...
Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - The Descent to The Last Circle Bass Cover

Sup everyone! Sorry for the re upload but I realized the last video's audio and video were kinda out of sync which SUCKS! But hey whatever, here's the fixed version. It's been a while, I joined another band ,learned their songs and played a couple shows. I'm also tracking bass for a new Cartilage EP, and writing for the next Nighthammer. So anyways it's been a busy month! But here I am, coverin...
King Diamond - The Family Ghost Bass Cover
Просмотров 5689 месяцев назад
What's up you sick rockers!? I'm back here with another King Diamond cover, just gonna keep them coming til I've finished Abigail! This one's "The Family Ghost". This song has a couple riffs that really exemplify Timi's melodic approach to riffs. I love how creative his lines are, especially the rad m3 trilly part at 0:50. It the perfect evil touch to match King's ghostly singing. Enjoy, hail T...
King Diamond - A Mansion in Darkness Bass Cover
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Hey everybody! I'm playing one of my favorite King Diamond songs, "A Mansion in Darkness". This song is so much fun to play! It's driving and riffy with some of my favorite guitar solos and lyrics from Abigail. As always, Timi's basslines are killer throughout the song, hopefully I do him some justice! Cheers everyone, thanks for watching! Gear used: Guild Pilot DR Hi Beam Strings Darkglass Mic...
Duran Duran - Rio Bass Cover
Просмотров 3089 месяцев назад
Hello, folks! I've had another busy month of touring and prepping to record for an exciting new black metal project, Roke. I just got a completely kickass Guild Pilot which seems to be an '83 design. I've never played one of these and wow, I'm blown away. Not only is it one of the nicest feeling basses I've owned, but it's unbelievably light. In fact, it's much lighter than any of my regular gu...
Dead Kennedys - Drug Me Bass Cover
Просмотров 71611 месяцев назад
What's up everybody! It's been a long month for me, writing new material for my band Cartilage as well as preparing to record for not one, not two, but three new black metal bands that will become less secretive soon. It's been hard to find time to make a video, but I've finally sat down and done it. Today I'm jamming Dead Kennedys weird short banger "Drug Me" off of the 1980 "Fresh Fruit for R...
King Diamond - Arrival Bass Cover

Happy Hallow's Eve, Ghouls and Weird Ones! I was trapped in the astral, but fortunately Gary was around to record a video. This one is Arrival by King Diamond! Gary covered this song, but when I recover from my time in the abyss I want to do the rest of Abigail as well. As always, lots of awesome riffs from Timi, RIP! Cheers! King Diamond - Behind These Walls Bass Cover
Просмотров 335Год назад
Hails, rockers! Today I'm playing surprise surprise, another King Diamond song. "Behind These Walls"! I've been wanting to do something off The Eye for a while, it's up there for me as far as favorite KD albums. Similar to my cover of "Sleepless Nights", I took inspiration from Pontus Egberg's playing in the live videos as well as the basslines on the studio version. This is a very straight-for...
King Diamond - The Portrait Bass Cover
Просмотров 389Год назад
Hello, everybody! This week I am covering King Diamond's "The Portrait" off the debut album, "Fatal Portrait". If you've watched my other videos you know I love Timi's bass playing, so I'm excited to cover some songs off this album. I love the classic bass tone and how it sits with the kick drum in the mix, especially during the double kick parts. I will be making a video in the future about di...
Slade - Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me Bass Cover
Просмотров 207Год назад
What's up everybody! I'm covering The Sladest of them all, Slade! Their hit single Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me. Slade rocks hard and is a ton of fun to play. I thought this song would be super easy to record, and it's really not hard to play but I didn't account for getting three minutes into the song and then playing a lick an octave too high or too low. Really, Jim Lea was just jamming out and if y...

Killed it, need more views bro, long live the King 🤟
Killer bassline 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
Fantastic!! love it
So good. I was always a drummer / guitar player but recently getting into bass more thanks to my long standing love for Maiden. But to see how much more involved these bass tracks were with KD? It's awesome. I always spent some much time on Micky's drums or Andy's riffage that I failed to really listen to the bass. It's no joke. Have to get my finger strength up to speed for sure.
I thought it was strummed...
Cool, one of my favourite tracks, well played 😊
Thank you dude!!
That was cool. Well played 😊
Hey thanks!!! Cheers!
There is no band like King Diamond King Diamond is more than just awesome
Agreed! Best metal band ever MF/KD
Wicked dude! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks dude!!! 🤘
Barney greenway from napalm death on bass, great cover
Thank you!!! 🤘
Perfect!!Totally KILL it!
Thank you!!
Brutal 👍
You rule man. Awesome groovy tone. Perfect. I respect eclectic musicians and it was a pleasure to see you playing , heavy, black metal and Duran Duran. Respect
Thank you so much for the comment, man! I'm glad to hear you enjoy the selection, I get bored playing one style so I like to switch it up. Cheers dudes thanks for watching 🤘
I was moving, so I watched it couple times and never commented. Awesome tribute as always. If I can drop yet another suggestion, Legend of The Beatles Headless Rider is a masterpiece would be it. I used to play it on the guitar, but that's simply impossible to retain in muscle memory for me.
Thanks for watching, good to see you here in the comments again! I appreciate you! Dude I would love to cover that song, I want to start covering some later Mercyful Fate soon. Lots of good gems in those albums. Cheers!
I LOVE YOU you are the one Amen😈😈😈
Love you too!! 🤘😈🤘
Sick bass guitar cover I played Hank Shermann's guitar parts including the tremolo bar parts on my Stratocaster copy guitar
Hell yeah dude! Hank tips, I'll check it out! 🤘
🤘🤘🤘
🤘🤘🤘
🤘🤘🤘
🤘🤘🤘
You're a master!!!
Thank you!!! 🤘🤘
Well-performed as always! I also don't really know what to say beyond that :]
Thanks, Neil! I'm almost through this album haha. I tried Princes of Hell but the tuning is pretty messed up
@@kienanplaysbass I also attempted that song a few months ago with the same problem. I think I could've gotten a decent take with the fretless but was left too annoyed by the pitchyness. That part in the middle where it's just 7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7 for what feels like a minute is super entertaining though :P Btw, my recording of Desecration of Souls is done & will be uploaded rather soon!
@neil_song I always thought everything was a little sharp, but I got a strobe tuner recently and now I can see exactly how sharp the bass is! It's like half way to the next note. And rad dude! Stoked to see it 🤘
🤘
Perfect performance there
Thanks for watching!! 🤘
Huh u guys think electric guitar can fool the audience Please give me a break And go get laid As long as u enjoyed her like a man And tell urself That was great😮
Since you also lean towards the Black/Death Metal it seems, I'd like to suggest Ignominious Eczema by this Norwegian band called Cadaver \m/
I havent heard them before I'll check them out! And yes heavy metal and black metal are my faves within the genre. I want to start throwing some more death metal in too!
You're a crack! Could you play Haunted cover song from King Diamond?
I'd love to! I'll add it to the list
One of my favorite bass lines from Mr Hansen RIP
Agreed, this whole album is just ripping basslines. No one has matched Timi imo
Flawless and Awesome!!!
Thank you dude! Appreciate you 🤘
This sounds so good! I wish the bass was slightly louder on the album. As someone who doesn't play any instrument, it's through videos like this one I can fully appreciate the instruments (especially bass).
That's awesome! Thank you so much. I agree, I could use more bass in many albums haha. It wasn't until I tabbed this one out that I even realized how much the bass is doing. Cheers!
Absolutely nailed that mate, technique, sound .... perfect !
Thank you so much dude!! Cheers
Flawless as always. Outstanding job.
Thank you!!! 🤘🤮🤘
Do you have tabs for this? Great cover btw and awesome tone!
Thank you man!! I did write out a tab for this, email me at kienanplaysbass@gmail.com and I'll type it out for ya 🤘
Cooool dude with amazing taste in music. Please don't stop showing your creativity! I saw a poster of Death on your wall in other videos. Maybe you could play some of their songs? Thank you in advance AND hello from Russia!🤘👊💥
Thank you so much man! Yes I'm a big Death fan I'd love to cover a song from them soon. I'm yet to do any death metalvon this page so it would be a good pick!
Perfect!
Thank you!! 🤘
"Did you know? 13 Days have come and gone Since we had the First of June" On King Diamond's birthday the spirits of the Unborn will play. Great bass cover, Timi "Grabber" Hansen ;)
Thank you, brother!! 🤘🤘
Jesus loves You and metal
Haha hell yeah, thanks dude! 🤘😈🤘
Here again as always and I've been thinking about a Charon cover, if possible.
Oh dude I totally will, that's one if my favorites off Fatal Portrait. Ittl definitely be one of the next KD songs I do 🤘🤘
What about Haunted
I love you. If you were a young woman, I would marry you😘. I asked you for "Nightmare" and you did it. Now you play more gems. Timi is delighted. Me too. Thank you.❤
Hahaha thanks man. I try to make Timi proud! I'll definitely keep doing tracks off this album, it's the best.
There it is! I had actually watched it and liked it. Watching again for sure \m/ 5:41 might as well be Denmark's National Anthem. What a beautiful passage they came up with, most likely Michael Denner's input there.
That would be the coolest national anthem of all time haha. Maybe one of these days
Nailing it again!
Thanks dude!!
Thanks for doing this one. FLAWLESS. I'm a guitar player and Nightmare has always been my all time favorite songs to play, especially that neoclassical masterpiece of an outro. That one is a great tune do be next, in case I missed it on your channel. Kudos to your passion and precision, man \m/
Hey! Thank you so much, I really appreciate the comment! Nightmare is an awesome song, one of my favorites on the album. And I have actually covered that one too, it's a bit farther back amongst the other videos! I love the guitar tone on that first riff, that open A power chord just hits so hard. Best album ever! 🤘
Lights out, lights out in London! Oh, wait... Well done, the bass is busy in this track. We talked about the higher bass presence on the first Mercyful Fate albums compared to the KD albums featuring Timi, it seems that it's not only the production but also the bass lines which are more dominant against the guitars. I hope to do Desecration of Souls soon, that should be fun :)
My friends and I have a theory that as the King Diamond albums progressed he pushed for less busy instrumentation. Those late 80s albums rip but its crazy how much is going on in the early ones comparably. I love some clank but I think the subby and mid heavy bass on this album sits so nice in the mix. Hell yeah dude cant wait to hear it! Cheers, Neil! 🤘
@@kienanplaysbass At least in the rhythm section this sounds plausible. Adding to that, my impression is that Timi needed Kim Ruzz to unlock his full potential. I must admit that I am not as fond of the Them-Conspiracy double compared to many other people, I was hooked way more by The Eye. Since I haven't really listened to a lot of Mercyful Fate / King Diamond post 1990, do you have a favourite from that later era? Oh BTW, I totally forgot to mention, your air guitar intro for this vid right here was sublime!!!
@neil_song Totally agree, Kim Ruzz and Timi were a unit. I think Mikkey Dee's performance and drum tone on Fatal Portrait really worked well too. The kick drum and the bass fit so nicely together in the mix on those old albums. I agree on The Eye too, excellent song writing throughout that album. I love Conspiracy too but the bass always sounded a little thin to me, it's real hard to transcribe off that album because the bass is so buried. As for later albums, Spiders Lullabye I enjoy. It didnt immediately hook me the way some of the others have but it really grew on me with time. It doesnt have the same bass performance as the earlier albums but is still a solid listen!
@@kienanplaysbass Thanks, I will give it a listen!
One of the greatest songs of all times. Great performance.
totally agree! Thank you for watching 🤘
Timi
RIP The best 🤘🤘
Great job honoring one great bass line. I don't recall seeing it on your channel, but Night of The Unborn would be the ultimate tribute... and quite the challenge. One of the best bass lines in the entire history of music.
Thank you! I haven't done Night of The Unborn yet but it's on my list for sure. Maybe it'll be in the next few videos I do ;) Cheers bud!
Great job! The extra beat in the verses to make it 5/4 is such a great idea. You really don't need to go all super-technical, but experimenting with time signatures is something I wish more bands did. Your cover is also nice because Timi's bass isn't as prominent as on the Mercyful Fate albums, unfortunately.
Thanks, Neil!! I totally agree, I love when bands experiment with odd time signatures, the riff in this song is so simple but effective and leaves lots of room for vocals. I actually recorded a few takes with a tone more accurate to the album but decided to go a bit more overdriven for that reason, it was getting lost in the mix. It's unfortunate because Timis basslines in Abigail are so great but even as someone with an ear for bass, a lot of them passed me by before I actually learned the songs. Cheers dude!
Oh my god, that was brilliant, 10/10
Thank you so much!!
