Dennis Wilson - Just For You [extended edit]
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.2 года назад
In honor of the compilers of 2022's Sail On Sailor - 1972 having the nerve to not include this gorgeous track on yet another set. Leaving the shady cut-in-half bandcamp travesty as its only legacy, I present to you my extended edit of "Just For You". The song that never was (or maybe was, but we will surely never know). With some Herculean copying and pasting, I've simply tried to create a full...
The Beach Boys - Sail Plane Song [alternate version]

Behold, a pale hillside. Chapter one. So, I finally figured out how to achieve 'reverse reverb'. Here I use the Endless Harmony Soundtrack version of "Sail Plane Song" to ensure a clean canvass for the resulting sonic onslaught. If people made a fuss about Mark's 2012 mix, even his humbler 2018 mix, I will surely be crucified for the 2022 mix. I would recommend use of headphones for the intende...
The Beach Boys - Slip On Through [alternate 1969 mix/early version]
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.2 года назад
I've taken parts from the early version backing track and worked them into the slower-tempo, and arguably funkier alternate '69 mix from Feel Flows, in a modest attempt to make the funkiest fanmix possible. I really like how the bridge turned out. Enjoy. Flac file: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XC6qIHE0krJhEbtniEuTjgSlXMmx5JBR?usp=share_link
The Beach Boys - The Gong/All I Want To Do [early version]
Просмотров 7612 года назад
Something I put together a little while back, I took some different sections from The Gong and dubbed them on top of each other and whittled it down to something listenable. It's pretty (if not 100%) unlikely that this was Denny's intention for the track, but it sure sounds funky, and funky is what Denny did best. I tacked on the [early version] of All I Want To Do, which is just *chef's kiss* ...
The Beach Boys - Wild Honey/Country Air [extended edition]
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 года назад
"Brian was doing this track with a Theremin and we were doing the song. I went into the kitchen and we were in this health food thing and wild honey was all natural. So there's this can of wild honey and we're making some tea. So I said, I'll write the lyrics about this girl who was a wild little honey. And I wrote it from the perspective that that album was Brian's R&B-influenced album, in his...
The Beach Boys - Here Comes the Night/Tune L
Просмотров 6312 года назад
To be fair I didn't do too much here, but I liked the way the transition between the two songs came together. Tune L adds a nice little acid-tinged jam to this 1967 LP, following the loose and lovely R&B of Here Comes The Night. I thought of giving it a fade out, but it's just too groovy to cut down. RE: the artwork, once again, if anyone is aware of who made this wonderful artwork let me know ...
The Beach Boys - I Was Made To Love Her/I'd Love Just Once To See You [extended edition]
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 года назад
"It feels weird to call this a great record it's so slight. But it's perfect and full of pleasure; it does what it sets out to do almost without a bad second. And what does it set out to do? To convey the troubled innocence of the Beach Boys through a time of attractive but perilous psychedelic sturm und drang. Its method is whimsy, candor, and carefully modulated amateurishness, all of which c...
The Beach Boys - Can't Wait Too Long [1967 version]
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.2 года назад
I've learned a lot about Can't Wait Too Long over the past few days, and one thing I have determined for sure, is there is not a whole lot to work with when it comes to 1967 sessions for this track. It really became a different beast in '68, in the best way, with all of the new elements. But in the spirit of my little, impromptu Wild Honey series, I decided to tackle a purely 1967 CWTL. I will ...
The Beach Boys - Time To Get Alone/Let The Wind Blow [extended edition]
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.2 года назад
Wild Honey is the 13th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released December 18, 1967 on Capitol Records. It was the group's first foray into soul music and was heavily influenced by the R&B of artists such as Stevie Wonder. The album was the band's best-selling at that point, charting at number 3 in the US. Lead single "Cool, Cool Water" peaked at number 5, while its follow-up "...

The Beach Boys - Don't Go Near The Water [Mike + Al verses]

If you haven't caught it yet, I'm a "best of both worlds" kind of guy. I may or may not be in a minority here, but I think the joke verse from the alternate version is fuckin' hilarious. So here we have a hybrid mix of the official version and the alternate version. I had to use a little studio wizardry to make it work, as the two mixes are pretty different sounding, especially when they are li...

The original is better.
Can you reupload part 1?
This Album saved my life, Thank You Michael
please update the google drive my goat
That first song is a masterpiece ! Could be reccorded on pet sound ❤
This would have been a sure fire sunshine pop hit
Another gem!
This is very well thought out, never thought some of these pieces would work together like they do. Good sound too.
this video is the only place I can find the Black Widow demo online. I think it's one of his best post '77 tunes.
This song has always been a bit of an enigma to me. I first heard it, albeit in a much more rudimentary form on the ‘85 ‘second edition’ bootleg of SMiLE, and sonically, it fit with the other material from those sessions, but then much later on, around the turn of the millennium or thereabouts, I started hearing all these other, more complete versions, and I also started hearing conflicting stories about exactly when and where these sessions took place. There seems to be no official account for the history of this song, from what I can tell. Just occasional references. Perhaps I’ve long been overlooking something? I have no idea. All I know is this is probably the most mysterious Beach Boys song I know of (not to mention a wonderful tune).
The piano chord changes in 'Airplane' are a great example of why Brian is a genius.
whew.....it's time for Brian to meditate
lol. you people are insane for proposing this as a "mix" of Heroes an Villains, but interesting little project nonetheless.
I always felt like the Bicycle Rider melody was meant for more. It's such an incredible melody and has a Sgt Pepper quality about it. There's something there that feels unfinished.
Airplane really is a beautiful song.
Can you PLEASE upload JUST the “Burning Wood Session”? Thanks! Track 25 on CD 4, it’s 45 seconds long. Thanks!
1:47
I wish the whole song was just that part
Nice.
For me, this starts out in Brian-genius mode, but then devolves...
I'm Tripping....😊😊
Could add wouldn’t it be nice to live again after ecology
imagine bicycle rider into home on the range like it was originallly meant
the edit @ 3:02 is offbeat; when listening from 2:51 it’s easy to hear clearly I don’t like that but otherwise good job
Brian looked and sounded like The Dude, he might even be the original Dude
Brilliant 💯
Definitely different. Love it 😊
Sounds exactly like Indian Lake by The Cowsills, but the BBoys wrote it first. Very similar fathers those two bands
I love Brian Wilson ❤
first fan mix of this song that actually blew my mind and might be my fav. would be amazing to hear your take on the album.
I noticed the drive link is broken, any chance it could be updated?? This music is great
it does kind of show that what weve eventually got as smile via the brian wilson solo project and smile sessions, is not really the smile that would have originally been released. it probably would have been much shorter, much more fragmented. the bootleggers constructed an entirely different album from brian's original recordings, which subsequently became the final version. but this is a fascinating edit, where do the alternative heroes and villians vocals come from at 1:30 ?
Sad,sad news that Brian's wife and saviour has passed away suddenly aged 77. He will feel absolutely lost.
5:54
I've been hunting for this particular version, thanks for posting.
The Motown reference makes total sense to me . This deepens my respect for what not only Brian was doing, but how the home 8 track recording was expanding their willingness to adventure. In that respect way ahead of their time.
Would you ever be tempted to give us a Beach Boys' airplane megamix, including this, Santa's airplane and Brian's Love You Airplane?
Love Love Love This
Hearing the longer pieces of this on the recent boxset gave me a flash of what Mount Vernon and Fairway might have been: it makes sense as an album-length thing, with narration interspersed with full tracks of what the child heard on the transistor radio. I wonder if anyone's edited it together with some of the standards from 15 Big Ones to make a full hour of experience.
Lots of people with no place to go I know a place where you can go You've got the ticket, come on slip inside And let my song take you for a ride Come on, won't you let me be By your side for now and eternity 'Cause I love you, baby, I do And now can't you see what has come over me Oh, my life is growing like a big oak tree 'Cause I love you, baby, I do And now can't you see Why don't you come and let me kiss and make it better I'm not the one who come and left it later Now you relax and let your mind go free You won't regret the feeling you receive Come on, won't you let me be By your side from now and eternity 'Cause I love you, baby, I do And now can't you see what has come over me Oh, my life is growing like a big oak tree 'Cause I love you, baby, I do And now can't you see My love is growing Your heart is knowing Our love is growing Mama, oh, can't you see What has come over me For my life
Thanks for sharing this! Do you have more rare BB tracks you could share?
never heard the verse at 1:24 before. nice mix! I love how people can play musical Lego with this album (and especially this song) and offer up an array of different interpretations of what it would have been (of which Smiley Smile was the first). Decades later with the sessions released, the album transcends the form it was intended for and becomes an immortal, organic, exploratory piece of pop culture mythos in a way that few other pieces of media could ever hope to. It is because of its unfinished form that it becomes something much more interesting. As someone who wasn't around in the 1960s (and only discovered this album about a year ago) I'm glad I didn't experience the hype and ensuing disappointment that this era must have been. I much prefer experiencing it as it is today, which lends itself so well to repeated listening and fan creativity.
That's from the (vastly superior, imo) Brian lead vocal version 2.
there is something really delicious and endearing about Brians's singing on Lets Put our Hearts Together, above and beyond the released recording
Man this is a 10000 pounds of ear candy!
Fantastic!. 👍
Can't believe you cut out the You're Under Arrest! You were so close to making it peeeerfect!
There it is, this absolutely has to be one of the original finished ideas from 1966/67. This sounds too good and fits too well to be a coincidence. Backing down to a quiet a cappela ending for H&V and slamming into Roll Plymouth Rock at full throttle fits Brian's mixing tendencies for the time (let alone the fact that the vocal tracks are a literal segue between the two). This also makes sense because no one was ever able to figure out a good ending for H&V without having to write something new, including Brian himself. This true ending has always been around, it's just been misplaced as the second to last segment for all of this time. TBH, all of the stories about H&V being quite different before Smiley Smile matches what I'm hearing here. The acetate from VDP that had "I'm in Great Shape" into the "...'it's three-score to five, and I've still got the jive" segment is possibly another clue as to what Brian had originally planned. Bonus points for the first beach boys freak to sync up the melody line that Brian sings during the sessions for Roll Plymouth Rock. All we are missing now are the vocals to Song for Children and the backing track for the second part of Surf's up...
Marvellous as well as beyonder competition. ThankYou.
30 minutes when ;)
Been way too long without my wind-chimes.
