The Undertones

The Undertones formed in Derry, 1976, the result of five friends (John O’Neill, Damian O’Neill, Feargal Sharkey, Billy Doherty & Michael Bradley) learning how to play basic rock and roll. Rehearsing in Damian’s bedroom eventually led to the band recording John O’Neill’s ‘Teenage Kicks’ in 1978, a record that became a favourite of John Peel. Over the next four years they released more pop gems like `Get Over You’, ‘Here Comes The Summer’, ‘Jimmy Jimmy’, ‘You’ve Got My Number (Why Don’t You Use It!)’, ‘Wednesday Week’, ‘My Perfect Cousin’ & ‘It’s Going To Happen!’. They also recorded four highly acclaimed LPs with Feargal, toured the USA with The Clash and headlined several tours in those five years. In fact, they almost enjoyed the life of professional musicians. In 1983 Feargal left the band to pursue a solo career and the remaining members decided to call it a day. In 1999 the band reconvened, with fellow Derryman Paul McLoone replacing Feargal Sharkey. They continue to perform today.

Loved the Undertones as an Aussie they had that raw Pub Band Sound with a splash of Punk/Pop...My perfect Cousin is my Life Soundtrack it's a Banger, 57 yo and still have a bit of that Teenage angst. God I miss the 70s and 80s

Wow, I'm definitely old as Kevin sounds like someone to admire. He's got a degree in economics and bionics and this guy is still bitter about losing to him at Subbuteo when they were ten years old.
True, but that guy singing (Feargal Sharkey) went on to sell a few million albums 5 years later off one pop song (A Good Heart) and never had to work again. Kevin and Feargal both won at life.
@@buckodonnghaile4309 - Hopefully that helped him to deal with his feelings of inadequacy in comparison to his more intelligent cousin and perhaps he spent some of that money on Subbuteo lessons and asked for a rematch. Although, it can't have helped that his biggest hit (A Good Heart) was written by a 19-year-old girl.
