romanticizing life in a small(ish) city | wfh, what i do as an SDR, everyday makeup, coffee shop
hi and welcome to my first 9-5 vlog! the company i work for is fully remote and i love the flexibility it allows me, but there have been days where i didn’t leave my apartment until the work day ended.
i’ve learned that changing up my environment and adding variety to my routine is crucial for my mental health, so i make it a priority to switch things up throughout the week.
i loosely followed this recipe for the shakshuka, but just followed my heart with the spices: downshiftology.com/recipes/shakshuka/#wprm-recipe-container-34363
hope you enjoy!

i absolutely love watching people vlog about their lives in beautiful metropolitan cities like nyc and london. i dream about one day living in one of them, but right now, this isn't my reality (and i'm actually not sure if it will ever *become* my reality) and so recently i've been romanticizing living in the city that i do live in sacramento, ca. i hope you enjoy taking a peek at what my small...

my simplified skincare routine | combination + dry skin, drugstore products, morning and nighttime

the other day, my friend complimented me on how great my skin looked and asked what my skincare routine is. my routine is pretty basic and most of the products can be found at the drugstore, so i thought i'd show you guys the simple products i use to help maintain the health of my skin!
The shakshuka looks excellent.
@@drewimmesoete2855 it was delicious and so easy to make!
You are stunning in those glasses!
@@fion_c thank you!! they’re gonna become my whole personality 🤪
what a lovely day!
It was! ☺️
I live in san francisco and am Chinese and have never eaten in those places. Youre making me want to go try (I usually go to clement street where all the other chinese stuff is). Definitely go to golden gate park on sundays and go to the clement street farmers market near by its a great combo
This is the highest compliment! That sounds like a perfect Sunday! I'm gonna have to get back out there before it gets too chilly. Thank you for the suggestion! 😊
can you recommend a good skincare product for pores?
Oof, I wish I could, I'm not super knowledgeable about skincare. I love Dr. Dray on here. She's a certified dermatologist and always gives affordable recommendations! www.youtube.com/@DrDrayzday
@@tina_is_trying awww thankyou so much!!

Love this!! We hope to move up closer to the Sacramento area next year. We have been near LA for 4 years and ready for a change. And you are right, that farmers market is AWESOME!! 🙂
@@kathywinkleman Exciting!! I think it would be a great place to settle down! I’ve been here for most of my life, though, so I think I’m past due for a change. Stay tuned! Hahah
Sourdough with mozzarella, basil pesto and thinly sliced tomato is so so good !! Btw love the vlog💛
Oooh! Yesssss, I love pesto. Thank you, thank you! ☺️
I have always loved peanut butter toast. I am not ashamed to say, and I still eat it today. For my recommendation, I recommend that you try a peanut butter toast but with a toasted ciabatta or focaccia bread.
Oooh! Yes, I love peanut butter AND ciabatta AND focaccia. That would be some *elevated* peanut butter toast. Thank you!
drop your easy, savory toast recommendations (that don't include eggs or avocado 😅) below.
cream cheese, sprouts, chia seeds and cucumber, duh!
@@fion_c ooooh yessss, i used to not like sprouts, but i've come around to them. thank you!

LOVE Square Pie Guys!
Oh man, it was SO good!
I’m going to SF next weekend and I took notes!! Your sisters weekend looks so fun. Loved the editing and style of this vlog. Felt like I was there with you 😊
Square Pie Guys for sure!
This is making me hungry! 😋
I’m still thinking about that pizza 🍕
Love the camera quality, what camera do you use
I splurged and got the DJI Pocket 3 🙈
I love how people are using the term ‘normal consumption’ instead of ‘under consumption’ when they are just like the rest of us!!
I love how you call this normal consumption, so many people think they're saving the world by being "underconsumption core" but then it's just normal consumption 😭
i’m just trying to help normalize normal. i’ve always admired people who live minimally, but that lifestyle can be just as hard to obtain as a “luxurious” lifestyle. i’m sure my apartment looks like the vast majority of apartments out there. we’re just not seeing them because they’re not ✨aesthetic✨. it’s ok to be normal 😅
lets goooo!!! love buying minimal because u really get more use out of it really
YES! quality over quantity!
That’s awesome
You go girlie
@@OzymandiusStudios thank you! just trying to do my best!
Thank you! I’m so tired of seeing people promoting over or underconsumption. Like, just do what’s best for you and your finances who cares😂
@@RileyThompson-ij5pn thank YOU for joining the conversation 😄 i was listening to a podcast the other day on the topic of consumption and the person brought up “affordability,” as in the affordability of some fast fashion brands and posed the question, “who is it affordable for?” is it affordable for the person making the clothes? what about the people whose water source is being contaminated from the clothing factory? i’ll stop there, though, this comment section is not the place to spiral on this topic 😅😵💫
@@tina_is_trying I will never shame people who buy fast fashion or use not so great applications, though. Because not all families have the opportunity to spend £80 per tshirt- some are in poverty and just simply cannot afford even supermarket clothes; which are also fast fashion and cause as much damage. In fact.. every clothing shop on the high street is, sadly, high fashion and not a single one of them causes so much damage from environmental to workers right and child labour. Even worse, the “fancier” places are still high fashion, still pay bad and cause incredible waste and pollution, they just brand their clothing as more expensive because it’s a “high end” shop. But then I look at my friend, who has a little one under the age of 2. Baby clothing is so expensive, as expensive as adult clothing for less material.. she cannot afford to pay £15-20 per single piece of clothing that her child will only wear for 2 months because he’s actively growing. I cannot shame her for buying cheap clothing, when at the end of the day she just does not the financial possibility to pay for clothing that is environmentally good. Even baby clothing, if we think fair wage, least waste and most respectful becomes supremely expensive, and becomes a luxury people simply cannot afford. We shouldn’t life this way. I don’t endorse high fashion, but I will never shame people using it, because I know majority use it as they have no other choice, we made sustainable fashion that lasts a long time too difficult to reach for many people. I take podcasters with a pinch of salt; they make money out of making the podcasts. Often they can be hippocrates too. It’s far easier to afford things when you make more decent-ish money. But at what cost. Running two jobs? Three? It can be unattainable for some, even thinking of making your own clothing and how long THAT takes, most of us just.. Do not have time, when we work 40-60 hours a week just to make ends meet. Then you bring the issue of bullying in countries like America where schools let kids wear normal clothes; and the bullying children get when they don’t fit in because their mama and papa cannot afford the clothing other parents can. In reality it’s such a difficult, and heartbreaking topic. Because we do not make enough money and everything is so expensive, we cannot support sustainable fashion. Because we can’t support sustainable fashion, we buy fast fashion as it’s all we can afford. Because of this, fast fashion causes harm. And because of this, sustainable clothing becomes even *more* expensive and harder to get. And then we have a whole cycle we’re stuck in. And trust me, I’m an artist- I WANT people to get paid fair for the clothing- and in general the creations they make. People should be paid fair wage for a blanket. But when a blanket ends up £300 because it IS fair wage, and we live in a world where everything is so painfully expensive, how can I look down on a person who ends up buying a £8 blanket? Especially when trying to keep themselves warm? To clothe themselves, and their children? It hurts me to see everyone suffer, because that’s what it is currently. I want the world to treat these things better. But right now, especially even more so because cost of living crisis, no one can afford this. So I will never shame or look down on people who buy from Ali, or the big T, or the horrible S that steals designs. I won’t shame people for buying in Primark, or those who buy supermarket clothes. We’re all just trying to do our best, when we don’t have the money to thrive let alone survive. Sorry about my mini rant, I’ve seen those podcasts and they often heavily shame people who buy from those companies etc. and people don’t deserve shame. These days the internet is so toxic and judgemental because it’s behind the screen, they don’t see the reality of it, they don’t see inside the houses of NORMAL, typical people. And it’s heartbreaking. 💔
@@RowanWolf22 thank you so much for bringing this up. no apology needed! i also am not shaming people who are buying fast fashion out of necessity. the podcast i was referring to wasn't either, rather they were criticizing fast-fashion companies and the influencers showing off their hordes of things they don't need. i'm talking about unnecessary purchases. we are buying 5 times as much clothing as we were in the 90s. i'm not perfect, i've been guilty of buying clothing from fast fashion brands (most of the stores we shop at in the US, even the more expensive ones, are fast fashion), but i've been focusing on buying less altogether.
I'm going to be blunt here: even poor people tend to have too many clothes. Also, at least some could get them second hand, hand me downs, ask for a new piece when someone wants to give them a present, etc. You know, some decades ago there was no fast fashion at all and people still managed to get dressed. If the poor only bought what they needed, or not much more, there wouldn't be very many fast fashion stores, just a few, so that this type business wouldn't affect the planet as much as it is doing so nowadays.
Thanks for making a pretty normal chill video, rather than those “underconsumption” videos that are honestly cringy. It would be lovely to normalise.. well.. NORMAL life. How it ACTUALLY looks in people’s households, average daily life house holds.
@@RowanWolf22 my thoughts exactly! some of the things i see in the “underconsumption” videos are also unattainable. i try to my remind myself that perfect doesn’t exist, but it can be hard to truly take that in when we see so many beautiful homes! mindful consumption is a long game. 😌✨
might have to rebrand this as “very mindful (very demure) consumption core” 😂 because that’s exactly what i’m trying to be-a mindful consumer. lately, i’ve been asking myself, “do i really need this?” and not just buying something because it’s cute and i can afford it. my wallet, my apartment, and (i think) the environment have been thanking me!
Striving to live like this because everything in my house has some kind of origin story
@@tbs3518 Yes! I’m working on being more mindful of my purchases and not buying things just to buy them.

@@fion_c right?? i definitely need to set an alarm to remember to put it on, though! 😂
Yesss glass jars are elite. Regular glasses break way easier, get scratched, are picky about the dishwashing detergent and are easier to knock over and you gotta go out of your way to buy them. Plus glass jars are just way cuter
@@SpaceDoug404 yes yes yes!
I'm so glad you made this vid, this isnt ( underconsumption core) its littirally just peoples regular lives or (normal consumption)

Glass jars as cups go unbelievably hard
great, now you are all ready to have a garage sale with a free pile. But hold onto the butter dish, that's a made in Poland expensive one!!!
I’ll be holding on to all of it for the foreseeable future!
DO NOT THRIFT MUGS. You do not know how old they are, you could POISON yourself with lead paint and toxic chemicals.
Interesting, haven’t heard of this before. I’ll have to look into it!
Theres a lot of companies that are very upset with you rn lmao
I love this. I'm so annoyed with the normalization of hyperconsumerism in every corner of social media. I'd prefer a liveable earth than an aesthetic kitchen any day ❤
@@UnBesoDeCristal I’m just trying to do my part ❤️
Love it! Great job dear! Nice cute butter dish! Your mom had great taste!
This is literally just my house. Virtually the whole house.
Adorable butter dish!
Thank you! ☺️
Definitely feel you in the un-aesthetic kitchen! I have a bunch of stuff that belonged to my late parents so I havent curated my kitchen stuff much at all, with the exception of my Joie measuring spoons and a set of rainbow bowls 😂
The butter dish is so cute
I love my mismatched mugs. I did a splurge and spent 60p on a saucer and cup (not matching) from a tearoom I went to with a friend. They are perfect for my late night fancy tea sessions
I don't know why, but I only drink tea out of the blue mugs!
If it can last 20+ years, why wouldn't you just keep using it instead of buying new?
YES! I’ve been trying to be more conscious of my consumption habits. I don’t love the color of the turquoise blue dish set, but they’re not broken, so I’m not buying new ones. It also helps that the sets I would get are way too expensive for my budget 😂😅
i was Going to say that i still intend to get some decent glasses just for juice and the like. then i remembered my favourite glass is, in fact, a chocolate spread jar. just a glass-shaped one 😭
Ok, but why do we love specific dishes?? Hahah I forgot to show it in this video, but my favorite bowl to eat out of is a big white one that a roommate left behind 😆
Wtf is consumption core, just.... having jormal shit that you got bornally like most young people?
I love this! Overconsumption is buying more than necessary, and ending up with a crap ton of stuff you don't need or use. Underconsumption is buying less than what's necessary and sometimes just making things more inconvenient for the sake of being cheap. But normal consumption is buying what you want and need without going overboard! Buying what's necessary, but sometimes you just want something new and shiny, and that's okay! I saw this one woman who lives the "underconsumption" lifestyle, and it honestly just made me kinda sad. If you don't have a lot of money to spend and have to do things a certain way, then that's fine! But when you're financially stable, and you're just making your own lives and your kids' lives more inconvenient. Then it's just sad
I‘ve been working on finding balance ⚖️😌
Wait.. what are you doing in my Kitchen?!😂
🤭 do you also reuse ziplock bags and the produce rubber bands??? Haha
@@tina_is_trying i grew up with my mom who doesnt ever throw things that can be repurposed, and my grandma is about 95 and her basement is filled with small jars, plastic containers, endless amount of rubber bands, Even though she doesnt Even cook anymore.. so if i know there is something in my fridge that i know i wont end up eating (and i dont give away) i feel like it has to stay in the fridge unthil its bad so i then can actually throw it out with good conscience😆 But yeah i have at least 2 drawers with an assortment of plastic bags..
