Follow me on my journey after moving to China: Surviving or Thriving?
A weekend in Changsha | CHINA travels #3
Hello one and all, I hope you're having a wonderful November! A the start of the month I enjoyed a weekend away in Changsha (the closest tier-2 city to me) with friends. Indian food was eaten, trampolines were bounced on, and Mao Zedong's very impressive (and youthful) statue was witnessed to complete something traditionally touristy. I can't wait to keep exploring more of China and it's cities in the future (and take you along for the ride)!

Hi there everyone, it's been a little while! Hope you're doing well and still interested in checking out some of what Yueyang (China) has to offer. Just a little vlog of some 'Ps' from the last few weeks for you today, hope you enjoy!
Sanqing Mountain (Sanqingshan) | CHINA travels #2

Hey everyone, a longer video today which I tried to cut down a bit, but Sanqingshan was just so stunning I figured I might as well call this vlog an immersive experience hiking Sanqingshan (三清山). It was definitely busy but considering it was national - golden - week I would say it was quieter than I thought it would be and for that (and the weather) I am so grateful. See you next week (at some ...
Wuyuan area, Jiangxi | CHINA travels #1

Hi everyone, long time no see! Sorry this video is a day late yet again, let's just say I was making the most of my week off after getting back from my trip... by doing absolutely nothing (including not editing this video). Here's a little vlog from the first half of my trip where I explored some 'scenic' areas near Wuyuan, Shangrao, Jiangxi. Even if it was golden week and busy, I had an amazin...
Exploring CHINA | Yueyang Diaries #1

Hey everyone, sorry the video is a couple of days late but I figured since I won't be posting next week (now you know) posting late means less time apart! I finally made friends and was a tourist at Yueyang's most famous tourist attraction - I hope you enjoy the vibes and I'll see you next time!

Welcome back one and all! It's finally happening - my first apartment tour!!! Apologies in advance for how long this video is but I tend to ramble and I wanted to do my little one-bedroom studio justice... I honestly think under 20 minutes is a win. Let me know in the comments if anyone has any questions or wants a follow-up video on apartment hunting prices here in Yueyang and I'll see you aga...

They really do - very yummy, very cheap 🙌
Nice 👍 you earned a subscriber Please i have some questions about studying in china, I want to come to china to study ( masters program) Please can I chat you up on instagram? I would be glad if you could respond to this, thank you 🙏
As vegetarian, check the ingredients of your snacks because most snacks contain animal fat or gelatin.
Thank you for the reminder! I'm actually not that strict a vegetarian - I try to eat less meat in my diet for various reasons but I personally am not that strict where I would need to start looking at ingredients in everything/limit where and what I can eat when I'm not at home :)
@@HelsBelsAbroadso your not vegetarian… you cant change the lifestyle you didn’t create. Your just mimicking and you respect that
i like the music very much.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the music!
helen snacks!
Can't live without them 😅😆
Pilates studio is BONKERZ. Gonna need more cheez its to fuel it.
You and your bloody blackcurrant jam 😂 but the pretzel bucket - need an update on how many remain now…
Can confirm I am around ¾ finished........ and yes, the best kind of jam obviously
Panda having tire rage sent me
Iconic me thinks
Avatar mountain?
Not THE Avatar mountains (they're in Zhangjiajie National Park), but Sanqingshan is still a stunning mountain to visit (and possibly a bit quieter because it's less famous).
china looks promising, my next dest but i think i'll give up on it
I'm sorry, I'm having trouble understanding - is it your next destination or are you not planning to visit? Not that I've seen much of this massive country but I think it has so much to offer so I would definitely recommend if you get the chance to come over!
AMAZING!!! Just look like heaven!!!
It really was so beautiful!
Adventure is out there!!!!
hehe <3
Solo Travel slayyy
This look like a scene outta the movie UP
hehe, I also sort of found a snipe?
Hi there, I understand how much the stress is for someone to move into a new environment, helpless and facing the future alone. Um, despite of all the challenges, you have the effort and have proved yourself strong enough to start from the scratch. Take for example, another vlogger, Vegan in China had been living in China for 5 years, you can get accustom to this new place as she does. Living in China is different from sightseeing, it is good to learn from the experiences of a "forerunner."
Hello, thank you for your thoughts! I agree it can be tough but I've been super lucky and think my move has gone very smoothly! I'm really enjoying my time here in China (both living and working, as well as travelling and exploring) and I hope you continue to join me on my journey!
Very relax!
Relax indeed.
Why china though I mean you did say china was affordable but I think you would have gotten a pretty solid job in London too
Hi there sorry for the late reply I completely missed your comment! China for a few reasons: the main goal for me was to work on my mandarin (technically my mother tongue), and because I wanted to move back to Asia after spending some time living here when I was younger. The jobs offered in China just worked out for me at this stage towards reaching those goals and being the most afforable option for me personally. Hope that answers your question! :)
Sunset is hellla beautiful. Next time u should take a temple home.
enjoy travel!
Thank youuuuu!!!
🙌👏
😊😊
Mine was a 3 bed 300$ apartment... Living in Canada has not been fun😭
I was looking at 2-3 bed places as well before deciding I didn't need that much space from the go/I'd rather view in person and it is definitely crazy what you can get for your money over here! Super grateful to be able to live like this and hope Canada living is still amazing anyway - I think it's one of the most beautiful countries in the world!
@@HelsBelsAbroad totally. I'd definitely do things a bit differently. Maybe see how studio living feels like. Canada can be quite nice, long as you're on good terms... You can quickly find yourself in a tricky place cuz of a policy change or just when the rules are just being rules. But overall, being in China during your teenage years and banking on cheap expenses is something I'll never forget
Looks really nice!
Thank you so much!
Grateful I got to play a real game of wheres harris on your photo wall 😂 Love your window seating/breakfast area
Hehe glad you found yourself - that is a very important wall of people ya know! Also if anyone sees this, go check out WheresHarris's channel (amazing and hilarious travel content, seriously people, don't miss out)!!!
Fancy gallllll
hehe thank yaaa x

Apartment tour very much pending - hopefully out tomorrow!!! <3
Excellent! Hope you get to visit Hong Kong soon!
Thank you and I definitely will at some point!!
This is awesome!!! So excited for you Helen :)
Thank you so much!!
Good luck in China! You seem to have a very diverse background with 50% Asian, you lived in UK but your accent is North American and not English.
Thank you and yes, that's right, good job noticing! I was lucky enough to move around quite a bit with my family when I was younger - maybe I'll go into that a bit more in a future video?!
what are you teaching in China ?
I'm currently just teaching English as a foreign language (I did a TEFL course prior to moving here like so many other people do), but I have a BSc and MSc in other subjects so who knows what my future in teaching holds!
@@HelsBelsAbroad nice to hear that .
You will meet lots of Chinese or foreign friends in China, even bf, don't worry 😊
Thank you for those kind words, I'm already making friends but I'm always looking to make more :)
Proud to be 55th..welcome
Thank you so much!
new subscriber from HONGKONG🎉
Amazing thank you! I can't wait to visit Hong Kong one day soon!
Gorgeous city! And it’s only tier 3 lol.
Yeah, it's crazy how large a tier-3 city is here?? I can only imagine what the other tiers will be like if it's already this great here in the middle.
@@HelsBelsAbroad have fun! Wish I could teach there. My wife and I have talked about it. But at 49 (retired), with 2 teens almost both in college, we can only possibly do 1/2 year stints. And I know they want 1 year contracts.
@@RetireearlyNYC I think there might be some shorter/negotiable contracts out there (possibly part-time positions are universities or something) but these would definitely be trickier to find. Have you thought about possibly getting set up tutoring online and maybe moving around for stints while you do that instead? This would be more easygoing working hours-wise as well if you're retired already and looking for more of a part-time gig. Not that I have any experience with these options though... just some thoughts from doing my own research before I moved here.
@@HelsBelsAbroad thanks! That may be something to look at. PT would def be my thing. :)
So many foreign teachers in China! Great job showing us the real China. Thank you. Enjoy your time there :)
My mandarin isn't nearly fluent enough to work in a different sector that's still part of the local community so it made sense 😆 Hope you follow along for more but if not thanks for being here and supporting this video!
@@HelsBelsAbroad I’ve heard great things about being a teacher there. Lots of free time to travel and explore. :)
@@HelsBelsAbroad Just subbed. So I will be able to follow your journey and adventures in China. (I was born there. Came to US at 9. Now 49. Never been back, but missing it terribly. Will finally look into visiting now that my kids are nearly off to college and I’m retired and can go there for long trips )
@@RetireearlyNYC That sounds like a great idea! I'm sure so much has changed since you were last here and you'll have an amazing time if you can visit and travel around a bit with the extra time off!
i like your other video "moving to china" welcome to YB fam
Thank you so much for the support!
🥹🥰🥰🥰
🥺🙏
Great sharing.
Thank you for watching!
Wise move and China is a great destination. Super reconnections in very exciting times ahead 👍❤️
Thank you so much for the support!
Are you chinese american ?
I'm actually Taiwanese English - same same but different :D
Hope you enjoy your new life in China.
Thank you so much! I'm definitely enjoying it so far :)
❤️❤️❤️

chances are - another youtube blogger hired to smear China
Hi there, I would love to be able to say I was paid to move to China in any capacity rather than me seeking out normal employment but I'm actually just a normal mixed-ethnicity person that wanted to move somewhere I could practice my (technically) mother-tongue. As someone with a Taiwanese mother I wanted to go somewhere I could improve my mandarin. I have also lived in Beijing before (which I loved) so I have nothing bad to say about China, aside from maybe that the firewall makes accessing youtube a little more difficult :D I hope you'll stay to keep watching my videos exploring this country further as well as living away from home for the first time (I made the channel to document my life in a way that friends and family can follow along), but if not that's ok too as we're not personally close, so I wouldn't expect you to follow my journey either. Thanks for your time if you read my reply, Helen
@@HelsBelsAbroad helen , in view of those countless attacks from youtuber on China - nobody can denies the fact that RUclips has been a tool to demonize rivals
😀😃😃
☺☺☺
loved this! So happy you went to the Pilates studio, it’s closer to your apartment than some may think 😂 (thank you for letting us watch the window replacement, it was very entertaining) ❤ Glad you got everything sorted too! So excited for an apartment tour xx I am intrigued about the parts of the medical exam you were unsure about…
Let's just say for one test I was less clothed than I thought I would be...
Have you made any friends over the age of 65? If not, please do, and would like an intro to them soon. :)
I'll keep you updated!
