Small Container with Internal Threads in Lid, (Video) 2024
Просмотров 350Месяц назад
I make a smaller lidded container with threading like previous videos but with internal threading on the lid this time. This video is also not time lapsed for those who might like to see the real time speeds. I use a cut off from my first threads videos project (stringy stuff that likes to chip out). I use 3 coats of tru-oil for finish.

After a few more tweeks to the threading Jig to make it thread more concentric, I Make another Threaded Container with Canarywood. With some lucky knot locations it ends up with a rather Derpy looking Face. Finished with a couple coats of Wipe on Polyurethane.
Thread Jig and First Wood Threads
Просмотров 4002 месяца назад
I put together a Jig to allow me to cut Threads into wood. Then try it out for the first time. Learning as I go, I'm pretty happy with the results being my first attempt. I'm not 100% on the Wood, it was kinda stringy and chipped out easy so I found myself reaching for thin CA glue to re-enforce the thread locations. I finished it with Tru-Oil. Added a O-ring and call it a win. Will see what ha...
Decorative Flower Table Light 2024
Просмотров 3092 месяца назад
I make a decorative table light in this video. I started the Vase part back in October of 2022, Even got as far as making a top, but I wasn't quite happy with it, so I put the project on hold. This year I put a piece of Cherry on the lathe not really knowing what I was making. Turns out it was the last part for this light.

I just wasted 15 minutes. Would have been nice if he told us what he was doing, give us some dimensions, etc.
Didn't use plans. Go check out ruclips.net/video/zIaP9XLdco0/видео.html I watched his video and made one myself with out plans. Use the scroll feature so you don't "Waste" time. Thanks for your comment.

Calling everything a dulcimer is getting out of hand. What you’ve made here is plainly in the violin family-it looks a lot like a viel-with four strings (it’s allowed, but viels usually have only three). The oldest viel bodies and necks were carved out of a single block of wood. We have glues and standard sized veneers now to lighten the structure and get more sound and volume out of it. It’s fair to say that dulcimers in general are lap instruments (although many modern , electrified dulcimer-players hold it differently). They are often tuned with a drone-string which is sometimes doubled. And they are therefore seldom played with a bow.
"....a purpose-built dulcimer designed around bow playing. The purpose-designed instrument is described as resembling a hybrid between a dulcimer and a cello or viola da gamba." But yes I would agree violin family.
Thank you for this great video!. You really demystify and simplify the building and using of the Thread jig! Who is your supplier of the X-Y ''tray'' and Thread bit? At what speed did you run the Thread bit on your lathe? Thanks in advance and continue to creating innovative video.
I wouldn't b showing off the close up looked like U made threads with a crack edds teeth hopefully it was time enjoyed coz was long time fukin about for primary school results
I got the x-y vise from the "offshore" tool store Harbor freight. But any X-Y vise would do the trick. If you end up picking up a cheap one as I did, you might have to go over it and clean it up a bit. I had to spend an hour or 2 cleaning it up and removing paint from surfaces that shouldn't have been painted to get it to operate more smoothly. As far as the Thread cutting Bit, In my case it was 3/8 shank, 3/4" Diameter, 3/16" Wide 60° Double Angle Cutter that was High Speed Steel. Main thing is that it will fit into what Collets you want to use. I was running the cutter at about 1300 RPM for this project. It's really about finding a good feed and speed balance when cutting to minimize chatter. Appreciate you taking time to comment! Let me know if you have any other questions.
It's wood, tear out was expected. Given how stringy the wood was I'm surprised they looked as good as they did given they were also end grain. Its a learning experiences and for the first wooded threads I've cut I think they turned out well. They catch and thread smoothly even with the tear out and do the job they are supposed to holding the lid on.
Beautiful work congratulations, greetings from Argentina 👍👍👍
Appreciate it! Saludos para ti
Ganhei do filho graças as suas aulas !!!
Bom!
I like that design, very nice.
Thank you!
Ronys2. Love it~ well traveler,
that's one of the nicest board I have seen. The problem is you created some of the ugliest pieces for it. Maybe a vid of you creating wood pieces for it?
Plan on carving a set in the future. Keeps options open for future gifts :)
You get a thumbs up for the video and the sweatshirt. Oohrah
Much Appreciated! Semper fi!
Just curious, how long did it take you to sand those? What grit did you start at?
Sanding went fairly quick, I sand while they are still on the lathe with power. I start with 80 grit, and work my way through 120, 220, and stop with 320. You can catch me sanding them just after putting in the burn marks in the video at 1:52 mark. Hope this helps!
I have to admit, I've seen a lot of woodturning videos but never have I seen a drill press used to turn spheres. What a Fantastic idea and great for production work. Great video. Thanks for posting.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and were able to find something new!
Neat project, thanks for sharing. Full View and Like 👍
Thanks, appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Really nice project but the sped up video makes it difficult to actually see what action you are doing
Thanks, perhaps turning the play back speed down would help with catching some of the parts that are too quick? There is also another video I made of just about the same thing but with out the holes in the center.
Thanks Rony I'll have a look & I'll do that. Cheers
Sağol Usta 🙌
Usta hahaha, Nazik sözleriniz için teşekkürler.
This is marvelous as is the build. Where did you get the dimensions? What are you using for strings?
I took the scale length and bridge height for a 4/4 Cello and kinda just ran with that. There weren't any "plans" per say just an Idea. I had built 2 dulcimers previously so I used the construction I used for those and mixed in what I saw more traditional cellos had. I calculated the "f holes" (sound hole) size requirements with Helmholtz Resonator formula, you can find calculators online to help with that also. Still using D'Addario's Prelude Cello Strings. Appreciate your comment!
Thank you that is very helpful@@Ronys2YT
Muito acelerado...
Fue uno de mis primeros videos, disculpas por la velocidad. ¡Gracias por vernos!
my illiterate brain saw the word doomed when reading the thumbnail 😛
My brain kept double checking to make sure I didn't add an extra O many times lol!
Looks good - no, strike that. Looks great ! Wood flowers ? or dried & dyed ? Take care. -Mike
Real flowers that were dyed and preserved black by some method (some sort of wax the plant draws up while still growing). Although they have lost some color over the years. Appreciate you taking the time to check it out and even comment. Take care yourself as well.
@@Ronys2YT 👍😎
this is so cute and cool, awesome work
Thank you!
How many do you want
lol
YT recommended this to me. I don't know why, but it's just amazing. Great work!
Thank you!
Would it be optimal to use a smaller circumference for more speed? With greater support structure ofcourse
A smaller circumference track would increase the speed shortening the track, and Yes more support would be needed lol
How heavy are they
The larger diameter ones are about 65 grams each, the small ones are right around 25 grams.
💯👍🤝
Thanks
This will blow up
I don’t know why this got recommended to me but that’s a cool little bridge you made. 👍
Thanks! Appreciate you checking it out :)
❤❤❤
Very nice although if not mistaken there was an open fire to warm which was a good effect so a chimney would have been a nice addition
Fair point. Suppose It will have to be a lantern then.
@@Ronys2YT ⭐
Nice job! Sounds pretty nice. What are you using for strings?
Thank you. I've been using D'Addario's Prelude Cello Strings, the are a student medium tension string. It sounds much better these days than when I made the Video, having more time to practice.
Красиво и познавательно. Так держать.
Спасибо
Thanks
Thanks
Form’s are right on,Steam is escaping out the wrong end of the steamer. Steam needs to rise at other end to be more efficient.
Appreciate the input.
What is the finish you use?
Birchwood Casey: Tru-Oil
like agonists to slaughter 😣😞
Pretty cool 😎👌
Thanks!

Ah yes the wood golem, jokes aside god DAMN that looks nice
Wood listen to your jokes all day. Thanks!
Rip
What was the finish you applied?? Love that yesteryear look Awesome
Thanks, I used "Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil", 3 coats on these. It's a Gun Stock finish, dry time is fairly short 4-6 hrs and allows multiple coats in one day if wanted.
What is this.. Where it used
Christmas Tree Decoration.
Great video, the shelf looks Amazing! thanks for the shoutout!
Thank you for the inspiration and all the knowledge your passing along!
