      We recommend 4x3 steel downspout for cosmetic reasons. See other videos on our channel for wider views (especially system components part II). It fits snuggly in the sleek transition. All ends of this fitting our female, so 4" schedule 40 PVC for the other ends.

    Radon in your soil which is everywhere does not have enough radiation to decrease your normal life expectancy. The radiation is not lethal. This is a waste of money. The US used to make flatware with radon. The sun emits more radiation that will harm you more than radon.

    Do yourself a favor and add a rain bypass for the motor.

    • @brentulbert
      @brentulbert 14 дней назад

      Not in the attic. Most condensate bypasses leak water out the sides which would cause severe mold issues. The ones that go "around" the fan often freeze up. However, condensate bypasses are recommended for traditional systems with fan placements outdoors. More info on our site.

    First comment/ question, and it is probably a stupid one at that lol. Ok, so i remember learning some stuff on radon when i was young. Is radon a gas or a radiation? Can radon cause bad health issues? (If so, what are we talking about in regards of types of health problems? Lung and breathing issues? Cancer?) Is it garuenteed the house will have radon if the basement is dirt floor and old stone wall foundation? (Like i remeber hearing even concrete basements can have radon if a crack forms in the cement pad in the cellar) Thanks ahead of time and appreciate any info 👍. Interesting video btw.

    I moved into my house and got a radon test done. Long story short they installed a radon mitigation system connecting to my sump pump and sealing it. Since then I noticed a ton of water pouring into my sump pump pit. My pump would run every 1 to 3 min. Today I got curios if I could raise the float switch to try to balance out the water level or make it so it didn't run so often. The radon installers cut a 3" hole in the lid and silicone a clear plexiglass piece over it. I removed that cover to watch the float switch. 5 min went by and still it wouldn't pump. Eventually by shear luck I noticed that as that hole got smaller water started running fast into the pump. I then covered the hole again and the water was gushing in.. then lifted it up and the water stopped. It's now been 20 min and my pump hasn't ran, Why is the radon system sucking water into my sump pump pit? When I remove this little sight glass the u shaped device showing suction still shows a negative suction. Is this OK to leave it like this? With the cover off? I don't want my pumps running so often especially if it's not needed. I have since resealed the put cover till I know more. Any advice would help.

    • @brentulbert
      @brentulbert Год назад

      Brent with PDS here: I've not heard of this situation before. Most radon fans can create 1-3" of water suction (compared to a shop vac which is 30"+; it's relatively little). I would recommend having your system serviced by a sump professional or calling the radon mitigator that installed your system to inspect it. There's a chance the radon fan is drawing water in that was trapped somewhere in your interior drain, but that would mean it was installed improperly, as it should drain to the sump pit naturally. Perhaps the radon fan is pulling a valve or float up and that is causing the pump to malfunction. Strange situation, get a pro out there.

    PVC pipe above the fan would be a better choice rather than thin metal. That thin gutter pipe is going to make a lot of vibration noise.

    • @brentulbert
      @brentulbert 3 месяца назад

      Noise has a lot of factors. To each their own. Both methods are acceptable. In this instance, we're using the vibration/noise tested KTA fan. Our fan is tested for noise variations TWICE. As far as I know, the only radon fan that is sound checked in that manner. We prefer the cosmetic appeal of downspout.

    • @radonpds

      Not on single family homes. Most SW states do not, which is what makes our product so valuable! We took a home with no gravel adn no vapor barrier from 20 pCi/L down to less than 2 with a single small radon fan!

      There's no "good" number. We have a longer video on this channel describing more. There are "bad" numbers. Zero or even is "bad". The maximum suction for your fan is also bad (see your fan make/model curve at a manufacturer's website). More info @ www.RadonMat.com We do free takeoffs and designs. You want the T risers spread out evenly, one 4" riser every 2,000 sq ft. Ideally they'd exhaust straight up through the entire building/roof with no elbows. For that reason, wall chaises are ideal locations.

    My installer attached one outside and the rain washed it out; I'm installing a new one, how can I make it weather resistant?

    • @brentulbert
      @brentulbert 3 года назад

      The Dwyer Mark II is a more weather resistant manometer. We recommend using that for all outdoor installations. The U tube can go anywhere on the suction side so if there's room on pipe inside, place the U tube there. As a last resort you can build a small "roof" above the U tube using schedule 40 PVC cut in a semi circle shape and affixed to the pipe. However, bugs can still get in and the liquid can still dry out. Lastly, a magnahelic pressure gauge is more permanently weather resistant, but the most expensive of the pressure gauges.

    • @Powertuber1000
      @Powertuber1000 3 года назад

      @@brentulbert THANKS, I also thought of just setting a tire valve stem cap on top of the exposed tube.

      Blue gage oil. Available on our website. Don't hesitate to call with questions!

  • @brentulbert
    @brentulbert 4 года назад

    A higher U tube reading, means MORE suction (resistance in inches of water column pressure) and LESS airflow. A "good" U tube reading is above zero but less than the fan's capacity. Typically 1" or less means great airflow. Familiarize yourself with Radon Fan curves here: radonpds.com/how-to-articles/

  • @budl5328

    Is there no need for vapor barrier on top of the soil mat to extend pressure field?

    • @radonpds
      @radonpds 4 года назад

      Great question! That would help with PFE, but under most radon codes it is not a requirement. It will not hinder the gas mat either way; however, if it is not required by the GC, then you do not have to put down any vapor barrier. Always check with the engineer or GC on the project. In Colorado, most single family homes don't utilize a vapor barrier, while out east, many do. IL and MN both require it no matter what. Thanks for the question!

    Any concerns with water pooling at bottom end of intake pipe causing decreased air flow? And if so how to know? (Yes, we have a sump well that goes four feet below basement grade). Thanks for comments

    • @radonpds
      @radonpds 6 лет назад

      Hello Joe, thanks for watching! If your sump is sealed properly, functioning properly, and has a one way valve (like a dranjer fitting) then it should function as intended. If water is pooling in the system, then your KTA meter would drop to the left into the red indicating a decrease in airflow. If you're unsure if your system is functioning properly, give us a call and we can help troubleshoot or get you in touch with a certified mitigator in your area.
