    Question, what does getting rid of the idle air control and the cold start idle valve do?

    • @_chrisbtw
      @_chrisbtw Месяц назад

      Not much other than declutter the engine bay. There was a lot of useless emissions equipment in the 80s.

      If you're talking about the Air Regulator Valve, it's used on cold start to allow fast idle conditions on startup. The car may be difficult to start without it, and you'd have to get a standalone ECU to compensate.

    what's your cold air intake filter setup?

    • @_chrisbtw
      @_chrisbtw Месяц назад

      Custom. Ripped out the stock air box, and stuck on a Spectre cone filter from O'Reilly's.

    That is not the egr. The egr is attached to the side of the intake manifold. That is the air injection valve.

    awesome video man! Just picked up my first na z31 yesterday and it has been sitting for 8 years. Currently in the process of cleaning up the fuel system and tank and replacing sending unit and possibly fuel pump. Was looking for everything i could get rid of on the car and this video helps a lot. One thing I did want to ask about was if i deleted the egr, all unnecessary vacuum lines, vacuum pump, ac, iac and converted to a electric fan would i need my ecu tuned for all of these possible deletes. This is the first time i have dealt with something this old so I am not super versed in the system. I have worked with a lot of new stuff and usually if you change anything on 2010 and up cars you usually have to get it tuned due to the computers.

      On these cars you can’t really tune the ECU, you either have to get a stand alone or another ECU, you’re going to have idle issues for sure when you go and turn it on so you’ll have to crack the throttle body open a bit to keep it idling,

    • @_chrisbtw
      @_chrisbtw 3 месяца назад

      What he said... You can do those deletes with no issue. Except for the Idle Control. For that you need to adjust the idle through the throttle body, but not hard at all. Don't worry about the ECU until you get to swapping major internals like a bigger turbo. You can remove the cruise control too if you're going to remove the vacuum pump. Frees up a good amount of space

      @@_chrisbtw @jef6404 Awesome, i really appreciate the help and makes understanding the car a lot more easier! Will definitely be looking into getting rid of cruise control because i hear the more space I can make the better! Y'all rock and thanks for the videos Chris!

    finally someone who also has a Nissan z31 😭 they really do mean it when they say the z31 is the forgotten Nissan, it's pretty hard to find parts directly for a z31 and I've been looking for a short throw shifter but I don't know if there are like universal short shifters.

      z31 na transmitions are all the same ones in the s13. so you can get an s13 short throw and itll prob bolt on just fine from what iv seen. the z31 shares a surprisingly large amount of parts with the s chassis

      yo thanks man, i apricate the help, by any chance would you know how to replace the master and slave cylinder, or where i can find them in the engine bay that would be helpful@@zaku_tc8199

    • @_chrisbtw
      @_chrisbtw 3 месяца назад

      Master is under the washer fluid reservoir, and the slave is attached to the trans basically right under the passenger seat. You can see it if you lay down. Super easy to replace. The annoying part is flushing/refilling the fluid, but still a simple process. Good luck.
