      You create a VLAN interface with IP address for each subnet, and then attach rule-set to it. Each VLAN interface can have multiple physical ports associated to it. Or, you can attach an IP to the physical port, and then attach a rule-set to it.

    • @wizsc
      @wizsc 21 день назад

      Thank you sir for yout time. So the method does not really matter after all then, but what rules and port configuration we choose, right? I am not going to need different subnetworks connected to one ethernet port, that means I do not need… its called a trunk port? So what I can do, because all subnetworks will use different ethernet ports, I can just confogure them so that they have different IP, like this: Lan0: isp, dhcp Lan1: 10.10.10.1 Lan2: 10.10.20.1 That would make my „vlans”? Actually they would be not that virtual actually I guess, becasue they would be actually physical subnetworks? Then I just need set of rules for my networks to communicate in a way I need them? - OR - I do actually need to declare them vlans, so that system may understand that they need to communicate, so they must be vlans to set the rules?

    Would you know, please, if your Cisco router sends/receives any data through the failover WAN while using primary WAN? I am using metric cellular data plan for my failover WAN. My current non-Cisco router continuously sends and receives small amounts of data via failover WAN (I assume pings) and therefore unnecessarily consumes my data plan. Can a Cisco router be so configured, that the failover WAN is in complete standby mode and no data at all will be sent/received unless primary WAN failure?

    • @ITSolutionsNetwork
      @ITSolutionsNetwork Месяц назад

      No. Both, default ethernet with IP address and switch interface are considered separate layer 3 interfaces. Normally, you can't have the same subnet IP address on two different Layer 3 interface within the same routing table. The only way to do that on routers is if the router support Virtual Routing and Forwarding, and use a different VRF for either switch or default interface.

    The adoption process is by far the most frustrating. As you mentioned, you can't simply use the DHCP option to point to the network application. WiFi Man is also useless. I've been at it for hours now with the UniFi iOS app and it still tells me that internet is not detected. Going into advanced settings is also useless because it refuses to load the input forms. Unless I can find some way to SSH into the box, there's no hope of using this thing beyond a fancy paperweight.

      There is a way, and also depends on the VPN config. If the remote site has only one ISP, the local configuration can get a little ugly, but it’s doable. It’s easier if you do route-based VPN instead of policy- based routing, and then do a routing on the top of it.

      I couldn't find any LAN aggregation like LACP, maybe because the interfaces are 2.5G, kind of enough for the most cases. As for the separate LANs. It's called Networks here: I have created Multiple Networks like Users, VoIP, Guests, IoT, and Legacy LAN. Watch from 06:25 Networks Then you can place each network into a profile, and add/remove tagging, making profile access port or trunk, then you can assign this profile to a port making the port a gateway for the subnet from that network.

    I always thought that using and memorizing hundreds of IOS arbitrary commands to configure Cisco routers/switches was the stupidest and most moronic thing ever, and I still think so. Why would techs have to memorize all this garbage instead of using GUI interfaces in the 21st century? there is plenty of memory and bandwidth nowadays. IOS commands are prone to mistakes or you might forget a configuration parameter or whatever even for simple tasks, let alone complex setups. I cannot understand why the fuck do people still need to memorize all that crap instead of just clicking check boxes and inputting parameters in a nicely designed GUI interface all the time. I know Cisco routers have GUI interface programmability, but why do they still require techs to learn all those stupid commands? Is it just to make them feel smart by memorizing a bunch of crap, or to make them exercise their memory, or to make them waste half their life, or what?

    • @ITSolutionsNetwork
      @ITSolutionsNetwork 5 месяцев назад

      I totally get where you're coming from, and it's a valid point. Using the CLI over a GUI can seem a bit old-school, but there are some pretty solid benefits to it, at least to me. Precision and Control: The CLI allows for more granular control over the configuration. It's like having a detailed map instead of just the main roads. You can tweak and adjust settings to a very precise level, something that's often harder to achieve with a GUI, and GUI with every settings in it can be very overwhelming to even look at it. Speed: Once you get the hang of it, CLI can be much faster. It's like knowing the keyboard shortcuts instead of navigating through menus. For tasks that need to be repeated or automated, CLI commands are a lifesaver. There is no GUI faster than CLI. Scripting and Automation: CLI commands can be scripted and automated, making repetitive tasks or large-scale deployments much easier. It's about working smarter, not harder. Even for a small tasks, you can copy/modify/paste config via CLI, which I usually even do for EdgeRouters or Mikrotik, even though they have pretty usable GUI. Consistency: The CLI is a common language across many devices and vendors. Once you learn it, you can navigate various systems with ease, unlike GUIs which can differ significantly from one platform to another. While GUIs are definitely user-friendly and visually intuitive, the CLI remains a powerful tool for those who need that extra level of interaction with their devices. It's not so much about memorizing commands as it is about understanding the language of your network. And don't worry, even the most seasoned pros use help commands and google; it's all part of the process. Hope that helps clarify why the CLI still has its place in the tech world!
