What Does a Homeschooled Kindergartner Do in a Day?
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.2 месяца назад
This is a typical day in the life for our family. It’s a pretty slow and relaxing day. Sometimes we use our mornings to run errands. Or we’ll take walks, or go to the park, or have play dates . Homeschool leaves lots of room for free time to do things. But this is an idea of what most days look like for us. Thanks for watching!

In this video, I share my kindergartener's homeschool room. Before we moved into this house, we had a smaller space and we used our kitchen table next to the storage rolling cart that carried the curriculum and few supplies needed and that worked just perfectly! But now we have this room we can use for homeschooling and this is how it is set up so far. I hope you enjoy the video!

1st grade homeschool curriculum picks
Love these flip throughs! Thank you.
I started using this planner in May. I absolutely love it. The curriculum trackers are my favorite for my kids individual subjects that are more workbook based like grammar, math, phonics stuff. It’s helpful to see where we are in the book. My husband is getting me a sticker printer doc to use for the monthly reflections and our book of firsts!
@intentionallymade What is a sticker printer doc? It sounds interesting. Might be something I need! 😆
@@marlah.7511they are little printers that can print sticker photos from phone. Canon ivy is one brand. Kodak and HP also make one. :)
@@marlah.7511 they are little mobile printers. Canon ivy is one of them.
Love this! Can you please link the stickers?!!
@@gabrielleporras3400 of course! 🤗a.co/d/0akwR50j
@@homeschoolingboymom Thanks for the link. Those stickers make me want to purchase this planner. 😂 Love how you have set up your planner, especially the vision page for your son. 😊
@@marlah.7511😂 those stickers are seriously so cute and I love the colors. Thank you! I had fun making that page 😁
I planned to use large index cards over the curriculum Trackers and plan for holidays or fun special days that I would like to do something for like Pi day and Hobbit day or real holidays like Easter or birthdays...
I loved this breakdown of them both. I have an incoming kindergartener this year and this Growing with Grammar level 1 seems a tad advanced for first grade imo. I also have older children as well and I know this would have been way too much for them, especially in the writing mechanics department. It almost seems like it would be great to do First Language Lessons 1st since the oral dialogue seems so age appropriate and then to go in to GWG after for more written review. Of course I’m totally thinking aloud for my own fam haha but I loved seeing a look into both of them.
Thanks for sharing! Yea I think I have a preference for the “first language lessons” for a reason 😆 she really knows what children that age can handle and she keeps it very simple. can’t wait to use it and see how it goes!
The curriculum tracker was my favorite part, lol. In each section I put the curriculum we used (e.g RightStart Math) and would use a different highliter for each curriculum to fill in the day we did the curriculum. This essentially allowed me to see how much or how little we were using certain programs so I knew what to stick with and what either didn’t work or what we could revisit the next year.
Your kindergarten was already on level 4 in AAR? New subscriber ❤
Thanks for subscribing! And yes, he soared with reading from a young age! I wish he was that way with math but I’ll take it! 😆
@@homeschoolingboymom have you tried math u see or math with confidence?
@@cyn8733I haven’t! Do you recommend those??
@yesii921 I did K math with confidence now my little one is doing Math with confidence 1 and I'm going to also supplement with Math U See alpha. Math with confidence is spiral, and MUS is mastery. So it will be a nice compliment. My daughter is young (4)... really advanced, and in AAR, she will be starting level 2 next week. Sonlight for science. Beautiful feet books all around the world for language arts/ social studies.
I responded with my other RUclips account in accident but it’s still me lol. Thanks for the suggestions! That helps so much!
Thanks for sharing. I recently started homeschooling my son so this is quite useful for me
How exciting! Glad this was helpful. Hope you guys have a lovely year 🤗
You could use the curriculum progress pages to track what books of the Bible your son listens to and fill in the squares for each of the chapters he's finished.
🤯 I genuinely didn’t think of that and I like it!!! 👏👏
Ooo vision board that’s a cool idea for those blank pages!
I just got this exact planner and am also unsure of how i'll use the curriculum tracker pages. I'll check back here in a few days to see if anyone else comments with ideas. 😅I liked that you showed a few variations of how you use it. Thanks!
Love this schedule....I call my youngest (3 years old) my baby too 😅
Haha yes that’s true they will always be the baby of the family 🥰
Our younger two are 5 & 7 and we still call them "the babies" lol. The older three are 11, 12, and 13
Love this flip through! What’s the last year in the history timeline notebook? Couldn’t see if it goes up to as recently as 2023? Thanks!
Thank you! It goes up to 2099! So it will definitely last them for many years if they want! 😆
Great video! 🥰 We started First Language Lessons Level 1 a few weeks ago and my daughter absolutely loves it! She specifically loves the poetry memorization - she walks around reciting “The Caterpillar” to anyone who will listen to her…even our dogs 😂
That’s great! I’m so excited to use it for the first time! I hope my son enjoys it too 🤗
Great ideas. My kids mail letters in summer to family an friends, or we will make cards and drop off at nursing homes. They do it much easier than books lol
Love that!
Did you also do All About Reading levels 1 and 2?
He started with level 2 when he did the placement test so we weren’t able to try out level 1. Before that, we were using A Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading and we loved that. It’s way more simple than all about reading but it did the job 👌🏼 the only reason we stopped and switched over was because our charter school didn’t approve of that book as a curriculum. But we would’ve just stuck with that if we could!
@@homeschoolingboymom oh okay. We are starting to look at reading curriculums and I am having a very difficult time trying to decide on which one to use.
@@RikinaR. if your child is eager to learn to read or a fast learner, the parent guide book would work great and it’s way cheaper. The all about reading is good for kids who want to play games and who need more practice (they include lots of practice pages and readers and flashcards and games). It’s more pricey but worth the price if it fits your child’s needs 😁 hope that helps! I know how overwhelming it could be to choose. There’s plenty of other programs out there! 🤯 these two I’ve mentioned are the only ones we’ve used
@@homeschoolingboymom yes, all the extras with All About Reading looks like a lot. I just worry about gaps if we don’t use all about reading because so many people recommend it. And it blows my mind that there are free reading curriculums and that some are so expensive.
Wow his reading is so good. Very advanced. How did you teach him.
I was thinking of doing a video about it because it’s a few things! I would say mostly it was him who had the interest and then I really loved the Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading book. He started going through that book when he turned 4. Thank you for your comment. I’ll try to get that video up soon ☺️
I am now super interested in WTM's First Language Lessons, which I'll likely pair w Elemental Phonics Level 3. The LA curriculum I had picked out for my future 1st grader seemed wayyyy too much and I was looking for something simpler.
I know what you mean! There’s so much to language arts and I didn’t want something that will take up too much time considering the other elements of LA he’ll be learning! I have high hopes for this resource. So glad you found this video helpful 🙏🏼🤗
Sounds like it will be a fun summer! ☺️
Thank you! I’ve seen your videos before! They’re lovely. Thanks for leaving that sweet comment 😁 are you going to share your summer plans in a coming video?
What is the science curriculum you are using? It looks like something my daughter would enjoy!
It’s called Elemental Science and we used the “Intro to Science” for Kindergarten! I have a review of this curriculum if you want to check that out on my channel. They just released a new edition where they don’t have you purchase the book where you find the experiments, they include the experiments in the teachers guide now, which will be a lot better! Here’s the link: elementalscience.com/products/intro-to-science-printed-combo-3rd
Should be in real school - no parents are professional teachers and they don’t learn how to /get to socialize with the world.
My kindergartener is reading at a 4th grade level. I think I’m doing pretty okay teaching him! 😄 I’ve done lots of research and planning before making the decision to homeschool. You’re welcome to do the same and if you choose to put your kids in public school, that’s ok. I’m not forcing my decision on any other parents. I’m hoping others can do the same for me.
@@homeschoolingboymom You’re so dumb. It’s shameful to have your kids be taught by you.
Such an ignorant comment. The myth of the unsocialized homeschooler is so outdated and hilarious. Just stop. Please.
Loved watching ❤
Wow his reading is amazing! How old is he? Great job mom, I have 2 boys and 1 girl and starting homeschooling
How exciting that you’re starting homeschooling! 🎉 are you starting this coming school year? My son is 6! And he always had a love of reading since he was born lol so I just ran with it! 😅 thank you so much for your kind words!
@@homeschoolingboymom that's amazing! Well I started this year with prek it was very basic and we did a once a week co op but I'm not sure why but I feel like we're really starting with kinder.. :)
@@julialee143 I get what you mean! I felt that way too. I love that fresh start feeling of a new school year. Looking forward to closing this year up soon and enjoying summer break!
I love how you integrate home education with the realistic nature of everyday life. I'm a homeschool alumni and I know my mom quickly learned that being flexible is best. You don't have to do every subject everyday. Play outside when it's nice, there are so many moments to learn in and there's plenty of time to sit down to the books. It seems like you have a great curriculum and schedule for when you do 😊Such wonderful children you have and they are blessed to have you for a Mom ❤
That was such a lovely comment! Thank you so much for your input as a homeschool student yourself! I still feel fairly new to homeschooling because this was my son’s second year. So I’m no pro. But I try to share what’s worked for us so far and I’m glad to hear your experience and to see that a lot of us are doing things similarly 🤗
This is super helpful!! It totally makes sense to alternate math and reading at this age because I find that it’s time consuming to go between the subjects and their attention spans just don’t allow for that. Thank you for all the ideas!!
Glad it was helpful! 🤗
I like how you keep things real as far as what a typical day looks like for y’all. ❤
Thank you! We keep it pretty simple! 😅
We are doing 1st grade AAR level 1 ❤ We really like it
🙌🏽😁
I wish Elemental Science got more love and recognition! I'm a big fan of their Classical Science line!
Right? I think we’re going to stick with their classical series too 🤗
@@homeschoolingboymom That's great! I hope you continue to make videos on them! I've considered making some flip throughs/reviews/do a lesson with us videos but I wouldn't even know where to begin😂
@@elisabeth... oh please do! I would love that! It helps to see how other families do it. I’m sure many others would benefit too 😁
My 2nd child is a boy and I have only nephews 5 and under, no nieces, and outdoor/playtime for boys is absolutely the best choice for them over "morning baskets". The boys gotta get their wiggles out! Even my daughter has a difficult time doing sit-down bible time in the mornings, which is why I've removed her from early morning bible class at church. We instead listen to bible songs and dance before Sunday service. I'm pretty convinced that morning baskets are for older kids, as it's just not working for my family or my siblings' families.
Thanks for sharing that! 😅 and I like that you added it may work for older kids. Makes me want to try it again but when he’s a bit older and has a longer attention span. Because I do like the idea of it! But I’m glad I’m glad I listened to my gut and didn’t force it. And for other kids his age who enjoy morning basket.. that’s amazing! 😁
Did you have the placement test for all about reading LA?
You can find the placement test on their website. Here’s the link! www.allaboutlearningpress.com/reading-placement
Would you mind sharing where you got that cart? I really love how the bottom layers hold bigger books!

@@homeschoolingboymom Thank you so much!!!
We are using a lot of the same things for my son’s upcoming kindergarten year! I’d love to hear how you schedule everything!
I’ll do a video for you! 😉😁 Thanks for watching! I hope your school year goes well
Some great resources. IMO this is a lot for first grade😮 I hope y’all have an amazing year, and enjoy yourselves along the journey. ❤ you’ll find the things that work for you, and just pass along the rest that doesn’t 😍
This is more than we did for kindergarten and I’m a little nervous about it! But I’m going to try to be flexible and if it’s too much, I’ll see what I can take out and not force it. We’ll see how it goes 😅 Thank you for your kind words!
We really like Elemental Science products
