Late Season Aurora - Iceland - April 23rd, 2023
Late Season Aurora.
On April 21st, a M1.7 solar flare released an asymmetrical full halo coronal mass ejection (CME) which impacted our planet on April 23rd. A severe G4 geomagnetic storm (Kp8) was detected at 23:34 UTC and produced spectacular Auroras during the night. The northern lights have been spotted all over Canada and the US, as far south as California, Arizona and Texas panhandle.
Here in Iceland the sky is getting brighter and brighter every night, since we're approaching the summer solstice. The Aurora season is basically over, but that night we were able to enjoy one last beautiful show for this season, with these beautiful purple pillars dancing in the sky for almost an hour....

Eruption Strongly Decreased - Fagradalsfjall, Iceland - 19.08.2022
Просмотров 2982 года назад
The eruptive activity has decreased considerably during the last few days. Yesterday 19/08, just two small vents were active inside the cinder cone's crater. At the same time the volcanic tremor has gradually and constantly decreased as well. Today 20/08 the visible activity dropped even more, and at the moment it looks like there is no glowing lava inside of the crater while the volcanic tremo...
IT'S VOLCANO MADNESS - Huge crowd at Fagradalsfjall - 2022 Eruption in Iceland - day 8 & 9

After 3 days when the eruption site has been closed due to bad weather, on August 10th the area has been finally reopened. Thousands of people flocked to Meradalir to attend the Festival, while the volcano was showing the highest lava fountains since the beginning of the eruption. Also, I managed to record several minutes of clean sound of the eruption, so... Headphones on! Shot on August 10th ...

Fagradalsfjall - NEW ERUPTION - 2022 - Day 1
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 года назад
Yesterday, around lunch time, after 4 days with more than 10,000 earthquakes, a new eruption started at Fagradalsfjall. A 500 meters long fissure opened up in the northwestern part of Meradalir, with a line of lava fountains and a lava pond developing at the bottom of the valley. The area is not as easy accessible as last year, the hike requires a hour more and the terrain is pretty difficult. ...

Spattering on Lava Pond • Iceland Eruption - Fagradalsfjall

A video with few clips I shot yesterday in Geldingadalir during the amazing show the volcano gave to those who went for a visit there. As mentioned in my previous post, a lava pond started forming yesterday, a few hours after the eruptive activity resumed. Spattering spots have been observed on the pond surface. Those were not new vents, but they formed because lava flowing inside previuosly fo...

The video I shot this morning right after lava overflowed the western dam in Syðri-Meradalur and started flowing in Nátthagi. The lava flow on the slope was well-channelized and it was flowing really fast before reching the bottom of the valley. © Marco Di Marco / Volcano Chaser

The video I shot this morning at the eruption site. It is split in three parts: - the first one is a video of a big collapse of the inner wall of the cinder cone followed by a pretty strong lava fountaining episode. - the second one is close-up footage of a slow moving lava flow produced by an ephemeral vent on the western side of the lava field in Nafnlausi Dalurinn (The Valley with No Name). ...

The video I shot today, about the construction of a dam/wall to prevent lava flowing in Nátthagi. If it does, then it might become a threat for the road 427, Suðurstrandarvegur, and for a buried fiber optic cable line. The construction should be completed by the end of the weekend. I interviewed Ari Guðmundsson of Verkís, the company that is taking care of this project. He is a Civil Engineer a...

It looks like the lava will reach the road and the sea. Regardless, it would be good to do some experimenting on this flow to see how others could be stopped. For what it is worth, I came up with an idea to redirect lava flows by setting off explosions in the lava flow and, at the same time, spraying water on the point of explosion. The explosion would send fresh hot lava into the air and the water being sprayed on it will cause a further explosion as it hits the hot exposed lava, creating a major cooling effect so that the hardened lava chunks can form a massive enough pile to act as a dam. I made a video on an earlier version of this idea. I expounded the new idea with more detail in a comment below that video (pinned to the top). You can find the video by googling "redirecting lava flows friar roderic" Let me know what you think. Stay safe.

Thank you very interesting to see one this regular episode with an another angle. Lava emission decrease but not sop because with webcams we have the impression the flow is interrupted. So during the phase of calm the magma is enough high in the vent to sustained lava flow ? The intensity can be compare with the foutaining of the SE crater of Mt Etna ?Thanks so lot for sharing,
