The monitoring network of Quintana Roo has detected a 5,000 km2 blob floating towards the Mexican Caribbean. It should reach its beaches around the end of MAY. This will be most likely the beginning of the peak of Sargasso season.
Should you avoid Cancun? Even tho there are regular morning cleanups the beaches don't look good but you can still enjoy your holiday in the resort. It won't be as picturesque but definitely worth it and cheaper as it's low season.
